SILY 693- Make the Call

I’ve made it no secret on this podcast that I am a super fan of the TV show LOST. I love the mysteries, and the beautiful setting. I love the way the character stories interweave, I love the lore and history of the island. There are a lot of poignant moments and pieces of dialog that still echo in my mind today. But perhaps the most tragic line ever spoken in the series was, “Something tells me he never got around to making that call.”

SILY 692- Burying Your Best

I love that the audience of this podcast is filled with many of those who consider themselves Christians and many of those who do not. Regardless of where you fall within those two categories, today’s episode is for you. Today we’ll be looking at a story Jesus told in Matthew chapter 25, and the lessons found in that story are ones that all of us can benefit from.

S5E3 In Absentia

Join us this week as we, along with special guest Danielle (DillyDilly), discuss “In Absentia” – an episode that shows us somewhat of a dark turn for Etta as she captures and tortures a Loyalist. We see Olivia’s empathy and compassion shine through brighter than ever, and this is also the episode that kickstarts this season’s treasure (scavenger?) hunt.

Pulling Back the Curtain

What happens when the monsters we fear most turn out to be the ones staring back at us in the mirror? This month’s episodes use the lens of fear and pride to pull back the curtain and reveal the truth of human vulnerability. Whether it’s a man who fancies himself the judge of all evil or two people undone by their own panic, the Twilight Zone reminds us that our greatest threats often come from within

691- Monday Mailbag

Welcome to Stuff I Learned Yesterday. My name is Darrell Darnell, I am looking forward to covering the Stranger Things spinoff, “Tales from ’85” next month with my daughter, and I believe that if you aren’t learning, you aren’t living. This quarter we have three mailbag contributions: Ryan, Upside Down, and Jason. Here they are:

SILY 690- Message in a Bottle

Some evenings you take a walk and wonder if the tides are listening. In today’s story, the shore holds more than shells and driftwood. A mysterious traveler drifts ashore in a tale older than sand, bringing with him a question every one of us has asked themselves: If you could rewrite the past, what would you change? Three choices flicker like lanterns in the dusk, each one a doorway for you to walk through. What would you gain? Perhaps more importantly, what would you lose?

Best Disney Soundtracks

Best Disney Soundtracks

The soundtracks and scores play a big part in most of Disney’s films, and in this week’s episode, Blake and JJ discuss some of the best of them! They discuss their favorite soundtracks, and the most overrated and underrated soundtracks, for both animated and live-action Disney films. (Look out, unpopular opinions included!) They also discuss what they have done Disney lately, and some Disney news involving Marvel Comics creating some new Alien and Predator comics. Read More…

8

Check out “8” with us. We have half as many people with audio discussing the episode, and that is probably fitting because among the four of us the score average is nearly half as low. And speaking of halves…this episode felt like half of it was awesome science fiction Twilight Zone and the other half felt overly wordy and overly fictional to our four minds. Then again, Whipples tells us that Octopuses have 9 minds and Darrell discovered another meaning (or place on earth) for the Twilight Zone. So, I guess you can say, The episode wasn’t half-bad. Listen in and as always, drop us a line even if it is just about our discussion. We love the input!  Read More…

Let’s Cook! Recipes From Mickey’s Gourmet Cookbook

Is food one of your favorite things about visiting a Disney park?  Us too!  We had a strong hankering for some Disney food, but visiting the parks is totally out of the question right now.  So we decided if we can’t go get Disney food, we’ll bring Disney food to us!  Darrell and Colby picked up a copy of Mickey’s Gourmet Cookbook and tried three recipes: Polynesian Luau Chicken, Beef Stew with Biscuit, and Gourmet Chocolate Chunk Cookies.  The results were mostly good and definitely gave us a new family favorite!  Read More…

Among the Untrodden

Among the Untrodden

Here we are: half way through season 2 and after last week’s story felt out of tune for many of us, this week’s story has the right amount of magic, or, well, let’s call it metaphysical enchantment which pleased your hosts immensely. Our ratings make us sound like Germans saying no, but the phonetic translation is much more affirming. Robert and Darrell aren’t the only ones who have a lot to say. Darrell expertly covers the old series connections. Robert conjures up his Whipple resources. Bradley sends in audio feedback and he gets to quote William Blake again.  And last but not least…long time listener and first time audio feedbacker, Rick, telekinetically makes us feel the weight of his insight and makes us hope we have a new friend from our listener feedback world besides Robert’s mom and his brother, WALLLLLLTTTTTTT!!!!!  Read More…
