The number of citizens infected by the phantoms continues to rise.ย Brainy keeps constructing more containment pods. If a new plan is not formed soon, Supergirl will come home to a phantom zone on Earth!ย With each life force gained, Phantom Prime becomes more powerful. If the team cannot find the chrysalis before it solidifies, the infected will be lost souls forever!
Meanwhile in the phantom zone Nyxly uses her magic to portal to the pocket where Kara believes the exit from this dimension is. Allura would never leave her guards stranded. They are quickly disappointed as they find the portal mirror broken. Kara refuses to lose hope despite her fatherโs skepticism.ย

Back on Earth, Alex refuses to believe that she will not succeed in both missions in front of her. She must save the city and her sister.ย She soon comes to realize that an impossible choice needs to be made. What would Kara do in this moment? ย Alex has no doubt that her sister would save the world before herself every single time. Alex must soldier on and make the hard choices so she does not lose both battles.ย
Nia is frustrated with her powers. Why does she keep dreaming of Kara and Alex in high school?ย How can that possibly be significant on the current mission?ย It is splitting her focus and making it hard for her to find Phantom Primeโs lair.ย Mโgann only received a part of her soul from Jโonn, leaving the rest of her soul trapped in the chrysalis with the others. This gives her the power to sense phantoms and therefore help Dreamer with the mission.ย
Lena is really enthusiastic about working with the team at the tower.ย She develops a device to capture phantoms hands free, keeping you safe from a scratch that will steal your soul. She also has a way to locate Kara in the fractured phantom zone. ย If only they could find something containing her genetic code.ย Time is running out and the chrysalis is about to become impenetrable.ย Alex will have to make a hard choice. She takes the device from Lena and changes its function. Now she can use it to pierce the chrysalis and free all the souls inside.ย
Back in the phantom zone Nyxly is not quite what she seems.ย Supergirl thought she found an ally in a world full of foes but she was wrong. Nyxly wanted Supergirl to activate the portal out of this dark place. When Supergirl realizes Nyxlyโsย nefarious intentions she smashes the mirror. This possibly sentences herself and her father to an eternity of darkness. She did what she had to do. She would not let an imp set on vengeance loose on the Earth. Kara will find another way and will never lose hope because she is our Maid of Steel.ย

Season 6 – Episode 5: “Prom Night!” ย THE FLASHBACK TO MIDVALE INTRODUCES A YOUNG CAT GRANT โ Nia and Brainy attempt to save Supergirl from the Phantom Zone by time traveling back to Karaโs home in 2009. While determined to secure the item needed to help Supergirl, Brainy is worried about keeping a low profile so as not to alter the future timeline. However, when their ship crashes upon arrival, a young Kara Danvers (guest star Izabela Vidovic) is the first on the scene. Meanwhile, a young reporter named Cat Grant (guest star Eliza Helm) sets her sights on Midvale as she suspects there is a big story in the small town. Some blog post comments…
“Back in the phantom zone Nyxly is not quite what she seems.” – which is a bummer because why can’t Kara have another imp friend?!
“Why is Zor El in the Phantom Zone?” – I’m going to save my optimism for things for her and vote to say he’s not really there because I SO want that to be true! Again him being alive just makes Kara’s original loss less and less emotional punch wise. I’m hoping Kara sees Zor while Nxy sees someone else, Kara thinks it’s her dad but really at the worst case it’s just someone trying to also use her to escape; the main thing is Zor needs to stay dead!
“Meanwhile, a young reporter named Cat Grant (guest star Eliza Helm) sets her sights on Midvale as she suspects there is a big story in the small town.” – awe, they could so have used Jeremiah meeting Cat to feed her some story about how Kara got lucky if she’s there to investigate her (which is probably is given these writers now want to force a connection everywhere even when things shouldn’t be linked) for this episode. I’m definitely sweating how Cat could give some cheesy line to a young Kara and I already don’t like it!
On to the podcast…
“Lex Luthor not in this episode” – yay!
Monty versus a kangaroo…I love you Monty but I think I have to bet on kangaroo. ๐
Alura building the Phantom Zone makes as much sense as Crisis does aka no sense the more you think and look at it. Awesome points to showcase this by Leslie!
Oh Leslie, please don’t be upset that I said this to Monty just moments ago but I also love you. ? ? ? I SO HARDCORE AGREE with you in regards to the pre-show feedback you had in regards to the treatment of our series currently and how it’s disrespectful. *chef’s kiss* “That was enjoyable to hear!” – I agree John! ๐ To its credit “Arrow” was the first show for the universe so I get making a deal out of it, but still we aren’t even getting Legends treatment – that show has consistently been on the lower end of ratings yet it continues to be renewed; they have ego at stake with “Batwoman” so they’re trying and Flash despite having repeat plots from what I hear is still being written too with some care so why not us? Okay Melissa wants time with her kid but that doesn’t mean the series has to end? Even if it did you could treat it better and give us an Alex spin off to continue the world without Kara as the lead! Again I maintain that once they got the rights to Superman they no longer cared about Supergirl and that’s a shame because as we’ve said many times season one was so awesome and the characters of Alex and Kara alone are enough to watch multiple seasons on.
