What is wrong with Supergirl? This morning she was inspiring school children before flying into a burning building. Now she is acting very peculiarly. Her inhibitions are gone and her actions are reckless. What is causing this change? All of her negative feelings and resentments are rising to the surface. This is not our Kara. My mind drifts immediately to Max Lord. When trouble is stirring in National City he is often found holding the spoon.

I miss Lena at this moment. I know in seasons to come she will stand between Supergirl and forces that mean to cause her harm. However in this moment let’s take a look back at the day that our beloved Maid of Steel saw red. Green Butterfly, Silver Vox and our super friends re-examine the season 1 episode Falling. Have a super week!

Ha to the banner this week; I can’t take it seriously because that feels so strange to see Kara like that even though she is rocking the look and that part is in her. 🙂 A great choice though!
On to the podcast…
“Raging Red Rock” – totally a nickname for Alex. Ha.
Congratulations on your first win coach Vox! And congratulations to your son!
Not a big Batman fan so the promise is meh. Ha!
One does not badmouth Teri Hatcher in a Super product Bat Vox! Teri was good, she can stay. 🙂 It’s just Mon who can go; not Chris Wood, let’s be clear, but the character of Mon. Ha.
Onion topped pizza – 1000% Kara has had that before! You want a debate for OTP, Bruce has one – Selina or Diana. 🙂 Most will say Selina probably but WonderBat has its supporters out there; Bruce wood say his OTP is Justice though. Ha.
Connecting Ryan and Alice together using the Wonderland Gang feels so lazy especially when that’s Mary’s thing if you will; Alice killed her mom too but because Ryan is the lead now she will get the focus. True they could team up to take Alice out together now but it’s just something about the move that again feels so lazy and I don’t like it. Also, seriously with that scene – the hallway is brightly lit but the room isn’t? Even if you say the lights are off they should have seen them with the hall light before they came in. Also also the hallway looked like a decent building they were moving into but the room itself looked like a “road motel” quality place if you will so it all felt like this mash up that just did not come off as believable to me.
Have they changed one of the male twins into a female yet for the new Superman series? If not, it’s still a pass for me! I have no reason to watch this show.
“I know we could do a whole podcast on ‘Wonder Woman 84’…” – do it!
I really hope they don’t use the Flashpoint film to bring back Steve Treavor for real – it’s more impactful when he stays just this almost she had and the man is resting in peace overall let him stay that way! I wasn’t as into the film as Green Butterfly but it’s worth seeing I feel; it’s not as good as the first in my opinion but it’s still one of the better superhero films DC has put out.
Gal Godot is KILLING it as Diana!
Hopefully there’s more Diana in the Synder cut!
I miss the security of the old DEO, as you say just anyone can come in now, but I don’t mind the setting change to an office because they are government funded so they would have office areas too. The desert base will always be home mind you but the set change isn’t bad. What I miss is what I still miss now – finding out how they work; we still don’t know if they have the right to try aliens when there or if they can even legally hold them because maybe their planet doesn’t recognize human laws! Do they report directly to the President or is there someone over J’onn that we just never saw? Could they legally snatch Max like Alex did?! What are the rules for their operation?
Katie McGraf’s voice – umm. 😀
I mean it also as season one is the best season of the Arrowverse shows all together Silver Vox; I’ve seen other seasons for other series and only one comes close – “Stargirl” season one. I would still put “Supergirl” season one over it but it’s close. Again our season one is pretty close to perfection!
“Supergirl” has the best rogue’s gallery if you will I’ll say and I’ll fight anyone who says differently! Not only are most of our bad guys realistic in feel but they’re also good challenges for our hero and not just a punching bag of the week. Is the whole line up perfect, no but we do have some powerhouses which could go toe to toe and win versus anyone else’s big name; see Reign, Livewire, Maxwell Lord, Silver Banshee, Psi, Bizzaro and arguably even the white Martians!
