SILY 716- The Marketing Myth

We all have a story we tell ourselves about who we are and what we’re capable of. Or what we’re NOT capable of.  Mine started with a bad coworker and calcified over a decade into something I never questioned again, until I was faced with a situation that forced me to look at myself with fresh eyes. Today’s episode is about the slow, quiet way we talk ourselves out of skills we’re fully capable of learning, and what it finally took to prove myself wrong. If you’ve ever believed “that’s just not me,” you’re going to want to hear how this one turned out.

TSTP 96- A Haunting in Hawkins

A petty robbery at the Palace Arcade, a missing town delinquent and a field of eerie bioluminescent flowers blooming in the dead of winter. Something is definitely haunting Hawkins again. Join us as we kick off coverage of Season 2 of Tales From ’85, diving into the premiere episode set during a Valentine’s Day-themed February 1985.

SILY 715- Climbing the Hill

It’s been said that a manual transmission is basically an anti-theft device these days. And it turns out, learning to drive one taught me way more than just how to work a clutch. It took three different people, a driveway full of stalled engines, and one very specific hill in my hometown to teach me something about frustration, trust, and what it really looks like to help someone else find their way. Stick around, because today’s lesson might just change how you show up for the people you love.

SILY 714- Church of the Hygienist

It’s funny how your mind wanders when you’re sitting in a reclined position with sharp instruments and hands cramped in your mouth, loading your taste buds with the flavor of latex. I was recently at the dentist for my regular cleaning, and that experience helped me process today’s story. What I have for you is most certainly more enjoyable than a trip to the dentist.

S5E14 An Enemy of Fate

This is the end, cortexifriends! This has been such a rewarding journey for us, and we have heard so many of your beautiful stories over the years sharing with us your appreciation not only for Fringe as a series but also for us as a podcast, and it’s why we’ve done it. We kick things off with a really insightful conversation with Thomas Cadrot

Mistaken Identity

How securely anchored is your sense of self when the people who know you best suddenly refuse to recognize you? The Twilight Zone asks that question twice over, following two very different men who wake up unsure which version of their life is real. Both episodes probe the fragile line between identity and illusion, exploring how quickly the world you built for yourself can unravel.

147- Inspired By Remembrance

I have a confession to make. I’m making this episode up as I write. Yes, I normally write out each of these episodes and record my reading of them. Before I put fingers to my keyboard, I typically have a mental outline of where I want to take the story. Not today. I thought I did. But then that outline was abandoned.

I had what I thought was a pretty good angle on the attack on Pearl Harbor, the ensuing US involvement in WWII, the bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the rebuilding of Japan after the war. However, I decided that there were a lot of things about those events that I don’t know so it would be good for me to do some research first. That research led to more research, which led to more research, which led to even more research. For nearly three hours now I’ve been reading articles looking at photographs, and watching videos. Here’s what I learned: There are a lot of complex, controversial, and debated issues within these topics. Read More…

146 -Don’t Honk if You Love Hawaii

We are a busy people. Life fills up with stuff and overflows with the rush of going from place to place, responsibility to responsibility. It’s difficult to find a time of peace and quiet. When I was a kid I would watch reruns of the Andy Griffith Show. I don’t know if life ever was truly that simple, but I’d like to think it was.

Before we headed out for our Hawaiian vacation, I spent some time researching various things about Hawaii in general and Oahu, the island we would be on. I came across an article from the Huffington Post called “11 Things That Are Weirdly Missing In Hawaii…And What They Can Teach You.” Here’s a brief rundown of the 11 things. Read More…