You really think Melissa is completely done with Kara John? Like forever or do you think she may make some select appearances but won’t obviously be in every upcoming crossover? I hope Chyler isn’t done with Alex also!
Until there’s a female super baby on the series, Clark can have a girl child writers, I won’t be watching “Superman & Lois” and I fully admit it’s under protest mainly for how they’ve disrespected “Supergirl” for so long. It started by writing Kara like her cousin in season two even though they aren’t the same person and has just grown from there. I’ve also seen Superman stories a million times because he’s always the only Super they use but fully admittedly a lot is because of protest, not the creatives cares as that would mean caring about “Supergirl” and her fandom in some way and they don’t.
If we had a “Supergirl” series comic run that would be cool! I still also want that Alex Danvers TV spin off though because Chyler as the character is just magic! I know Supergirl is suppose to be coming in movie form in the future but it would still be nice to have something for the show, it feels like we’re constantly being shafted next to everyone else.
The “My CW Stories” bit was good!
I love when the pre-show is like 1/3 of the podcast length, math isn’t my strong suit so excuse any errors please, and each episode is like 2 hours; it’s a bit of a listen yes but always so good. If the creatives won’t support us with good content we’ll make it ourselves! ๐
I’m waiting for Justina’s “That’s not how DNA works!” rant this week and next. ๐
Nia definitely has been a season MVP so far!
Does J’onn have Tardis tech, is that what you’re asking Justina? ๐
I hope Nxy isn’t the big bad because it’s cliche! Alex is an anti-hero Daryl, embrace it. ๐
Crisis doesn’t count! Oh Justina possibly is not the word Alex does have an unhealthy issue with alcohol. ๐ Props to Maggie again for tamping that issue down some but Alex and alcohol will always be around each other I feel, the question is just what is their long term relationship? Right now it’s pretty abusive both ways but they could be social friends at the end – we’ll see. Other options for DNA – as you said early, a hairbrush. Also you could go back to when she caught Red Tornado or Reign because Reign beat her SO bad there’s definitely blood on the streets for that fight! There’s again literally NO reason to go back to Midvale.
You could ship Lena/Alex way back in season two Monty from when Lena shot the fake cop to save Alex. It’s like Sam/Alex it’s not a hard ship to do. ๐ Supercorp fans would take an issue with it but it’s as close to Supercorp as they’d realistically get I feel because Kara likes men too much; she supports the queer community wholeheartedly but is not part of the queer community herself. They better keep Beebo far from this series! Lol to the alternate title suggestion for the episode! ๐ “No salad is worth that” – accurate.
I submit to you Blackhawkfan – “we need to go back…back to season one!”. ๐
I agree Dreamweaver, I feel nothing really in the Kara and Jor scenes.
“They could go and find Mon El, I mean she’s left DNA on Mon El!” – ?……look, it was well done I can’t deny that it was so well done a remark but also you’re now dead to me John. Things like this is why K Vox is my favorite y’all! Ha.
If the explosion is real then Jor should definitely be dead; if he’s alive he’s totally a vision.
A GREAT point Leslie about time travel and locking up the Phantom projector to just erase everything that happened! I’m definitely worried about the prom episodes also!
Alex is not calling Eliza until she’s positive it’s going to take more than a week to get Kara back, maybe a month. Ha. I will agree Eliza definitely needs to be in the season in some way! She doesn’t want to have to tell her she “failed”.
They totally ripped off N*Sync with that background music. Much like Leslie I totally worry about the continuity issues to come from these episodes; I’m hoping for chuckles but I’m also preparing for a lot of groans.
alex definitely uses alcohol as an unhealthy coping mechanism. i really thought we would have seen her drinking in the last episode but when we didn’t i thought they gave her some piece of character growth that they just did and weren’t going to show us. i think the drink with lena was just an end of the day drink not like when she couldn’t deal with things in the past and went straight to the bottle
I agree that the drink with Lena was more a social thing.
Again I think it’s only due to all the work Maggie did before that Alex wasn’t just the meanest drunk on the block last week because without Maggie helping her see drinking wasn’t her best option each time she would have been so deep in bottles it would be like college all over for her!
I’m definitely proud of Alex for having come this far to where her first instinct wasn’t to wash away her pain and problems with booze but I don’t think she’s at a place where you can say she’s good yet. I feel she needs to be watched for a few more years at the least to see how she continues with this growth because she’s doing okay so far but the longer Kara is away will that resistance hold and even when Kara comes back if something happens will she fall back into old habits? Again she definitely has an unsteady relationship with alcohol; I think she can become a social drinker only in the future but right now she’s still in a delicate place where she could easily fall back into the booze hound we know and love if the situation doesn’t go right. This is her transition time to see if she’ll make it to social drinker or is alcohol just always a problem for her.
You know where we could explore this also more? An Alex Danvers spin off series. Let’s make it happen already CW!!!
I don’t remember Maggie helping her with her possible issues with alcohol. This show has never bothered to have Alex confront why she turns to alcohol when things get really bad and I don’t think they’ll start now
Maggie basically helped her during season two, Leslie can give more exact episode numbers, when she was drinking so heavily over Jeremiah and she told her she doesn’t have to do that each time to feel better; she said Alex could talk to them and she gave Alex a hug while Alex cried on her shoulder at her apartment island.