John went all Lego Batman there at the end I see. 🙂
i definitely remember hearing something about how it would be scarecrow who was the villain ryan wilder would be going after. either that was just a theory or they changed their minds so they wouldn’t have to go through the trouble of casting scarecrow. i definitely ship bruce and diana on justice league.
Well it is time for the latest Bat-gerbillete 2.0 episode 203 review.
Batwoman (TV Series)Bat Girl Magic! (2021) Full Cast & Crew
Monty notes that he is, as promised, drunk to the point that he is numbskulled … The first three minutes and twenty two seconds of this trash episode are spent showing us that the effects people and the makeup artists are incompetent. On the other hand the stunt coordinator, now that he has two human males in simulated combat, actually gets to show what a real stunt fight should look like if he did not have to dumb it down for the female audience of this idiotic insufferable show. That full speed judo throw was close enough to the real thing to give someone an idea of what violence a human can generate or sustain or survive. That was the equivalent of being slammed into an object at about fifteen miles an hour or a fall from six feet.
Most animals can take worse and not be affected, but human beings are a bit on the frailer side. Remember that one.
Next set-piece is Bat-gerbillete 2.0 trying to break up a drug deal. Boots do not fit, lousy at throwing shurikens, fails to police the range after engagement, and why should throwing stars (batarangs) cost $1,000 a pop? Mass produced throwing knives are about $5 and Shurikens are as cheap as 50 caliber bullets. You can buy them on Amazon. Illegal as hello by the way. ATF will be after you. DO NOT DO IT! Be a good citizen and obey the laws against the illegal possession against such devices.
Anyway, this episode would not be a Batwoman 2.0 episode without the victimhood and the boring exposition of the parole officer scene and the rather droll Rachel Maddow Muppetry voice-overs as the voice-over character Vesper. Akin to the rest of this talentless cast, Ms. Maddow’s voice work is Keith Olbermann stupid in quality and content. She should stick to reporting the REAL news and avoid career-ending nonsense like this garbage performance she delivers here.
Mary Kane, in her illegal clinic, without a doctor’s license or legal certification to practice medicine is handing out miracle cancer cures? What the Hypocritical Oath? Why is the operator of an illegal clinic also the owner of a bar called the Holdup? I mean did she pass the background check for her liquor license?
They do investigate you in most American jurisdictions to make sure you have no criminal history or associations or weird flaggables before THEY ISSUE YOU A LIQUOR LICENSE. Even on the Native American lands and in Las Vegas, that is a thing they do. Ehhh.
Jacob Kane and Snakebite? Ehhh. Boring.
Coryana Interlude.
I’m not certain why Sophie ended up as baggage on Beth Kane’s suicide run, but this stupid segment, like the rest of the boring episode is badly staged, shot and edited.
“Nobody cares what you need.” About sums up the show runners attitudes about good writing, plots, characters and production values.
Ehhh.
Victor Zsazz murders a man, strangling him with his own tie in a public concourse at the foot of an escalator inside Hamilton Industries and NOBODY does anything.
We are now -40,-40,-40 out of 5/5/5 for acting, writing directing and we have not reached first commercial. This is unwatchable; but I am buzzed and I have a need for comedy and pain, and I am not sure which happens at this moment.
Luke Fox asks a good question of Ryan Wilder; “How are you on a first name basis with a prolific public assassin?” Wilder’s answer is comedy gold. So… it turns out that the racist and unfair criminal justice system IS not racist and unfair because the criminal justice system caught her, correctly identified her as the getaway driver for a dope pusher and jugged her as an accessory, before during and after the fact? And she is a known ASSOCIATE AND COLLEAGUE of criminals who are familiar and do business with Victor Zsazz? WHAT THE HELLO? Ehhh.
Track the baby’s butt. This is supposed to be funny? A French skin lotion Victor Zsazz uses called Les Fesses de Bebe (Actually Mary gets it wrong, it is “Les fesses d’un bébé”.) Murphy; i HATE this show. They go for Three Stooges that scene and Mary, Luke and Riley pull off the Ritz Brothers instead.
