S4E16 Nothing as it Seems

Nothing is as it seems this week because it’s just the two of us – no special guest! We discuss the return of Porcupine Man from “The Transformation” and how we feel about how he is handled. We agree that it isn’t necessarily a highlight episode and we point to a scene especially that seems a bit contrived. We also voice some frustrations about the leaps in logic that this episode makes, but don’t worry, this is still Fringe, though, so we definitely also have plenty of good things to say!

SILY 668- Disorganized Progress

Who do you think of when you think of a highly organized person? Perhaps you’re like me and think of a TV or movie character like Monica Geller or Claire Dunphy. You know who doesn’t come to mind? ME! For today’s story let’s jump into the time machine and go back to the early days of my career at the bookstore.

SILY 667- Failure to Communicate

George Bernard Shaw said, “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” Communication is tricky. On one hand, we are all communicating something, verbal or non-verbal at all times. On the other hand, I think most of us have significant room to grow in this area. I think most communication issues arise not from things said, but from things unsaid.

S4E15 A Short Story About Love

We hope that you have fearless… auditory passages (?) because we are here to share a short story about love along with frequent feedbacker Eric (or Eric from Pennsylvania as you’d prefer). This was such a fun episode to record especially since we love some aspects of this episode and not so much others. We love that we get some counterbalancing feedback from Geoff (xforce11) as well as some feedback from Rory, Anna (not Torv), Erin, ShelkyBean, and Patty from Canadia!

SILY 666- Old Testament Laws Explained

For most of us, reading the Old Testament is not fun. All of those names and laws are difficult to read and are the reason many who have tried reading the Bible from cover to cover often fail once they get to Leviticus. Those books do serve a purpose, though, and today we’ll explore that. It’s a bit of a deep dive, but because the laws are so misunderstood by today’s culture, it’s important we take the time to explore this fully.

Visions of the Future

What happens when ordinary people are granted extraordinary glimpses into the darkest corners of reality? Both “The Purple Testament” and “What’s in the Box” explore the terrifying burden of unwanted knowledge.

You Can Call Her Caroline Review and Breakdown

You Can Call Her Caroline Review and Breakdown

It seems like the question of whether or not we can trust Ferris has finally been answered, and the answer is a resounding no. Why is she manipulating Dee Dee and to what end? What route will Finola take? Will she go home to Dee Dee or will she go find her father? As for the Debris of the Week storyline, we are very intrigued by Caroline and her struggle and find Luke to be a very compelling and even sympathetic antagonist. Debris has been doing such a great job giving us complex and gray characters and plots, and this episode is certainly no exception. We hope that you will join us as we review and break down this episode of Debris, discussing all of these points as well as so many more! Read More…

567- Forged by Failure

567- Forged by Failure

Last week I ended the episode with me FINALLY landing what was my dream job at that time: a buying position within the company I was working for. My first day on the job was preparing for a business trip to our industry’s annual conference taking place the following week. My new assistant got me up to speed, and out the door I went. The new team I was working with was enjoyable. My assistant was very knowledgeable and really delightful to work with. The other junior buyer in our department was amazing. I’d known him for a number of years and he was a rock star. In fact, he was the guy that got the buying position I mentioned last week. He was a couple of years younger than me, but had a reputation throughout the company for being smart, analytical, humble, and a hard worker. The senior buyer was…different. I was used to working for bosses that took the work seriously, aimed to perform at the highest level, but still had a way of being very personable. This new boss did not have any of that last attribute. He was aloof and quiet. There were days where the only thing he’d say to me was hello and goodbye.

Supernova Listener Feedback

Supernova Listener Feedback

As is always the case, we received some fantastic listener feedback from our Nachos this week as they joined us in our conversation about this stellar episode of Debris! We received a mixture this week of written and audio feedback from both some of our regular contributors as well as a few new names, including Jack, John (also known as TheSilverVox), Bradley, Emily (also known as Soggy Nacho), Geoff, Patty from Canadia, Kome, and Brian (also known as Brain or Zeppelin Driver). We also received some great thoughts from Nachos via Facebook and Twitter. Great insight such as the potential meaning behind the title of the episode, the fact that Kurt likely had a military background, why Bryan is injecting himself with a mysterious substance, and so much more are all discussed in this listener feedback episode, and you won’t want to miss it! Be sure to connect with us so that you, too, can be featured in a listener feedback episode! Read More…

Richard Greenwood, VFX supervisor of Debris, joins us in this special episode of the podcast to discuss all things VFX! He also answers some questions submitted by our listeners and gives a little bit of advice to anyone seeking a similar career path. It was such a privilege to be able to talk to Richard, and we hope that you’ll enjoy listening to our conversation with him as much as we enjoyed having it! Read More…
