SILY 714- Church of the Hygienist

It’s funny how your mind wanders when you’re sitting in a reclined position with sharp instruments and hands cramped in your mouth, loading your taste buds with the flavor of latex. I was recently at the dentist for my regular cleaning, and that experience helped me process today’s story. What I have for you is most certainly more enjoyable than a trip to the dentist.

S5E14 An Enemy of Fate

This is the end, cortexifriends! This has been such a rewarding journey for us, and we have heard so many of your beautiful stories over the years sharing with us your appreciation not only for Fringe as a series but also for us as a podcast, and it’s why we’ve done it. We kick things off with a really insightful conversation with Thomas Cadrot

Mistaken Identity

How securely anchored is your sense of self when the people who know you best suddenly refuse to recognize you? The Twilight Zone asks that question twice over, following two very different men who wake up unsure which version of their life is real. Both episodes probe the fragile line between identity and illusion, exploring how quickly the world you built for yourself can unravel.

SILY 713- Monday Mailbag

It’s the fifth Monday of August, and that means it’s Monday Mailbag day! We have one piece of mail in the bag this time and it comes in from Jeff.

SILY 712- A Noodle Story

You never get a second chance to make a first impression, which means that we often put pressure on ourselves when we’re meeting someone for the first time that we consider important. And sometimes that person feels the exact same pressure about meeting you. Today’s story is about one of those encounters, and everything that’s happened since.

S5E13 Liberty

We are now, in every sense (technically, literally, etc.), on the ultimate penultimate episode of Fringe as we bring you “Liberty” AND soon to be death of the podcast. We are joined by special guest Marianne once again as we discuss this amazing episode of the series and its parallels to previous seasons and episodes.

475- Knock, Knock, Who’s There?

475- Knock, Knock, Who’s There?

I became a door-to-door salesman in April of this year. The investment firm that I joined believes the key to success is getting yourself in front of as many people as possible and using the law of averages ideally you’re going to gain clients directly proportional to how hard you get after meeting and being with people. It’s really a neat set up when you think about it. I’m essentially an entrepreneur who’s building his own business using products that are built and maintained by some of the smartest people in the industry. My job is build relationships, fit the product to the client, and keep the relationship concentrating on the long-term goal of what investing can do. There are plenty of statistics that show if you continually build your savings and use the gift of compounding interest that anyone can be a successful investor. The trick is not panicking when the economy goes through its typical tumbles and stumbles. The key to building and maintaining a successful practice is sales. Read More…

Welcome to Stuff I Learned Yesterday. 473- Recognizing Opportunity

473- Recognizing Opportunity

The was 1995. I’d been working at the bookstore for less than a year. I got the job at the bookstore with practically no effort. My grandma had been long time friends with the manager of the store and she put in a good word. When I got called in for the interview, it was really more of a question as to when I could start more than an actual job interview. The job was simple so it’s not like an in-depth interview was necessarily needed, but it was still a bit odd. I didn’t care, of course. I got the job! Read More…

FC 77- Best of George A. Romero

Today we salute a man whose career teems with ideas that have been both universal and wildly ahead of their time. There may be no horror filmmaker who’s had more of an influence on his genre than George Romero, whose political leanings and social commentary have given his inventive monster movies the relevance to stand the test of time. A great line, an original idea, and a fantastic pair of glasses – George A. Romero has it all. Here are our five favorites: Read More…