Alex and her alcoholism is definitely one of the MANY things they could explore with a spin off!
Personally I think she’s one of the people who just doesn’t do well with alcohol, she goes to mean drunk real easy. I assume it started over Jeremiah’s loss and she just continues to use it as a way to deal with the pressure she’s felt for so long. Instead of talking about her emotions she drinks them and because she’s really such an emotional person she drinks a lot! The less she has to worry about in her mind the more she can focus on Kara and any jobs at hand so it makes it easier if you will; ugh, again give us the spin off CW! ๐
If one does not show me that Alex is doing the Carol Danvers thing…
“Hello, my name is Captain Marvel and I am an alcoholic,.”
“Hello, Carol.” from her support group…
===========================================
Then Alex is still a drunk who uses alcohol as an anodyne as well as an emotional situation pain avoidance in other respects, as far as in show evidence in this episode still suggests.
Nyxy was in the Phantom Zone. Myxy did not wind up there. I knew from the Captain Obvious introduction that naรฏve Kara was about to be had two ways. But I will leave Zor-el for a bit.
===========================================
Ahh… I think the tin on Zor is correct. He is there because he:
a. created the World Killers and Alura lost it.
b. screwed up the launch of Kara’s pod and Alura lost it.
c. blew up Krypton and Alura lost it.
d. chickened out on the Argo life raft launch and Alura lost it.
e. tried something else stupid and Alura lost it.
Whatever it was, Alura filed for divorce Kryptonian style and Zor wound up in the Zone.
============================================
When the Five Man Band + Miss Martian land in Midvale, they can bump into Cat and stalk her as she stalks Kara. All, of course, this happens to set up the pun, as they pursue Kara’s nose bleed for that DNA, because every news hound knows from the crime blotter coverage; “If it Bleeds; it leads!”
============================================
Lex Luthor should be back shortly.
============================================
There are laws protecting kangaroos. The kangaroo lost in the court of practicality as he did not get my salad. Also, I can swim.
============================================
One can build a structure and project it into a dimension (theoretically), but one cannot build a dimension. I suppose I could explain that simple concept to these show writers, the difference between a material thing of field effects and a property of existence in which the field effect is a derivative like TIME or VOLUME or MATTER or GRAVITY, but I do not have 150,000 words and they do not have the math for it.
Liberal arts writers. No imagination.
=============================================
Why is the writing so bad on this series? Aaron, I’ve pounded on Ally Adler and Derek Simon for five years. Does one think I have chosen those two people I repeatedly over time identified specifically because I picked names out of a kangaroo pouch? With debacles like Chuck and No Ordinary Family in the resumes, the outcome was predictable that the SG writer’s bullpen, with those two people involved, would stink on the Kryptonian ice.
=============================================
Kara Nosebleed and Hairbrush are trademarked Montefescu (TM).
=============================================
Lenex was never so obvious to me at the time. This time I noticed.
=============================================.
Functionally, any disenfranchised or oppressed group, whose disenfranchisement or suppression is not justified on moral grounds, (Nazis and child molesters and those who would deny the human worth and dignity of the medically disadvantaged or mentally special needs or those who discriminate against other people because of their legal and legitimate lifestyle, political beliefs, physical appearance or actual as opposed to their supposed gender. Such bigots should be called out and challenged to learn compassion and common sense and or when they break the law should be encouraged to break big rocks into little rocks with rubber mallets.) should be championed by the Symbol of Hope. We should be better than we are. How else can we improve? How else can we keep our promise to ourselves as human beings? That is Kant’s Moral Imperative, that we do the right thing in spite of what we want to do, which is take the easy way to “virtue”.
=============================================
Here is a hint: recast Kara. Let us see how Flashpoint does and if Sasha Calle can take up the mantle. AFAICT, from what I see now of the action sets, Ms. Benoist is done. She cannot stunt the role anymore, even in the limited capacity for closeups and face shots.
=============================================
There was a now banned podcast of Supergirl adventures that featured Lara Kent, a Clark and Lois super-kid. Aunt Kara was her guardian. This story was phenomenal. Here is a hint: the Moon was her base and it was under attack from the Monitors. Same series has Lex Luthor in hell doing the Sisyphus thing when his attempt at godhood goes wrong.
=============================================
If one can get it, Peter Alan David has a Supergirl run that is 80 issues long as good as anything he ever did for the Hulk. That run still stands the test of time.
Then there is Sterling Gates’ run. About 45 issues.
=============================================
There is somewhere on the web an Earth Angel series. I will not tell you who the author is.
=============================================
Jason Behr, I suggested, should be sacrificed to the Lake Monster. he plays Zor-el.
=============================================
Well… Mon-El Railroad, that wa…ay would be a little OTT for me, but maybe some Kara sweat on his Spandex, left after a sparring match? Better than a nosebleed.
=============================================
I hate pinched off time loops. In reality, these should exist in those universes where an infinite mass rotating cylinder exists (like ours may be.) inside another medium and thus an event horizon interface might exist; but that would be a boundary trip outside such a universe and a 2 d linear edge transit effect and is INACCESSIBLE from the inside of the described black hole.
