SILY 716- The Marketing Myth

We all have a story we tell ourselves about who we are and what we’re capable of. Or what we’re NOT capable of.  Mine started with a bad coworker and calcified over a decade into something I never questioned again, until I was faced with a situation that forced me to look at myself with fresh eyes. Today’s episode is about the slow, quiet way we talk ourselves out of skills we’re fully capable of learning, and what it finally took to prove myself wrong. If you’ve ever believed “that’s just not me,” you’re going to want to hear how this one turned out.

TSTP 96- A Haunting in Hawkins

A petty robbery at the Palace Arcade, a missing town delinquent and a field of eerie bioluminescent flowers blooming in the dead of winter. Something is definitely haunting Hawkins again. Join us as we kick off coverage of Season 2 of Tales From ’85, diving into the premiere episode set during a Valentine’s Day-themed February 1985.

SILY 715- Climbing the Hill

It’s been said that a manual transmission is basically an anti-theft device these days. And it turns out, learning to drive one taught me way more than just how to work a clutch. It took three different people, a driveway full of stalled engines, and one very specific hill in my hometown to teach me something about frustration, trust, and what it really looks like to help someone else find their way. Stick around, because today’s lesson might just change how you show up for the people you love.

SILY 714- Church of the Hygienist

It’s funny how your mind wanders when you’re sitting in a reclined position with sharp instruments and hands cramped in your mouth, loading your taste buds with the flavor of latex. I was recently at the dentist for my regular cleaning, and that experience helped me process today’s story. What I have for you is most certainly more enjoyable than a trip to the dentist.

S5E14 An Enemy of Fate

This is the end, cortexifriends! This has been such a rewarding journey for us, and we have heard so many of your beautiful stories over the years sharing with us your appreciation not only for Fringe as a series but also for us as a podcast, and it’s why we’ve done it. We kick things off with a really insightful conversation with Thomas Cadrot

Mistaken Identity

How securely anchored is your sense of self when the people who know you best suddenly refuse to recognize you? The Twilight Zone asks that question twice over, following two very different men who wake up unsure which version of their life is real. Both episodes probe the fragile line between identity and illusion, exploring how quickly the world you built for yourself can unravel.

BC 13-Berserker Cast Episode 13-Space Oddity Review

BC 13-Berserker Cast Episode 13-Space Oddity Review

In episode 13 of Berserker Cast we talk about the penultimate season 4 episode “Space Oddity” which consists of Lexi’s plea to take Ben’s place on the mission to the moon with Tom. We discuss our perceptions of Lexi, whether we believe her or not, and how that ebbed and flowed as the episode went on. Did you find it easy or difficult to trust Lexi?

Despite being rather relaxed on the action front, this episode helped to really draw out the human in Lexi and reveal the scared little girl inside of her that was finally yearning for her father. As she begins to understand what it means to be human, she begins to change and behave differently and even become a daughter to her father. Watching that relationship develop was certainly one of our favorite parts of the episode. Read more…

123- Decision Filter

Previously on SILY. Haha, I just wanted to hear myself say that.

But for real, on yesterday’s episode, episode 122, Darrell asked two great questions that I’m going to reply to.

Well okay, one statement that I’ll reply to and one question that I’ll answer.

Statement: Just because an opportunity is a good one doesn’t make it the right one.
Question: What are you doing that is keeping you from reaching your goals? Listen to this episode and read more…

122- Overloaded By Opportunity

I know I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating over and over again. It is tremendously important to surround yourself with the right people. I have a group of people that I can go to any time I need valuable insight, I’m trying to make an important business decision, or need to be held accountable for something. I’m a part of two mastermind groups and many of these trusted friends are part of those masterminds.

One of those people is Derek. I met Derek for the first time just over a year ago and since that time he’s become a very trusted friend. I first met his wife Carrie when I started looking for hosts to fill out the roster for TV Talk. Carrie and Derek both hosted several shows, and even hosted one show together. Carrie’s first TV Talk show was The Walking Dead that she hosted with Tim Arthur. By the way, Tim is now one of the hosts of our upcoming Gotham podcast.

We’ve had quite a few requests for us to host a podcast for The Walking Dead, so I approached Derek and Carrie to see if they’d be interested in hosting it. Derek and Carrie obviously know what we’re all about here at Golden Spiral Media. Derek obviously hosts this podcast on Wednesdays and I knew they’d be a good fit for Golden Spiral Media. Read More…

121- Row, Row, Row Your Boat

121- Row, Row, Row Your Boat

That’s right, I studied a boat oar. I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that I must have the most boring life ever if I spend time studying boat oars. Well, here’s the story.

A few years ago my pastor began kayaking. Not me. I went with him once. I had a good time and would love to go again, but I don’t really have a desire to do it regularly. However, he’s really in to it. One of the cool things we have here in Oklahoma City is a world class boating facility. A few years ago we voted to dam up the Oklahoma River that runs through the downtown Oklahoma City area and create what we now call the boathouse district.

We have rowing competitions here and even have Olympians from all around the world come here to train. We’re currently adding a white water rapids course and some other improvements. As you can imagine, more and more people in our area are discovering the fun that can be had in various types of row boats. Read More…

WHTGB 58-Happily Ever After and Everybody Loves Hugo

WHTGB 58-Happily Ever After and Everybody Loves Hugo

In episode 58 we take a look at LOST season 6 episode 11, “Happily Ever After” and season 6 episode 12, “Everybody Loves Hugo.” For those of us who can’t get enough Desmond and Penny (or Charlie), “Happily Ever After” gives us all the stuff we love. Desmond’s life in the flash sideways is dramatically different from the life we’ve seen until Charlie takes control and helps wake Desmond up. Along the way Desmond encounters Charles Widmore, Eloise Hawking, and Daniel Faraday. On island, Desmond is subjected to an electromagnetic experiment by Charles Widmore.

In “Everybody Loves Hugo,” Hurley takes the lead after Ilana’s death. He leads the beach team to the Black Rock and then to an encounter with the Man in Black. In the flash sideways, Hurley is a wealthy business owner and philanthropist, known the world over for his generosity. When a blind date fails to show up, he has a chance encounter with Libby. Intrigued by their encounter, he asks her out on a date and is awakened when they kiss. Read More…
