SILY 716- The Marketing Myth

We all have a story we tell ourselves about who we are and what we’re capable of. Or what we’re NOT capable of.  Mine started with a bad coworker and calcified over a decade into something I never questioned again, until I was faced with a situation that forced me to look at myself with fresh eyes. Today’s episode is about the slow, quiet way we talk ourselves out of skills we’re fully capable of learning, and what it finally took to prove myself wrong. If you’ve ever believed “that’s just not me,” you’re going to want to hear how this one turned out.

TSTP 96- A Haunting in Hawkins

A petty robbery at the Palace Arcade, a missing town delinquent and a field of eerie bioluminescent flowers blooming in the dead of winter. Something is definitely haunting Hawkins again. Join us as we kick off coverage of Season 2 of Tales From ’85, diving into the premiere episode set during a Valentine’s Day-themed February 1985.

SILY 715- Climbing the Hill

It’s been said that a manual transmission is basically an anti-theft device these days. And it turns out, learning to drive one taught me way more than just how to work a clutch. It took three different people, a driveway full of stalled engines, and one very specific hill in my hometown to teach me something about frustration, trust, and what it really looks like to help someone else find their way. Stick around, because today’s lesson might just change how you show up for the people you love.

SILY 714- Church of the Hygienist

It’s funny how your mind wanders when you’re sitting in a reclined position with sharp instruments and hands cramped in your mouth, loading your taste buds with the flavor of latex. I was recently at the dentist for my regular cleaning, and that experience helped me process today’s story. What I have for you is most certainly more enjoyable than a trip to the dentist.

S5E14 An Enemy of Fate

This is the end, cortexifriends! This has been such a rewarding journey for us, and we have heard so many of your beautiful stories over the years sharing with us your appreciation not only for Fringe as a series but also for us as a podcast, and it’s why we’ve done it. We kick things off with a really insightful conversation with Thomas Cadrot

Mistaken Identity

How securely anchored is your sense of self when the people who know you best suddenly refuse to recognize you? The Twilight Zone asks that question twice over, following two very different men who wake up unsure which version of their life is real. Both episodes probe the fragile line between identity and illusion, exploring how quickly the world you built for yourself can unravel.

178- The Treehouse

In 2005 when we build our new home on the outskirts of town an idea struck me that would push my kids to want to spend more time outside. My son was 9 years old and my daughter was 6. With so many trees in our yard wouldn’t it be wonderful to build them a treehouse to play and have their own adventures in. Read More…

177- Thankful For My Clients

In September of 1994 I was hired as a part-time cashier for a local bookstore chain. Nineteen years later I left that chain having worn many hats along the way. I was a cashier, stocker, department head, key carrier, assistant manager, store manager, buyer, co-manager, internet sales coordinator, internet sales manager, and director of ecommerce.

No matter what my title was, my job was essentially always the same. That is, my job was to serve others. I served customer, co-workers, bosses, suppliers, and vendors. I served those who worked above me, beside me, and below me.

Despite what others may say, entrepreneurs do not work for themselves. Entrepreneurs, at least the successful one, work for others. Read More…

TDYK 04-The Devil You Know Episode 04-A Feast of Friends Review

I write this from my car, where I sit waiting for Tony to get home so we can record our podcast. My electric seat warmers are the only thing keeping me alive. Well, that…and how much I liked this week’s episode of Constantine.

A Feast of Friends, you were a treat. Damn near lifted entirely from the comic. Gaz, the hunger demon that was his downfall…a great ep from a great issue. To me, this is a huge move in the right direction. The show continues to get darker, all the while veering closer to the source material. It’s that kind of honor to the books that’s gonna keep fans of John Constantine happy and keep the show on track. Sure I was sad to not see Papa Midnite (he’s in this story arc in the comic), but Doctor Mist?! They brought in Doctor Mist?! Sure, he’s an obscure DC character I’m entirely unfamiliar with, but I still love the nod to the greater hero community. I mean, the only thing that could make this better was if Jim Corrigan were to appear in the next episode! Oh wait… Read More…
