SILY 716- The Marketing Myth

We all have a story we tell ourselves about who we are and what we’re capable of. Or what we’re NOT capable of.  Mine started with a bad coworker and calcified over a decade into something I never questioned again, until I was faced with a situation that forced me to look at myself with fresh eyes. Today’s episode is about the slow, quiet way we talk ourselves out of skills we’re fully capable of learning, and what it finally took to prove myself wrong. If you’ve ever believed “that’s just not me,” you’re going to want to hear how this one turned out.

TSTP 96- A Haunting in Hawkins

A petty robbery at the Palace Arcade, a missing town delinquent and a field of eerie bioluminescent flowers blooming in the dead of winter. Something is definitely haunting Hawkins again. Join us as we kick off coverage of Season 2 of Tales From ’85, diving into the premiere episode set during a Valentine’s Day-themed February 1985.

SILY 715- Climbing the Hill

It’s been said that a manual transmission is basically an anti-theft device these days. And it turns out, learning to drive one taught me way more than just how to work a clutch. It took three different people, a driveway full of stalled engines, and one very specific hill in my hometown to teach me something about frustration, trust, and what it really looks like to help someone else find their way. Stick around, because today’s lesson might just change how you show up for the people you love.

SILY 714- Church of the Hygienist

It’s funny how your mind wanders when you’re sitting in a reclined position with sharp instruments and hands cramped in your mouth, loading your taste buds with the flavor of latex. I was recently at the dentist for my regular cleaning, and that experience helped me process today’s story. What I have for you is most certainly more enjoyable than a trip to the dentist.

S5E14 An Enemy of Fate

This is the end, cortexifriends! This has been such a rewarding journey for us, and we have heard so many of your beautiful stories over the years sharing with us your appreciation not only for Fringe as a series but also for us as a podcast, and it’s why we’ve done it. We kick things off with a really insightful conversation with Thomas Cadrot

Mistaken Identity

How securely anchored is your sense of self when the people who know you best suddenly refuse to recognize you? The Twilight Zone asks that question twice over, following two very different men who wake up unsure which version of their life is real. Both episodes probe the fragile line between identity and illusion, exploring how quickly the world you built for yourself can unravel.

CCU 31 – S1E13 – The Nuclear Man

A SOURCE IS A SOURCE

One of the things Tony and I discuss in this week’s CCU podcast is The Flash’s willingness to adhere to the source material…so long as it suits them. It’s a tricky road to walk (run?), but the writing team has learned to navigate it masterfully.

For several years in the early 2000s, I dove into the Flash comics like they were a refreshing pool and I was on fire. Geoff Johns focused on the men behind the masks. The Flash was ancillary to Wally West, a mechanic w/ Keystone City’s police force. He loved hockey, his wife, and his city. Captain Cold would set down his cold gun, remove his parka, and become Leonard Snart…a coffee-drinking weisenheimer with a fierce, if unique, moral code and equally fierce loyalty to his friends. He also loved hockey. Read more…

239- Grey Poupon and Junior Prom

I remember in 1996 when we first got the internet in my home. Of course, it was nothing like today. Many of you can remember receiving the AOL discs in the mail, popping them into the CD drive, loading them up for the first time, and waiting for that agonizingly long dial-up ring tone. I’m sure that many of you, like me, have that tone endlessly etched in your head. Read More…

238- The Routine of Creativity

238- The Routine of Creativity

The mind is an amazing machine. It loves routines. It loves efficiency. It loves repetitive tasks that it can do over and over. That’s how you can accomplish so many tasks throughout your day without really thinking about them. Some call it multitasking. However, when you break out and veer away of those routines you are in effect, giving your mind a stressful workout. This requires more concentration, more energy and more time, which can be mentally exhausting. Your mind prefers the repetitive tasks that allow it to refuel and get ready for the next time you break from your routines. Read More…
