In this weeks episode of the Quantum Leap Rewatch, Cory and Tom take a walk on the vamp side as they discuss season 5 episode 15, “Blood Moon.”

Return Module:

We found the entire Quantum Leap Soundtrack on YouTube! Have a listen, there’s some great tracks.

Blood Moon:

Sam leaps into Lord Nigel Corrington, an eccentric artist living a Gothic lifestyle, the least of which is the fact he sleeps in a coffin. While Sam is reluctant to believe that he has actually leapt into a vampire, Al is all too ready to accept it. He reports that Corrington’s new wife, a former homeless girl, now turned Lady Alexandra, is found dead the next morning with the blood drained from her body and a puncture wound on her neck.

According to history, this is the night of the Blood Moon, a night when vampires honor vampires that came before them, most notably, one of the first in recorded history, Count Bathory. Indeed, two guests arrive, Victor Drake and his companion Claudia, who were invited by Corrington to perform a ritual killing in honor of Bathory.

Sam, wishing to prevent the death, eventually decides to cancel the ceremony after Corrington’s dog is found dead, but Drake and Claudia drug Sam and Alexandra in order to make sure the ceremony continues. Sam is rescued by Corrington’s Butler, Horst, who knocks out Claudia, leaving Sam to discover her fake vampire teeth.

Sam rushes to the roof where Drake has prepared Alexandra for the final sacrifice, but Sam charges him and a bolt of lightning strike and sends Drake to his death below. Sam convinces Alexandra that she must leave and provides her a means of supporting herself. Al reports that she becomes a missionary, helping others, as Sam leaps.

Ziggy’s Data Retrieval:

Alexandra was played by Shae D’Lin. She was in “National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation” as Cousin Vicki (original movie was Jane Krakowski). She’s continually working to present day, she was most recently in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” from 2018. She’s also involved in “The National Freedom to Marry Coalition.”

The butler’s name is Horst, though IMDB lists Boris. Rod Loomis played Freud in “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure”, Zed in “Beast Master”, and Adam Banks in “Bold and the Beautiful.”

Drake is played by Ian Buchanan, whom we have seen in The Flash ‘90 episode Honor Among Thieves, playing Stan Kovacs, leader of a group of people stealing from Ted Preminger at the local museum. He was also in “Bold and the Beautiful” for 258 episodes as Dr James Warwick, and appeared in “Twin Peaks” as Dick Tremayne.

Claudia is played by Deborah Moore. She is the daughter of Bond actor, Roger Moore.

This episodes unsung hero is Robert MacKenzie, appearing in the Dr. Ruth leapout. He’s had a handful of other roles but no major ones.

Kiss With History:

Count Bathory is technically a kiss with history, although really we should say Countess Bathory. SHE was a Hungarian noblewoman and alleged serial killer from the noble family of Báthory, who owned land in the Kingdom of Hungary (now Hungary, Slovakia and Romania). She has been labeled by Guinness World Records as the most prolific female murderer, though the precise number of her victims is debated.

Whats Next?

Next week, Cory & Tom will be discussing the 2 part special, “Return of the Evil Leaper” & “Revenge of the Evil Leaper.”
