AS 66 – S4E02 – The Candidate Review

AS 66 – S4E02 – The Candidate Review

Welcome back to Arrow Squad! On the heels of Season 4 Episode 2 “The Candidate”, The Shadow, Podcast Overlord and I (Miss Ice), tear into the episode. An episode that, by all appearances, had the symptoms of Second Episoditis, but we think we exposed a few nuggets that make this episode pivotal in setting up much for the upcoming season. AS 65 – S4E1 – Green Arrow Review

It’s season 4 time! We are incredibly excited to be back at for another season of Arrow. The events of season 4 episode 1, “Green Arrow”, already give us plenty to discuss and speculate on in anticipation of a jam-packed season. We already got a crossover, we already got introduced to the Big Bad, we already plucked Olicity out of their blissful suburbia. With as much we were shown, we were given just as many questions.

Raise your hand if you thought the opening sequence was some sort of strange parallel universe created by the events at the end of The Flash last season. We all admit that this felt odd, for it being an Arrow episode and all, but at the same time it was interesting to see the contrast of Oliver and Felicity’s adjustment to suburban bliss. It seemed like Oliver was so happy, so free, that he was unable to see how bored Felicity was in that setting. Oliver has fully given himself to this life, of discovering who he is after being The Arrow. But Felicity didn’t have that same, definitive end to her involvement with Team Arrow, so it’s easier for me to see why their mindsets are so different. Read more…

AS 64 – Arrow Season 4 Theories & Speculation

We’re almost there! With one week left before the season premiere of Arrow, we present you with another very unconventional podcast that is all about our theories and speculation leading into the new season. But not just our theories, because this episode was recorded LIVE using an awesome new social media tool called Blab. Blab allowed us the opportunity to bring on a variety of guests, familiar and unfamiliar, to provide insight and expertise.

This method of recording the podcast was undoubtedly an experiment. We’ve never done a live show for Arrow Squad, but Golden Spiral Media does many of their shows live (Falling Skies and Person of Interest, to name two). Blab is an interesting, and slightly unpredictable, tool but it certainly seems to provide us with all of the elements we need to interact with you and for you to watch us record. It likely won’t be a weekly thing, but we are interested to know your reaction. Read more…

AS 63 – Is Happiness Overrated? An Arrow Fan Panel at DragonCon

Is happiness overrated? You be the judge! Our very own Podcast Overlord (Kevin Bachelder), Angela Pritchett, Kevin Eldridge, Ryan Guthrie, and Nathan Laws lead us through the mire of discussing the character development and arcs of our beloved show in order to anticipate what has yet to come. This is a fan panel, the likes of which can only be found at DragonCon! Read more…

AS 62 – Live from DragonCon Part 2

Happy Superhero Friday, Arrow Squad! It is our pleasure to bring you the second, and final, installment of Live from DragonCon! In this episode of Arrow Squad, we managed to pry Podcast Overlord from his mob of adoring fans, sneak him to an undisclosed location, and sit him behind the microphone for just long enough to talk Arrow. Other featured voices in this podcast episode are Jess (Harley Quinn) and Martin (The Flash), whose voices you will recognize, undoubtedly, from Part 1.

Many, many wonderful things went down at DragonCon! Kevin, the Podcast Overlord, wins the prize for most panels attended amongst the rest of us. But it yielded fruitful results! Kevin provided us with the audio to the Arrow fan panel he was a panelist for on Monday of the Con. With him on the panel are Angela Pritchett, Kevin Eldridge, Ryan Guthrie, and Nathan Laws. AS 61 – Live from Dragon Con Part 1

Do we have a treat for you, Arrow Squad! Well, the tastiness of the treat will be up to your own determination, and just how easily your funny bone can be tickled. Truth be told, this episode of Arrow Squad, live and unscripted from DragonCon, is a bunch of friends sitting down after a long day, flipping on the mic, and talking about our experience. By the time we finally turned on the mic we’d attended the “Stephen Amell Live” panel (where–not to brag–we were the first to see the season 4 trailer) and a Flash panel. Everyone but me (Miss Ice) attended that evening’s Arrow panel, too. We had a lot to react to!

For those of you who have never been to DragonCon, or to any con, I believe we spend more time in the next episode talking about the con experience. This episode is a lot about breaking down the Arrow season 4 trailer, sharing some laughs, and me freaking out at the end because I’m late to meet a friend to get back to our hotel! Or maybe Brian cut that out, since, you know, he’s always slicing out my tangents. Heh heh. What I wish he would have done was cut out all of his horrible Felicity theories! Read more…

AS 60 – CCU/Arrow Squad Superhero Roundtable

AS 60 – CCU/Arrow Squad Superhero Roundtable

Presenting…. The Central City Arrow Under Squad Ground! Or something. It’s the first Superhero Roundtable! The first of many, hopefully, because we had a fantastic time chatting with Tony (The Director) and Joe (Joey Shakespeare) about the conjoined DC Comics universe! Tony has a great background in DC Comics, having grown up reading them, and Joe’s knowledge of The Flash comics lend extremely well to this discussion. Particularly interesting were their theories on a potential multiverse on season two of The Flash and how that might come into play in the broader television universe.

We don’t just stick to the television universe, either. Though The Flash and Arrow are the center points for our conversation, we jump from comics to the cinematic universe to comic con as well. We touch on the actors chosen for popular DC roles in the cinematic universe, talk about the differences between Marvel and DC’s approach to developing a broader universe, and speculate on what’s to come from both. Hopefully we cover enough ground to satiate the deepening void that our favorite shows have left in our hearts. Read more…

AS 59 – Arrow At DragonCon | Interview With Kelley Harkins

AS 59 – Arrow At DragonCon | Interview With Kelley Harkins

News about Arrow seems to be flowing like a faucet this summer as we get closer and closer to season 4. The excitement, and hope, of what is still to come in the next season is exactly the fuel we need to propel us into DragonCon over Labor Day weekend and tide us over until the early October premiere of our beloved show. In preparation for the iconic Con down in Atlanta, we had the amazing opportunity of sitting down with Kelley Harkins, the track director for American Scifi and Fantasy Media at DragonCon.

As you will learn by listening to the podcast, this track encompasses a lot of topics. Most importantly, it encompasses Arrow and The Flash and as an avid fan of both, Kelley dishes on her insider knowledge of the panels going on at DragonCon 2015. From fan discussion panels to guest panels, we get a much better idea of what is to come not only for Arrow and The Flash, but for the wider sci-fi and fantasy fan. Read more…

AS 58 – San Diego Comic Con Arrow News | Arrow Squad Guest Hosts

Welcome back, Arrow Squad! It is our pleasure to be back this week with the first round of listener guest hosts, Martin (aka The Flash) and Justina (aka The Green Butterfly). San Diego Comic Con happened last week (July 9-12, 2015) and we decided it was time to have another conversation. If you’re looking to steer clear of season 4 spoilers before the premiere of Arrow in October, this might not be the podcast episode to listen to. We discuss a blend of general season 3 highlights and lowlights with our guests and then move into discussion about some of the factoids we got from Comic Con! Read more…

AS 57 – Reflections & Summer News

Happy Summer Arrow Squad! Podcast Overlord, The Shadow and myself, Miss Ice, hop behind the mic for the first installment of Arrow Squad’s summer programming. Because we haven’t met certain milestones on Patreon, we cannot commit to a weekly summer podcast, but we are excited to bring you episodes here and there when we find some fun content to talk about. Our first objective is reflection! The finale aired five weeks ago, and now, with the summer sun beating down on our backs, we look back and offer some reflection and summer news. Read more…
