SILY 715- Climbing the Hill

It’s been said that a manual transmission is basically an anti-theft device these days. And it turns out, learning to drive one taught me way more than just how to work a clutch. It took three different people, a driveway full of stalled engines, and one very specific hill in my hometown to teach me something about frustration, trust, and what it really looks like to help someone else find their way. Stick around, because today’s lesson might just change how you show up for the people you love.

SILY 714- Church of the Hygienist

It’s funny how your mind wanders when you’re sitting in a reclined position with sharp instruments and hands cramped in your mouth, loading your taste buds with the flavor of latex. I was recently at the dentist for my regular cleaning, and that experience helped me process today’s story. What I have for you is most certainly more enjoyable than a trip to the dentist.

S5E14 An Enemy of Fate

This is the end, cortexifriends! This has been such a rewarding journey for us, and we have heard so many of your beautiful stories over the years sharing with us your appreciation not only for Fringe as a series but also for us as a podcast, and it’s why we’ve done it. We kick things off with a really insightful conversation with Thomas Cadrot

Mistaken Identity

How securely anchored is your sense of self when the people who know you best suddenly refuse to recognize you? The Twilight Zone asks that question twice over, following two very different men who wake up unsure which version of their life is real. Both episodes probe the fragile line between identity and illusion, exploring how quickly the world you built for yourself can unravel.

SILY 713- Monday Mailbag

It’s the fifth Monday of August, and that means it’s Monday Mailbag day! We have one piece of mail in the bag this time and it comes in from Jeff.

SILY 712- A Noodle Story

You never get a second chance to make a first impression, which means that we often put pressure on ourselves when we’re meeting someone for the first time that we consider important. And sometimes that person feels the exact same pressure about meeting you. Today’s story is about one of those encounters, and everything that’s happened since.

177- Thankful For My Clients

Welcome to Stuff I Learned Yesterday. My name is Darrell Darnell, I hate shoes that have a pull loop on the heel, and I believe that if you aren’t learning, you aren’t living. In today’s episode of...

342- Part Of A Community

How am I supposed to follow what Darrell put out yesterday? That was such an emotional episode that I almost thought about hanging up my hat and saying, that’s it, I’m done, because it’s all downhill from there. I know this is not a competition between the two of us but if it was, then Darrell just blew me out of the water. I mean he made me cry. Read More…

DB 202-Don’t Blink Episode 202-The Witch’s Familiar Review

Join us this week for Sonic Sunglasses, a new Genesis, and an Emperor’s throne room as we discuss the conclusion to the wonderful season nine premier of Doctor Who, The Witch’s Familiar.

In this episode of Don’t Blink we discuss our Doctor without hope but always a cup of tea. A great dynamic between characters is given to us in two simultaneous dialogues with one delightfully deplorable combination at the conclusion. We didn’t catch any towels, but we definitely caught the meaning of life in this episode, listen to hear more! Read More…

341- The Arrival of White Tulips

Today’s story is unique in a lot of ways. It’s a story that has touched my life and my heart like no other. What’s better is that my life isn’t even close to being at the top of the list of those impacted most. It’s a story of love, comfort, and compassion. It’s a story of loss, heartbreak, and grief. Most of all, it’s a story of hope.

I’ve decided to just turn the mic on and share from my heart for this story. I’m not scripting it or typing out each word I want to say. For some reason I think this one needs to come straight from my heart. So if you’re someone that normally reads these blog posts instead of listening to each episode, I invite you to hit the play button at the top of the page. Read More…

FC 36- Best Twin Horror Movies

FC 36- Best Twin Horror Movies

For whatever reason, filmmakers and moviegoers alike seem to find twins inherently creepy. Would The Shining have been as menacing if it were just another child trying to lure Danny to his death? No – for some reason what’s particularly terrifying is the image of those two identical girls waving and beckoning, “Come play with us, Danny…”

It’s as if they’ve conspired. You’re outnumbered. There’s the idea that they’re doppelgangers able to fool the rest of us, that or they are two half beings unable to live without the other and yet perhaps quietly desperate to try.

We’ve enlisted the help of Senior Twin Correspondent Joy Madden (she’s Hope’s evil twin, FYI) to puzzle through the best in twin horror. Unlike The Shining, though, twins are the centerpiece of these films and it is their very twin-ness that drives the story. Read More…