Coryana Interlude #2? Ehhh. So Sofiyah and Beth team up to find out who blew up Kate? And Beth learned killer psycho from the queen of the pirates? Ehhh.
Bat-gerbillete 2.0 and Zsazz have an RPG meeting in his apartment. BATARANGS do run out, a bo staff does NOT work that way and the role playing game includes rocket propelled grenades. What is wrong with those puns?
Second meetdown with Scarry…
Well, I believe Ryan is that stupid and Victor, old boy, is that DUMB. What I do not get, is how dumb do writers think “I” am. Phone hacks are not that simple. Neither should be the plot reveal as to hired Scarry.
Coryana interlude #3. Sophie and Tatiana the Silent? Time filler.
Batcave… Nah. Mary claims the show kills their first gay lead star and Luke’s job is to say; “No, the writers did not.” Want the right answer? This show is going to be cancelled. They will be lucky to get out of season 2 with all their scheduled episodes. Derek Simon LIVES and he has students!
Speaking of stumblebums… NOW Scarry gets clumsy and cannot dispatch one frankly cannot walk and speak at the same time actress playing the role of Mary? This is character shields turned up to maximum and not believable in the slightest. And it took Mary this long to figure out the list Zsazz stole and which Hamilton Pharmaceutical had was all of those Beth Kane Bat-bite victims cured by Mary’s miracle blood she got from the Coryana Desert Rose?
Kind of like the H-bomb: once the secret is out, the explosion is hard to put back into the case. Way to go idiot writers. Cure for cancer and no need for Lazarus Pits! Write your way out of that one.
Taking a page from Supergirl “Redfaced” this silly series tries to stage a “sisters parallel fight” between Riley and Scarry and Sophie and Tatiana. The problem is that unlike that EXCELLENT Supergirl episode, there is no thematic or plot synergy, symbiosis or even valid connection between Riley and Sophie or Zsazz and Tatiana the Silent (who talks way too much by the way), as there was sisterhood between Kara and Alex and identity between T.O. Morrow and the android. and Bo staffs DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
No payoff on the Sophie, Tatiana fight. No murders either. No catharsis… zilch effect. Bored now.
Alice and Sofiyah… yakitty yakitty… still bored.
Let us wrap it up.
Sofiyah and Sofie have a chat. Sofiyah hires Alice to splat, for the price of the original bat, and Ms. Maddow disgraces herself again. The parole officer approves of Riley’s new employment and also of the Bat-gerbillette 2.0 running around.
Sophie and Beth wake up in an alley… Luke wusses out.
“May your memory be a blessing?”
I’ll amend that to read… “May your cancellation be QUICK and your show forgettable.”
And Catherine Gries, like your putative role model, Kathleen Kennedy of Star Wars Ruination fame… there is a job market out there for talentless people like you.
“Do you want fries with that?” Become a grease cook, lady. That is all you are good for.
Monty
“Winder Woman 1984”
I finally got to see this awful piece of trash and I wanted to ask the question of what happened to Patty Jenkins and Gale Gadot in this melange de manure, and why did anyone think it was a good idea to hire the bucket head from the Mandalorian to play Maxwell Lord? Kirsten Wieg as Barbara Minerva was a serious physical problem for me because I did not see the “Q” in her at all.
Oh the movie starts out with a great set meta-cathalon piece on Themyscira. The hammer that falls on poor little Diana is the great set up morality matrix. That hammer should have been the central theme in this movie.
Even the cheesy Enron expy introduction to Max Lord the evangelical oil company con-artist.
The movie still holds up to this moment in spite of the Geoff Johns like antics in the Mall robbery set piece.
Where does it fall apart?