============================================
With these writers? I doubt they will “remember” Eliza.
============================================
I was not a fan of the music in any of the episodes this season. I think music can set half the mood of a scene. Wrong music (Captain Marvel movie example.) and the scenes and the story sour to the viewer as the music sets the “prejudice” for or against the rest of the scene, especially visually.
Monty.
Alex is an alcoholic.
“Whatever it was, Alura filed for divorce Kryptonian style and Zor wound up in the Zone.” – lol!
I have to say I saw a photo recently where a young Alex meets young Cat and I already hate it because I can just feel them messing with our timeline in regards to who knows what now (or at least who should know what) and/or who knows who and that’s not okay!
“Also, I can swim.” – so the gator will get you is what I’m hearing; or the sting ray. Or you know anything; Australia (if you are there) is the home of everything “most deadly X”. Ha. New Zealand much safer from what I hear. ๐
Ali Adler hasn’t been a part of the series since season one Monty so I’m not sure how much she factors into your comment but I know you aren’t crazy over Derek Simon. My thing is handling; after over 100 episodes I don’t expect every one to be a hit but some that are bad could be at least okay if they handled them better…and the annoying part is sometimes it’s the littlest tweak they would have to make to make it good but they instead choose to go the other way despite fans clearly saying before it’s the one way we don’t want (see Guardian Kelly and how no one wants that!). “Supergirl” had such potential and they wasted it at every turn with poor choices certainly post season 3; I grant you seasons 2 and 3 aren’t as good as one.l but they still feel kind of like the show we loved but seasons 4 and on have just left more and more fandom members asking “What is this? What happened to my series?”.
“Lenex was never so obvious to me at the time. This time I noticed.” – again I noticed it back in season two. Ha. I still feel it could have happened honestly at any point on the series and it would have been glorious, but season three gave us Sam and as you know it’s hard to top Agent Arias. ๐ Lena/Alex isn’t even a cannon ship and I still buy it more than Kelly/Alex. Kelly makes a wonderful friend for Alex I feel but I just don’t get the romantic chemistry between she and Alex like I do with Alex and other women; I will admit I’m in part against Kelly/Alex because it feels like such a replacement for James/Kara that I can’t support that but even that aside it’s a lot of telling us they’re in love and showing with some kissy face action but that does not a romance make, again I want the meat like we got with Maggie and some of that could have been shown in the scene where Alex tells Kelly who Kara is but they decided to cut it because “not enough time” even though we’ve had 3 episodes of Phantom action so some of that could have been cut to make room for the scene and still gotten the point across! Also Kelly feels more like a plot device of the week instead of the interesting shrink we were first introduced to so it’s hard to care about her even though Azie is charming as all can be playing her! The fact they want to force Guardian on her doesn’t help me get excited for her plots either so yeah it’s hard for me to really get into Kalex despite Chyler and Azie trying their best to make it work. If Kelly got to just be the shrink she is and was someone not related to James and didn’t go near the Guardian suit I might be able to get more excited about them but as is there’s just nothing to really enjoy with them beyond seeing the actors’ faces. ๐ Maybe if we had more seasons to work with them I could buy Kalex as a couple but as is I don’t; I see them as more friends with benefits who could become more but at this moment they’re more friends than into the lovers stage.
“Here is a hint: recast Kara.” – ooh, that just sounds dirty Monty, I won’t lie. Melissa is so becoming the face of the character to me I don’t know if I want to see anyone else on TV as Kara you know? And to see someone different with Chyler as Kara…it feels weird. Maybe if they had another Crisis like thing to have this be an alternate Kara or even make her Powergirl and Alex is somehow still her sister that could work to explain the change but otherwise I’m not really into that pitch right now.
See if they went Lara Kent as one of the twins on the series instead of two boys I might care about watching the Superman show but as is no.
What I’m hearing Monty is there’s at least 125 issues of Supergirl comics out there to pull from so again I ask why are they so into using Superman content for her?! This doesn’t even factor in the Powergirl content! SO ANNOYING; Kara is not her cousin so stop treating her like it writers!!! ?
“but maybe some Kara sweat on his Spandex, left after a sparring match?” – ?stop helping John.
Hmmm.
1. Well, every episode, it appears Alex reaches for the whiskey.
2. These are Kryptonians. Of course divorce means one of the partners winds up in the Phantom Zone.
3. It is a given that time travel stories will be continuity derailers with the reset button shorted out. Add incompetent writers and one gets sludge.
4. -Blue Ringed Octopus
—-Box Jellyfish
—-Cassowary
—-Funnel Web Spider
—-Saltwater Crocodile
—-Sharks, three types, though rarely do they attack humans.
—-Snakes, about 100 deadly types.
—-Stingray
—-Stonefish
—-Textile Cone Snail
In all cases, the attacks *(except for snakes) range to less than 100 incidents with less than 50 deaths per type within the last fifty years. It is the snakes which are the problem. But even these snake incidents are fairly “rare” accounting for about 180 incidents and 90 deaths in the last 50 years. New Zealand is actually deadlier, when measured statistically.
