SILY 693- Make the Call

I’ve made it no secret on this podcast that I am a super fan of the TV show LOST. I love the mysteries, and the beautiful setting. I love the way the character stories interweave, I love the lore and history of the island. There are a lot of poignant moments and pieces of dialog that still echo in my mind today. But perhaps the most tragic line ever spoken in the series was, “Something tells me he never got around to making that call.”

SILY 692- Burying Your Best

I love that the audience of this podcast is filled with many of those who consider themselves Christians and many of those who do not. Regardless of where you fall within those two categories, today’s episode is for you. Today we’ll be looking at a story Jesus told in Matthew chapter 25, and the lessons found in that story are ones that all of us can benefit from.

S5E3 In Absentia

Join us this week as we, along with special guest Danielle (DillyDilly), discuss “In Absentia” – an episode that shows us somewhat of a dark turn for Etta as she captures and tortures a Loyalist. We see Olivia’s empathy and compassion shine through brighter than ever, and this is also the episode that kickstarts this season’s treasure (scavenger?) hunt.

Pulling Back the Curtain

What happens when the monsters we fear most turn out to be the ones staring back at us in the mirror? This month’s episodes use the lens of fear and pride to pull back the curtain and reveal the truth of human vulnerability. Whether it’s a man who fancies himself the judge of all evil or two people undone by their own panic, the Twilight Zone reminds us that our greatest threats often come from within

691- Monday Mailbag

Welcome to Stuff I Learned Yesterday. My name is Darrell Darnell, I am looking forward to covering the Stranger Things spinoff, “Tales from ’85” next month with my daughter, and I believe that if you aren’t learning, you aren’t living. This quarter we have three mailbag contributions: Ryan, Upside Down, and Jason. Here they are:

SILY 690- Message in a Bottle

Some evenings you take a walk and wonder if the tides are listening. In today’s story, the shore holds more than shells and driftwood. A mysterious traveler drifts ashore in a tale older than sand, bringing with him a question every one of us has asked themselves: If you could rewrite the past, what would you change? Three choices flicker like lanterns in the dusk, each one a doorway for you to walk through. What would you gain? Perhaps more importantly, what would you lose?

Worth the Watch?

Worth the Watch?

Disney+ has quite the selection of original films and series that are exclusive to the service. In this week’s episode of Mouse House Weekly, Blake has chosen the Disney+ original, “Magic Camp,” for JJ to watch and discuss, and in turn, JJ has given Blake “Behind the Attraction” to watch. After talking about what they have both done Disney lately (including meeting up at Disneyland together), they talk about Disney+ Day, a day celebrating Disney+’s debut from 2 years ago. Once getting to talking about the main subject of the episode, both JJ and Blake tackle their Disney+ originals, talking about their positives, negatives, and whether they are worth taking time to watch. If you’re thinking of watching “Magic Camp” and/or “Behind the Attraction,” go no further than this episode to find out if they are worth your time!  Read More…

The Zone of Mirrors

The Zone of Mirrors

Mirrors give us glimpses into a parallel word and allow us to see the hearts of men.  Well, at least they do in The Twilight Zone.  This month we look at “Mirror Image” and wonder if the ticket agent and washroom attendant are all part of the plan to make Millicent believe she’s crazy.  We also review “The Mirror” and share our theories on whether or not the mirror actually had special powers, or if it was merely the power of suggestion amplified by paranoia that brought about the demise of these revolutionaries.  Read More…

Food Allergies at Disney

Food Allergies at Disney

Food allergies can be fatal, so being able to travel to the Disney (and Universal) parks and safely eat is a major concern for families with food allergies.  This reality is known all too well for Colby, who has allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, and peas.

This week Colby sits down with his dad, Darrell, and mom, Kari, talk about how they discovered Colby had severe food allergies, and what their food experience has been over the last 16 years.  The first half of the episode serves as an educational breakdown of food allergies so those who have never experienced it, might better understand the importance of being aware of food allergies.  Read More…