When Barbara Minerva enters the story. She, as Cheetah, was and is unneeded. I do not know why Patty Jenkin wrote her into the story treatment. Every time Kirsten Wieg is centered in a story segment we lose focus on the three fights that should be central to the movie:
a. Maxwell Lord struggles with his inner demons as a product of childhood poverty and a misplaced sense of what he needs to do to succeed for his son. Note the cheating theme?
b. Diana Prince’s cheats to gain her one true love. I will avoid like the plague, the unintended consequences for the poor schmuck who is the puppet for the soul of Steve Trevor or the morality blinkers applied to Wonder Woman as she has her cake and eats him.
c. And the cheating society of the time? Not well developed and somewhat mush messaged throughout the movie.
How does CHEETAH (Note the pun.) fit into the theme? Barbara Minerva does not as jammed into this movie.
So, either build the theme of cheater around the Cheetah or around Maxwell Lord. One cannot have the cat and buckethead in the same movie.
One, generally, cannot have two divergent character and plot lines here. It will muddy what is supposed to be THE HEROINE’S JOURNEY.
The title of the movie is not; “Cheaters Never Win”. It is “Wonder Woman (1984)” with a nod to Orwell, if the writer is up to it.
PATTY JEMKINS, who wrote this mess is not up to it.
Oddly, since she leaned on Geoff Johns for help, HE IS and should have script doctored this manure fest.
Jenkins should have stuck to her wheelhouse and directed, because even in this wreckage, one sees her sheer genius in her action sets and in those patches of the movie which do work, such as the road warrior set piece and the Diana and Steve ride in the “invisible jet”.
I think I am of two minds of gal Gadot’s wire work and Jenkins direction of Wonder Woman super-manning in flight. That does not work well. The dance of the lasso and the lightning? That works for Wondy.
Anyway that is the way I see the picture.. good, bad and a lot of UGLY cobbled together to deliver a brown steaming goo of a view.
As always, this should have been solved in the word processor. The mantra is FOCUS, simplify and stick to theme, plot and content. Prune, prune and prune away everything that detracts from the main character and her journey. This is HER movie, not a treatise on Reaganomics or Clinton greed. (Yes; I noticed the misplaced 1990s greed and sexism intrusions, too.)
Monty
One True Pairings… for Supergirl, the series as Monty works the Q-bits.
10. Tiny Superman and Not Lois. Nope.
9. Dreamer and Braindead. Maybe.
8. M’gann M’orzz and J’onn J’onzz. Nope.
7. Alex Danvers and Maggie Sawyer. Nope.
6. Alex Danvers and Kelly Olsen. Nope.
5. Alex Danvers and a potted plant? Better than 7. or 6. Still hoping for Sam Arias.
4. James Olsen and Lucy Lane. Only if Lucy turns Superwoman on him and James is the practice target for today. Lasers in the side pocket.
3. James Olsen and a potted plant after the Lucy breakup. Yup.
2. Kara Danvers and any of the putative love interests presented to date except 1.? No way, Joseph or Adam or Dick Malvern. At this stage of this show, she might as well hook up with Imra Ardeen for all that these writers know what they are doing. Lena will never happen with them scribbling their soap opera delusions.
1. Kara Danvers and Mon-el Railroad. Well the real life chemistry happened, so who am I to argue with that reality? I would write to the “Q”.
Where does that leave Lena?
Well, there is always Carol Danvers… Who?

“I do not know why Patty Jenkin wrote her into the story treatment.” – because Cheetah is Diana’s big bad and the studio wants to set them up. They really did either need to pick Cheetah or Maxwell for the film as having both was too much. Personally, I liked Barbara and Wiig’s performance but 3 big plots in one film is again just too much and she sadly got the short straw screen time development wise.
I will agree WW84 is certainly no WW but it’s not the worst DC has done to be fair.
“Well the real life chemistry happened, so who am I to argue with that reality?” – I’ll argue it. No, no, no! Mon did not respect Kara ever as shown by the amount of times he didn’t listen to her. He said he wanted to be a hero like her but in season two we never see him do it, it’s only when he’s away from her that he becomes a hero. Kara becomes someone who can’t function without him which is just not pretty to watch; there’s a difference in loving someone and missing them and then just acting like you have no sense. Melissa and Chris might be a match but it’s a HARD no for me on Mon and Kara, they’re just toxic together I feel!