6. She, Ali Adler, hired most of the writers, especially Derek Simon. And her poison has persisted from Season 2 onward. She does not get a pass from me at all for her legacy down to the present, though she “moved on” to other projects in 2017. Nobody apparently has trusted her after she “consulted” on Dynasty in 2018. Wonder why?
7. Being able to swim means one learns about water safety. (^^^)
8. I have to suggest I prefer Supercorp to Lenex. As to SG being “straight”, how much do you know about Curt Swan, Batgirl and Supergirl and his famous Supergirl and the tire, art? Google it. Be surprised.
9. Alex and Sam work as a writer’s exercise. Nothing else in this series, so far as a possible OTP Alex match has ever fitted.
10. Azie has no chemistry through the camera with Chyler. I can tell when a simulated romance clicks and it has never been there with Florianna, or Azie with Chyler. Come to think of it, has ANY pairing aside from Chris and Melissa, Katie and Melissa or Odette and (insert name here), ever worked on the show? I mean even Jesse and Nicole are hit and miss, depending on whether Jesse remembers to “act” in scene. I think this may be a fundamental problem with the show runners not being able to cast properly and why they keep trying to fit every failed “love object” for Alex or Kara with that stupid Guardian shield and moniker.
11. I’ve gone through 17 actresses who have voiced or represented Kara zor-el over the years, Aaron, in live action or in animation as I’ve collected the body of work with this character. I am a FAN. Melissa is one of the best to play the part, but she is not physically able to carry that part anymore in live action. The ten year rule has caught up with her. She can and may do voice work in the future and that will give her at least another two decades potential, but her live action work in the role is over.
12. There have been 9 volumes. I estimate at least 500 issues. Supergirl actually has more enemies than Superman! There are at least six major story arcs:
a. World of New Krypton
b. Blackstarr
c. The Earth Angel
d. Necron
e. The World Killers
f. Flamebird
g. The Glorith Saga.
h. Reign in Hell.
i. The Gang.
Each one of those stories could take an entire TV season or serial to tell. They come complete with villains. All the writers had to do was adapt the story for the small TV screen. The Glorith Saga was a galaxy spanner with the Legion.
Do not ask me why the idea was to use 1990s Superman stories for Supergirl? Maybe the idea of Glorith, Reign in Hell and Necron terrified the writers because they could not handle religion or the questions of morality raised in those grand stories. Those were the 1990s stories in which Linda Danvers, the devil worshipper became the Earth Angel or it was Supergirl before the Anti-Monitor killed her, (Kara) who was with the Legion of Superheroes as a member /leader fighting Glorith in another series with deep religious overtones. I cannot say.
13. I am not going to enter squick territory. if we have to have Mon-el Railroad as a source of Kara DNA, then it will be in the Rocky Graziano context. Kara’s sweat on Kara’s gloves that pommeled Mon-el in a sparring match and got the DNA transfered on his spandex shirt, as she body punched him. Not anything else, ya hear?
Monty
New Zealand is where “Xena” was filmed so…I’d still go New Zealand. ๐
I don’t know Curt Swan so I tried to look up art but didn’t see anything that grabbed me to your point about Kara not being the straightest board in the store as it were; is there an exact image you know of to show this? Supercorp wouldn’t be bad but I just can’t see it myself currently. I can always see Agent Arias! ๐
Lol I love how your option for Odette’s screen partner is just basically everyone and anyone because she’s so charismatic; I would submit this also extends to Katie! I of course can’t enjoy Chris and Melissa because of Chris being Mon.
It pains me to ask this but I will because the set up is there, who would you recast as Kara Danvers if they did an Alex spin off and Melissa wasn’t in the role Monty?
Blackstarr? That name sounds familiar. I will admit I’m not a very religious person but moral questions can definitely be interesting if embraced right; I have to say they had some of these intriguing set ups for season one but never paid them off such as just what can and can’t the DEO legally do? What is a hero exactly (this is making about anti hero Alex)? Again they could have tackled some of this stuff with Sam in season four also but it’s as you say they’re scared of organic drama for some reason. ๐
1. Xena was a good series. New Zealand has beautiful and still human unspoiled range.
2. Depends. I can only “measure” the “Q” pairings of the seen couples. However odette does appear to be a universal plug-in for romantic roles.
3. Hmmm. recast the Melissa part in an Alex Green Lantern series? I refuse to option the idea of Chyler in the role of Rocket Raccoon.
Jessica Rathe or Logan Browning.
4. Curt Swan’s tire art, as mouth to mouth Supergirl resuscitation, can be found at Superman Family 171, published July, 1975, page 25. The story was “Cleopatra, Queen of America”. Curt Swan and Mahmud Asrar are considered two of the finest Supergirl artists ever. Curt Swan is the better artist. He can be “subtle” and obvious at the same time, for in those panels he slipped in a Supergirl-Batgirl connection that he implies is more than just partners.
It is a strange page of art panels.
5. Rachel Berkowitz. Think of her as the Winter Soldier of DC Comics only in her case, she has no steel arm. She fights with Black Holes. Much the most powerful villain I have ever read in a Superman or Supergirl story.
You can find her first appearance in Supergirl Vol 2, Number 4, published February 1983 as part of the “The Gang” storyline. Paul Kupperburg and Carmine Infantino created her.
