SILY 710- Fresh Baked

One year ago, almost to the day, I sat down and wrote about cookies. Except I wasn’t really writing about cookies. I was writing about my daughter. The premise was simple. We all mature at different rates on different things, and just like a good batch of cookies, sometimes we need more time in the oven to become what we’re meant to be. You don’t throw the batch out. You give it more heat and more time. Well, the oven timer has gone off. It’s time to see how the cookies turned out.

S5E12 The Boy Must Live

We are truly nearing the end, cortexifans – so much so that you could make the argument that, even though this isn’t the penultimate episode of our podcast, we are covering the penultimate episode of the series given the fact that 5.12 and 5.13 aired together the same night as a two-hour finale. We talk about this incredibly important episode and all of the answers that it finally gives us alongside Fringe Connections creator Michael London.

SILY 709- Heart of the Matter

Wise. Warrior. Dancer. Husband. Father. Musician. Murderer. Songwriter. Leader. Adulterer. Victim. Full of mercy. Crazy. Cunning. Liar. Full of pride. Humble. All of these words describe the same person. It’s a person I strive to be like, and it’s the subject of today’s story. Intrigued?

Circular History

Is the past truly fixed, or is it merely waiting for someone brave enough to rewrite it? The Twilight Zone loved toying with the idea that time itself might bend for the right person, and few episodes explore that temptation as directly as “The Last Flight” and “No Time Like the Past.”

SILY 708- Surviving Disneyland

Walking out of Star Wars Land after the fireworks, I genuinely wondered if this was the moment we called it a night. We’d been in the parks for over twelve hours. My legs felt like they belonged to someone else and wished I’d find one of those hover chairs from Wall-E to melt into. I was ready to wave a white flag made out of a churro wrapper.

S5E11 Anomaly XB-6783746

While Chris sadly couldn’t make it to this episode, Darrell is joined by special guest Adam to discuss this emotionally heavy episode of Fringe as it winds down to its climax. With only three episodes remaining, Captain Windmark narrows in on the team after discovering that Michael is part of their plan to defeat the Observers, and the result is nothing short of, well… mindblowing.

593- Remember the Time

593- Remember the Time

I’ve realized that I get most frustrated with my kids when they are making mistakes that I made when I was their age. Sometimes it’s something involving their friends, other times it’s the way they spend their money, and sometimes it’s mistakes I see them making with their boyfriend or girlfriend. It could be any number of mistakes really. When I talk with my wife about it, I usually end up saying, “I remember the time I did that.” I want so much for each of my kids to heed my advice and not make the stupid mistakes I made. I want to spare them the pain.  But I know that’s just not the way we humans operate. To err is human is painfully true.

S3E3 The Plateau

S3E3 The Plateau

We return to the Redverse for this episode to witness quite the plateau, but fear not – this season isn’t about to plateau anytime soon! We are joined this week by our friend Erin to discuss Milo Stanfield and how his ability seems to be the precursor to what the Observers do. We also talk about Olivia and how her true self is beginning to breach through the Fauxlivia/Foelivia facade.

592- Do I Take the Bible Literally

592- Do I Take the Bible Literally

I think it’s important to make a distinction in believing the Bible is true, and that the Bible should be taken literally. What I mean is, it’s possible to believe that the Bible is inspired by God, written down under inspiration by humans, and therefore, true (or inerrant). It’s also possible to simultaneously believe that the Bible should not be taken literally. Or better said, it’s possible to simultaneously believe the Bible should not always be taken literally. Rather than taking the Bible literally at all times, I would argue that the Bible should be taken as it’s intended.

591- Monday Mailbag

591- Monday Mailbag

Today is the Monday Mailbag! In today’s episode I share contributions from Geoff, Barb, Colby, Bradley, and Andrew. Did you know that mail delivery has been around since the 1500s? In 1505, Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I established a postal system in the Empire, appointing Franz von Taxis to run it. This system, originally the Kaiserliche Reichspost, is often considered the first modern postal service in the world, which initiated a revolution in communication in Europe.

Civil War

Civil War

Nothing is civil about war, and nothing is ever as it seems in The Twilight Zone. This month we take a look at two Civil War themed episodes, “The Passerby” from season 3 and “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” from season 5. Each episode not only plays in the sandbox of Civil War themes, but also takes a look at the supernatural realm, passing through to the afterlife, family, and paying for one’s acts while on earth.
