SILY 669- Back Into the Oven

The story I told in episode 19 was based on two different visits to Chicago. I was the one with the shirt who did nothing. My 12 year old daughter, Addi, was the one who made the care package. That 12 year old girl will be 23 in less than a month, and she is not the same person she once was.

S4E16 Nothing as it Seems

Nothing is as it seems this week because it’s just the two of us – no special guest! We discuss the return of Porcupine Man from “The Transformation” and how we feel about how he is handled. We agree that it isn’t necessarily a highlight episode and we point to a scene especially that seems a bit contrived. We also voice some frustrations about the leaps in logic that this episode makes, but don’t worry, this is still Fringe, though, so we definitely also have plenty of good things to say!

SILY 668- Disorganized Progress

Who do you think of when you think of a highly organized person? Perhaps you’re like me and think of a TV or movie character like Monica Geller or Claire Dunphy. You know who doesn’t come to mind? ME! For today’s story let’s jump into the time machine and go back to the early days of my career at the bookstore.

SILY 667- Failure to Communicate

George Bernard Shaw said, “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” Communication is tricky. On one hand, we are all communicating something, verbal or non-verbal at all times. On the other hand, I think most of us have significant room to grow in this area. I think most communication issues arise not from things said, but from things unsaid.

S4E15 A Short Story About Love

We hope that you have fearless… auditory passages (?) because we are here to share a short story about love along with frequent feedbacker Eric (or Eric from Pennsylvania as you’d prefer). This was such a fun episode to record especially since we love some aspects of this episode and not so much others. We love that we get some counterbalancing feedback from Geoff (xforce11) as well as some feedback from Rory, Anna (not Torv), Erin, ShelkyBean, and Patty from Canadia!

SILY 666- Old Testament Laws Explained

For most of us, reading the Old Testament is not fun. All of those names and laws are difficult to read and are the reason many who have tried reading the Bible from cover to cover often fail once they get to Leviticus. Those books do serve a purpose, though, and today we’ll explore that. It’s a bit of a deep dive, but because the laws are so misunderstood by today’s culture, it’s important we take the time to explore this fully.

Pilot Listener Feedback

Pilot Listener Feedback

We love talking about Debris, but we also when you talk about it! Join us in our first episode centered on listener feedback, feedback that we received from some of you in response to the series premiere of Debris – including kind words from fellow GSM podcast The Blacklist Exposed and from @DebrisNews on Twitter, some audio messages from John, Barb, and Bradley, and a written email from Unabeefer! We hope that, if you haven’t already, you’ll reach out to us so that you, too, can be featured on the podcast! Read More…

Pilot Review and Breakdown

Pilot Review and Breakdown

The Debris series premiere has finally arrived, and Darrell and Chris are here to break it down for you! In this opening episode of the new sci-fi series from Joel Wyman, we find out what happens when the debris interacts with a brokenhearted mother’s grief, and we get some hints dropped about our two lead characters’ (Fiona Jones and Bryan Beneventi)’s pasts. We also, of course, discuss that shocking reveal at the end of the episode and speculate what it could mean for the relationship between our two lead characters! Read More…

Star Wars Movies: RANKED

Star Wars Movies: RANKED

Get ready listeners, for this episode is not for the faint of heart. Blake and JJ decided to rank every Star Wars movie this week, and we did not have the same results. We rank the Star Wars movies from beginning from the bottom at 11 and going all the way up to our number 1, while discussing why we placed the movie where we did, using a Google Sheet we used that ranks the movies for us by taking into account the plot, character development, music, memorable scenes, and where it is on our personal favorites list. It was very difficult to put together our rankings, and more difficult hearing each other’s rankings. Check out this very controversial Star Wars episode, and see who’s ranking you agree most with, or if you don’t agree with them at all!  Read More…

Time Travel

Time Travel

Yes, we finally got to a couple classic  episodes we aren’t crazy about. That’s ok, IMDB ratings seemed to like them more than us, but for us wasn’t clear to why the TZ that is so famous for pointing out socio-historical injustice missed the mark in the time travel episode back to the battle of Little BigHorn. Only one line in the entire script that was positive about Native Americans. Nothing about their inhumane treatment up to either of the story’s timelines. And in the other episode, it seemed too full of an incredibly accurate portrayal of a calm flight crew in a TZ sound barrier time loop, but no mention of “what if” the plane landed in the wrong time line—what then?  Read More…