Love the wallpaper link!
As for my romantic OTPs with the series…
1. Alex Danvers and Sam Arias
The potential for them is just SO much and I want more of it! Odette is just a supporting character on “Walker” let her come be a main on the Alex spin off series! Seriously CW stop procrastinating on that already. You let the show go don’t be stupid and let Chyler Leigh walk as well.
2. J’onn J’onzz and Eliza Danvers
I’m telling you they would be ADORABLE together!
There’s not a lot of options on the show really so went some stand out they really stand out.
I certainly have feelings about what I want with Kara but I’ll save those for the podcast. 😉
maybe mon-el went through some character growth but you are absolutely right it was for the most part during his time in the future and the show just obviously expects us to accept him and forget how awful he was in season two. even when he came back he didn’t improve much. i mean come on if we hadn’t been told him and imra were married we never would have come to that realization ourselves. he didn’t have to come back married. they just did it for the drama. and even when imra and mon-el seem like they will end things they don’t mention the treaty between the planets which is the entire reason they got marrried at all. that planetary treaty was a useless plot point.

I have no comment about this news, except that I have no published data at all to predict how she will do as a writer.
None. I checked to see if this author has any published work by which to measure what to expect and all I can find is ZERO.
https://youtu.be/cBq_UnlWAqs
That I found. It is a good foundation for a writer. I am hopeful.
Monty
Maybe she can write something for Kelly to do with her psychology degree because the other writers sure can’t; you sold us shrink Kelly and I want to see her!
Thanks Monty, I could use the good news after seeing the horrendous photo Chyler recently posted; I say it’s horrendous because it’s Alex still in that horrible suit from last season. It broke my heart all over again honestly. #NotAllHeroesWearCapes remember writers?!
Is Chyler still sporting the Rocket Raccoon getup?
I tell you, the showrunners are trying to Mehcad Brooks her.
Monty

And it’s like “WHY?!”; yes Alex is a hero but again she has NEVER needed a super suit to prove that. A super suit is not a comfort to Alex Danvers. It’s just sad; and the worst part is they had time to not do that again hearing fan reaction but like with the “Batwoman” reboot instead of recast they just keep plowing along…..I guess it’s because they feel they really have nothing to lose now making fans mad because it’s the final season. 🙁
I have no words to express how wrong that outfit looks.
Enough bad news, let us look at positivity:
http://www.kryptonsite.com/chyler-leigh-directs-in-supergirl-season-6/
It may be a Midvale episode, which might mean we get young Alex and young Kara?
I think this might show how that directorial effort might go.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1990181/?ref_=nm_flmg_prd_1
In other words, as a producer, even as at an “associate” status, it is not Chyler’s first rodeo. I note that her effort was in an action adventure format.
Would it be a kick, if the “Midvale episode” was written in part by Azie Tesfai?
We might have two “competent” people actually trying to put forth a Derek Simon Supergirl project. And they might overcome the sludge as they do it.
Anyway…
https://static3.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/superalex-header.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=960&h=500
That still looks good to me. Put Alex in BLUE and lets have the spin-off.
“Mama Arias Knows Best”
Has to be better than “Tiny Superman and Not Lois”. I can pitch it.
Monty
I finally tried Charles Soule’s “Light of the Jedi” which is the leadoff into Star Wars The High Republic. “High” is correct. This CRAP is pure propaganda thinly disguised as story telling that is not very good or even literate.
Avoid it.

===========================================
Chyler Leigh is supposed to direct a “Midvale episode” for season 6. Maybe Azie Tesfai will write it?
It cannot hurt and it may be good to see what the two of them can do as a creative team?
Here is a kick to the REALITY CHECK.
I thought the episode “Oh Mouse” seemed eerily familiar on Batwoman. There was a director’s signature, I recognized.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11204046/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast
The director is Amanda Tapping.
Stargate “Resurrection” was her first outing that I saw her as a director.