6. What can the DEO do? Whatever the story needs? In the real world, the DEO is at least in US law, subject to Posse Comitatus and would not be allowed to act inside the United States or the territories it governs. Outside? Anything goes, except for murder and treason.
Monty
Xena is awesome; it still holds up today I feel. I know it’s also campy as all get out but as an example of how to write an anti hero/anti villain and just complex characters in general it’s aces! Admittedly season four and on are not its best, season five was okay I feel, but Xena as a lead and the quality of character writing work until essentially the very end; I highly recommend the series for anyone who hasn’t checked it out yet! ๐
I’ve never seen Jessica Rathe’s or Logan Browning’s work so I’ll have to take your word on the recommendation.
Blackstarr is more powerful than Reign? That’s saying something!
I just watched the episode “Prom Night”. I need to think about it. There is a lot I liked, and a lot I did not like. Have to think about it.

Spoiler alert for my review – https://th.bing.com/th/id/Rde06ab8155b87116e7a0f39f33106dc6?rik=wDZ1MOwhj%2fCt1Q&riu=http%3a%2f%2fwww.zerothposition.com%2fwp-content%2fuploads%2f2016%2f06%2fdumpsterfire.jpg&ehk=nwCLR%2bcqKZlkQNMZX%2fBqNcpkRvPJF8PAOavRXMA2GfY%3d&risl=&pid=ImgRaw .
The ONLY thing I liked was young Alex; I appreciate the young Cat actress trying but it wasn’t the same but the rest absolute garbage which insulted the series to the point I’m just here for the actors now and to see how hard the series falls before the credits roll. I’m going to guess pretty far the way things are going sadly!
“Supergirl” for me has cemented their legacy of a series of wasted potential; the disrespect the characters have now received in writing along with the disrespect the fandom has received in how the series was handled is just too much for me. ๐

Hello Maid of Steel Podcasters: Sober as Dumbkin Doughnut eating Colluan computer KIutz Monty here.
Is there anything I should do before I start this review?
FLUSH…
That’s better.
May 25, 2009. Remember the story date for setting of era. Because when I complain about people using cell phones that are too modern for the date or driving cars that did not exist, then you are going to understand why I join with one of my esteemed co-reviewers in suggesting that production values on this show and any effort to present a coherent “feel” to the episode is a dumpster fire. I have not even gotten to the writing and the acting yet, but the direction as in auteur vision is already going down… down … down … down….
Chyler, as adult version Alex, just reads her lines like she has just barely memorized them. David mumbles his. The gym was under construction? Remember that line folks cause when we see it later, it is going to bite someone in the aspidistra, specifically Rob Wright and Jesse Kardos who wrote that garbage into the script. Not a nose bleed? Bruised knuckles from asteroid punching. Okay. This reminds me of Dexter’s Laboratory and the dodge-ball episode, but that cannot be a thing, right? This episode is not that cartoony ridiculous in plot? If Kara fell through the gym roof, how did her DNA wind up in center field on the baseball field? Incidentally, it is obvious these writers have NEVER seen a baseball diamond or a baseball field or they would know center field is beyond second base and not inside the diamond.
Sheesh; the writing is staubzaubering. (Means in German… it sucks hard.)
Scooby Doo reference. Am I going to hate Kenny?
Cats from trees and kids from wells? Hey… anybody ever hear of this invention called a ladder? Remember when Kenny was bumped off during the Midvale episode which featured the sheriff running a drug ring? That was “Midvale”, Season 3. I went back to my old review and looked at it. I hated the actor then; Ivan Wok, and this new stiff…Peter Adrian Sudarso is another big fat zero.
Braindead explains the time travel sciencey stuff with references to how Hollyweird movies show “time travel”. One cannot violate paradoxes laid down in “Back to the Future”. As a famous American civil war general once said, just before he lost at Gettysburg… “We trust our fortunes to the ravings and fantasies of a (insert colorful language here to describe the thespian’s illegitimate ancestry in gerund form.) worthless actor?”
I know Jesse Rath talentlessly reads the lines of technobabble off cue-cards but how could even he keep a straight face with that gibberish?
“Don’t mess it up.” Too late for that admonition, Alex. We are not even five minutes into the episode and Braindead will blow out some unobtainium widget in the Legion ship as he screws up the time jump and Dreamer will make the stupid needs of the story decision to go off mission and try to call her not dead yet mom when it is all about “Star Trek XV: the Search for Kara’s Bruised Knuckles.”
Oh when is the alien zoo-keeper to kidnap these two idiots, Braindead and Dreamer, going to show up?
You did not catch the clues? It is a rip-off of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” “The Most Toys” Episode 322. That episode Staubzaubered hard, too. Hated it.
From Dumkin Doughnuts, Braindead now munches on Potato chips. Why not pretzels for the visual gag? I am sober now with clear critical faculties and I still do not get the joke about mere stress eating. Braindead is supposed to be an idiot. Okay, I get that bit, but why is eating food whenever he screws up (100% of the time as the comedy relief.) supposed to be funny? If he was eating PRETZELS to symbolize his twisted illogical disordered thinking, THAT would be funny. But potato chips just means a fat Braindead. That is not funny.
