SILY 710- Fresh Baked

One year ago, almost to the day, I sat down and wrote about cookies. Except I wasn’t really writing about cookies. I was writing about my daughter. The premise was simple. We all mature at different rates on different things, and just like a good batch of cookies, sometimes we need more time in the oven to become what we’re meant to be. You don’t throw the batch out. You give it more heat and more time. Well, the oven timer has gone off. It’s time to see how the cookies turned out.

S5E12 The Boy Must Live

We are truly nearing the end, cortexifans – so much so that you could make the argument that, even though this isn’t the penultimate episode of our podcast, we are covering the penultimate episode of the series given the fact that 5.12 and 5.13 aired together the same night as a two-hour finale. We talk about this incredibly important episode and all of the answers that it finally gives us alongside Fringe Connections creator Michael London.

SILY 709- Heart of the Matter

Wise. Warrior. Dancer. Husband. Father. Musician. Murderer. Songwriter. Leader. Adulterer. Victim. Full of mercy. Crazy. Cunning. Liar. Full of pride. Humble. All of these words describe the same person. It’s a person I strive to be like, and it’s the subject of today’s story. Intrigued?

Circular History

Is the past truly fixed, or is it merely waiting for someone brave enough to rewrite it? The Twilight Zone loved toying with the idea that time itself might bend for the right person, and few episodes explore that temptation as directly as “The Last Flight” and “No Time Like the Past.”

SILY 708- Surviving Disneyland

Walking out of Star Wars Land after the fireworks, I genuinely wondered if this was the moment we called it a night. We’d been in the parks for over twelve hours. My legs felt like they belonged to someone else and wished I’d find one of those hover chairs from Wall-E to melt into. I was ready to wave a white flag made out of a churro wrapper.

S5E11 Anomaly XB-6783746

While Chris sadly couldn’t make it to this episode, Darrell is joined by special guest Adam to discuss this emotionally heavy episode of Fringe as it winds down to its climax. With only three episodes remaining, Captain Windmark narrows in on the team after discovering that Michael is part of their plan to defeat the Observers, and the result is nothing short of, well… mindblowing.

SILY 684- The Greatest Investment

SILY 684- The Greatest Investment

Our date had been magical. The horse-drawn carriage ride through the Victorian town adorned with Christmas lights was beautiful and romantic. It was a cold evening, but the beauty and sparkle of the lights, seeing the smile on her face, and enjoying the peaceful moment together made it all worthwhile. But moments later I realized I’d made a critical error, and the rest of our evening was going to be ruined.

SILY 683- The Greatest of These

SILY 683- The Greatest of These

This is the final episode in a three-part series based on 1 Corinthians 13:13, which says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” In December we examined faith in episode 674, “Faith on Trial.” In January we explored hope in episode 679, “Hope in the Unseen.” Today we conclude with love.

What if getting exactly what you want is the moment everything starts to go wrong? Two Twilight Zone tales explore the seductive promise of beating the odds, only to reveal how quickly fortune curdles into fate. In both stories, ordinary people glimpse a shortcut to a better life — a way around struggle, chance, and limitation. But Serling’s universe has rules, and tampering with destiny comes at a cost. These episodes tease the fantasy of control while quietly tightening the trap, asking whether luck is ever truly a gift… or just destiny collecting payment in advance.

SILY 682- Getting To Your Happy Place

I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to experience. I mean, I was 42 years old, less than a month away from turning 42, and I was about to do something many people have done by the time they were a teenager. I had done very little research to prepare me for the day, but as I look back on it, I’m not really sure how much research would have helped.

SILY 681- In the Company of Greatness

He was universally hated by his men, removed from command for incompetence, and died alone and forgotten in a veterans’ home—yet he may have been the single most important reason the most legendary unit of World War II became legendary. This is the untold story of the man who sacrificed his reputation and relationships to save lives he would never see again, and how I found personal connection to his life.