12,000 years or 15,000 years? Remember back when Kara found the Legion ship? It was not the date of the miss, it was the fact that Braindead materialized the Legion ship inside a ROCK that was the problem. It knocked the ship out until it was dug out.
There is going to be a bit where these two clowns are going to bury the ship in the baseball field at Midvale High. if one does not get the stench of “Star Trek The Voyage Home” at this stage, then i do not know what to tell you about the writers’ grasping at clichรฉs and tired references in the hopes that one does not notice that the writers have not crafted an original story at all.
How’s that elevator doing? Down… down… down… down.
Young Alex and Young Kara… community theater Canadians? Not quite; Izabella Vidovic, the 20th actress to play Supergirl, is from Chicago. Decent talent. This episode, the makeup crew make her look like a chipmunk. Fire them. How about young Alex? Olivia Nikkanen is the fifth Alex we have had on the series. She is from New York. The hair stylist botched her over big time. Fire that person. The actor playing Kenny is awful. But I mentioned he was a waste of scenery. A potted plant a la Batwoman could have played his part. Eliza Helm is a Los Angeles community theater reject whose chief claim to fame seems she got this part. From what little I could find, she is some kind of fan fiction writer who thinks that qualifies her for an acting gig. Her cat could probably do a better Cat Grant.
The elevator is in free fall.
I’m not even to the first commercial break!
Dysprosium is a material used as a neutron absorber. It can be found in nuclear reactorcontrol rods as an element. It’s other application is as an element in the alloy Terfernol-D used in submarine sonar systems. The closest fictional element to it is VIBRANIUM as used in Captain America’s shield.
If this thing is used in Braindead’s ship’s time regulator, then it is part of a clock. Anybody who uses it that way is an idiot. Quartz is cheaper and is better.
Boy, I’m writing technical criticisms for this show now? How bad is this episode?
Title Card. Already in -200s territory…
============================================
Psychic aliens or psycho-aliens? This scene should have had a 1950s comedy beat treatment. Where are they going to hide the Bird of Prey er, Braindead’s Legion Ship?
In the baseball field. Can I ask a continuity question? Didn’t Saturn Girl and Mon-el Railroad take the Legion ship and Kara’s pod respectively “Back to the Future” like? So how come is the Legion ship here?
Really writers?
Psyconian. Zerg. Zerg? Somebody writing on Supergirl plays Starcraft? Might explain this episode’s BAD dialog. Gamer speak all over the sprechen sir gibberish.
“My name is Kara zor el.” What happened to Kara Danvers? Yeah, this writing is not within the borders of established story-telling for this series. Groundhog Day coming up.
Cue the Collector. Not that I have not already mentioned this was going to happen with all the silly Star Trek clues this episode and this season?
Oh Murphy, I just realized the writers are referencing L Ron Hubbard. This is NOT GOOD! Psychons or Psychlons or Psych-LOONs, the scientology references abound.
In 2009 a 3-d printer was a theory or a bench model, depending on which source one reads. metal sintering is a process in 2009. Plastic is maybe 1988-1990. What is seen in this episode is impossible.
It is impossible to create something from nothing? Google virtual particles. I mean I am meatballing physics. How terrible is this episode?
Hurrying along, we have vandalism, grand theft dyprosium, identity theft, impersonating illegally and driving a school bus without a permit as associated crimes to look forward towards nas we plow through the act two sludge. And Braindead eats Kenny’s Boston Chowder. Now that is a JOKE, because Braindead is a chowder-head. One joke they got right. Just one. Sheesh. I am going to start drinking and hope the episode improves as I numb myself to dumbitude.
Dreamer and Kara have pillow talk. Song in my head.
“I’m forever blowing bubbles
pretty bubbles in the air.”
That is a Doris Day reference.
“Then like my dreams, they fade and die.”
Like season six, writers? If there is a Rock Hudson reference next, I’m going out to find me a kangaroo.
============================================
Normal people, when they are off their rocker or drunk, see pink elephants. Not Dreamer. She sees pink panthers. Friz Freleng reference. That would be Looney Tunes which is a bit too on the mark for me.
Just think inspector Clousseau and hum that Henry Mancini Pink Panther theme as you watch the rest of the episode and drink along with Braindead as he munches on something.
Cue the school-bus Kara trap, the cut-rate Cat Grant comedy bit and the various crimes I previously mentioned. Add malicious destruction of public property and grand theft bus, to the list.
Did anyone notice that our cut-rate Cat Grant dresses as badly as Kara did in season one of Supergirl? The costumers got one right. Hallelujah. Somebody rubbed two comedy neurons together.
Eight shots in and Braindead molests a vending machine for potato chips as the 3-d printer grinds its way along to making his clock. Glee club shanghai for Braindead. Pirates of Penzance Gilbert and Sullivan reference. Sorry, No Modern Major General sale for me, writers. Still stuck with that Pink Panther theme humming in my vodka numbed head that you put there. Vodka is appropriate here. It is liquid potato chips after all.
=============================================
Where did Braindead wind up after the Glee Club shanghai? Switch-hitting as cleanup of the bottom of the order of the Midvale High baseball team. Mrs. Gormley must be a Gorn. I missed the Metrons reference. It has to be in there somewhere.
Coach Kripkey could be a Metron. Who uses “exfiltrate” in ordinary conversation? Not funny, writers.
Where’s the bus? We need the bus, cause this is getting painful to plow through. We need comedy in a hurry.
The old I’m sick and I got to see the nurse, gag? When I tried that crap, the coach told me; “Ten laps around the track. It will cure you. Now move out.” It cured me. Never tried that dodge again. Coaches were smart back when I was an “athlete”… HAH!
============================================
“This is how you trap a Kryptonian. Simply set the stage for disaster and they will try and stop it.” So it was a gasoline tanker truck and not a school bus. Sue me. Also that moron, Maxim Tork, obviously has very little understanding of Kryptonians. Those nitwits let their own planet explode under their feet and did nothing about it.
How do Kara and Dreamer stop the truck? What happens when you ice up the rear wheels on a truck? One reduces the coefficient of friction and blows the tires. That truck does not stop. It fishtails, jackknifes, goes end over end in reality and … oh there is the school bus. Bet it is the soccer team on the school bus It has to be the soccer team. I mean they’ve invoked everything else, these gonzo writers, why not “Red Faced”?
=============================================
“Where am I?” Wouldn’t you like to know. Did you know there are camels here along with kangaroos? Oh, voy, you want the episode review? Cut-rate Cat with a British Columbia map is lost. But she is right where the gas truck, the school bus and a cavalcade of confused creatures from another set of spacetimes and worlds congregate to cacaphonate and create chaos in front of her. Can she get the picture?
That is an X-Files reference. The truth is not out there. Cue the cell phone that should not exist in 2009. Also the cars. I told you I would get around to those problems eventually. I’m half buzzed, but I am not that far gone that I do not remember I wrote those complaints about twenty minutes ago.
Cue the brakes don’t work clichรฉ. Time to ice those back tires, Kara. Forget physics and mechanical realities. This is a CW show. It does not have to make sense. The writers and the production crew do not care. The director is probably lining up her next Batwoman episode.
Okay the glitch flying the Collector ship is named Mitch. Has anybody noticed that I’m rhyming now? Sure sign I’m no longer quite sober. Mitch advises retreat when a Coluan shows up. Why? Would not the Kryptonian be the bigger problem?
End of scene, the guy, named Max Tork puts a pothole in the road when he shoots and misses, Alex collects Dreamer, Kara and Braindead and skedaddles before Cat catches them all. At this moment I am scratching my head. I do not follow the logic. Cat has no evidence. Why not bluff her?
=============================================
Dreamer installs the clock into the Legion ship. Should that not be Braindead’s job? Pink Panther is a Pink Cougar? Well maybe not a Scarlet Cougar, but getting there. Which one of these episode references is Miss Ice? Kara? Really reaching for comedy here, folks. Trying to at least make the review entertaining if the episode is not.
Time to mess with the time line some and call Mom, Dreamer. At the soujnd of the tone, leave a message.
=============================================
Alex lays down the law to Kara speech. Ever wonder if Alex ever stopped to consider that her step sister is a member of an emotionally unstable species who allowed their own planet to blow up and who are walking laser beam weapons? This is not a someone who you want to upset. And that is exactly what happens. “I’ll show you how mature I am! I’m going to tell Kenny!” Way to go, Alex. Way to go, writers. “As the Stomach Churns” soap opera writing segment that is. What would this superhero show be without it? How about …BETTER?
=============================================
Braindead and Nia do the basic DEO file search on Max Tork. What does Bolisian mean? Artificial Intelligence. Well, that obviously is untrue, because everything on Tork’s ship, including HE, is stupid.
And it turns out as Braindead and Nia read the data, that Max Tork in the time altered condition which Braindead and Nia created is now at large and whereabouts unknown instead of captured three days from present date. “Hello, Braindead. Are you perchance related to Barry Allen?”
Speaking of Cats and screwed up timelines, how is a photo shadow supposed to be a spaceship evidence clue to her? How is a drone that was not made before 2015 supposed to be in 2009? Why would she hit on a bartender? How low can she go?
Is that SCHMUCK, Adam’s father? References and callbacks this episode just pile up like cow chips at a hereford’s poker convention. Did I mention without abstention that i am rhyming now?
Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle.
=============================================
Oh no…. The writers have Nicole Maines singing Dolly Parton? GET ME OUT OF HERE!
=============================================
And then Kenny shows off his “gift to Kara”.
=============================================
And Braindead and Nia walk into Max Tork’s rabbit snare trap.
=============================================
Observations? Kenny has to die and Brainy and Nia have to catch a cougar.
Pink Panther theme between my ears.
Dadum dadum dadum dedum dedum badum deee dummm very DUMB…
Henry Mancini between the ears.
Rate it… 3/3/3 out of 5/5/5. I’m blitzed. If I was sober, it would be infinities to negative infinities, but like the actors, directors and writers this episode, I don’t care anymore. If it makes me feel “good” I’ll mellow yellow it and go with the average result from this insult to my intelligence.
Southpark! Kenny has to die, so we can pun on “They KILLED Kenny!”
