[sc:astop]In this year’s four-show crossover, all of our heroes come together for a wedding, but find themselves facing off against the most evil villain yet. With not only our world, but other universes on the line, the the largest team yet of heroes, superheroes, and more band together and go to war. On our podcast this week, we discuss this crossover, with a focus on the journey of the Arrow characters throughout.
This fall and spring Arrow (other than this week’s crossover) will be airing on a NEW night on Thursdays at 8pm ET. Our podcast episodes will be posted the following Saturday/Sunday, so we can accept email/voice feedback through Friday night – and maybe an early Saturday morning submission might make it in if you’re quick. 🙂

It really was a true crossover this year because as Flash said everyone was mixed in all the shows versus having a “Flash” hour or “Arrow” hour; I get last year “Arrow” wanted their own hour for the 100th episode and that’s fair, but because if it and “Supergirl” not really being the start it didn’t feel as smooth as this and unlike with previous duo crossovers (Flarrow or SuperFlash) this actually affected all the shows – LEGENDS more than the rest but still all are going to be affected on a level and that’s how a crossover should be. It’s definitely the best full group crossover they’ve done so far!
Flash off the rails – this should be fun! 🙂
The crossover was definitely better than “Justice League”; it’s hard to fault JL completely as it’s not the true version the director wanted to release (they made them cut the time down), but comparing presented finish products the crossover is better. Cammie I’d say save your money for the director cut DVD or try to find cheap tickets because while there are good parts to JL overall it wasn’t the full potential on screen.
While I did enjoy the crossover I did think some characters were just kind of there after seeing the whole thing; for example, Mick is great with comedy but sadly that’s all he was in this and could have arguably been replaced by another Legend because they want to have at least 2 members from each show there to feel like the show is really represented. Also while I loved seeing Sara fight and deliver one important line, which I will touch in later, I did feel like she was more there for Alex’s story of progression than necessarily having her own plot in this episode – it would have helped to see Sara interact with others such as saying “Hi” to Oliver and Felicity or checking on her crew versus staying mainly with Alex who at least thankfully got some scenes with Kara so her time didn’t feel one dimensional. That said where was Barry geeking out over Alex, he’d waited 2 years to meet him and all we get is him again asking Kara about her? As stated the Arrow squad also felt flat after they jumped in to stop evil Oliver at the Labs; overall I enjoyed handling and I get it was hard enough balancing everyone but if I could change one thing it would probably be I wish the crossover was a hour longer so everyone could interact more.
Color me shocked, they hinted at Nyssa in the “Flash” portion! See how easy it is to do “Legends Of Tomorrow”; also GO BACK TO HER SARA it’s not hard to do! She could totally still be a Legend and be exclusive with Nyssa.
Don’t tease like that Cammie; I’m a definite YES for Dinah leaving a mission with Felicity going Overwatch!
I wonder if Tommy as Prometheus was a nod to fan theories from last year?
I have to say I’m a little surprised you didn’t pick the Olicity wedding as your favorite moment Cammie, but I do love your selection – Felicity standing up to the bad guys was great!
I’m voting in order evil Quentin, his speech to Sara made me want to throw up at it’s evil, evil Kara, because she portrayed evil well, and Thawn, because he was evil but hung in the background more than them, as my top bad guys for the crossover! Evil Oliver was just normal Oliver but more broody so honestly while I wanted him taken out as much as the others he didn’t feel as scary as them. All of them were scary simply because of the WWII ties, but he just seemed more broody which isn’t necessarily evil than the others who said to character’s faces the evil they thought. Maybe it’s just me but I’d rank Oliver-X under the others; he felt like a high up solider versus leading like the rest.
The hardest scenes for me to watch were first the opening to “Flash”‘s time slot where they hinted to the audience what the triangle meant and showed the stars…remembering history lessons and seeing the characters looks and then the best with evil Quentin – that was the scariest moment for me, that was heavy for sure; the second was Felicity’s reaction during Wells’s explanation of Earth-X and watching her get threatened by Thawn because after the Damien Dark chamber stuff last season I don’t want to see Felicity live that history, she knows it and knows it’s bad. They were very realistically done moments but they were definitely the “this feels like too much for me” moments. I do appreciate the writers being brave enough to go there with scenes like this and not completely babying the imagery/dialogue because sadly the only way some people can see the true effects is to have moments like this since hopefully no one will ever have to personally experience them again.
I wish the “Arrow” writers would take the fights from this crossover and include them in their fight pack because FINALLY bad guys shoot at Oliver instead of waiting to take him on one by one!!!
Points to Cammie for the “Orphan Black” reference! 🙂
Is letting enemies go a Barry thing because WHAT THE CRAP DUDE?!
Kara totally would have killed Overgirl had it reached that point; it’s definitely a misconception that Kara doesn’t kill like Clark, I would love to see this addressed more on “Supergirl” also because while it’s certainly a last resort for her if that’s the only option Kara will kill a villain where as Clark might be more like Barry and let them go. It doesn’t make her an instant bad guy for it, she’s still a hero like Superman or any of the other good guys; I get you could argue what’s more good letting them go or killing them, but as a whole Kara is still as much a good guy as the others. She doesn’t like killing, it’s not her go to move like other heroes, but she’ll do it if she has to and it’s one of those differences between she and Clark which shows they are similar yes but they’re not the same person.
I agree I bawled at Stein’s death, Victor killed those scenes for lack of a better term; I especially lost it when Stein’s wife fell into Jax and we saw him cry then his daughter came and was crying…just such an emotional moment which I’m happy took place in the LEGENDS hour because even though I don’t watch the show really it would have felt wrong had this occurred in a different hour of the crossover. While it’s sad to see Stein go I do like that he got shot because there’s no way the heroes dodge all those bullets – they have to have scraps where they whizzed by or debris strike marks or maybe even non life ending shots they don’t feel because of adrenaline in the moment…at the least bullet holes in some of the costumes; it added to the realism and drama of that scene.
Maybe Diggle sat this one out because of his arm being injured? Had he shown up he arguably would have been more of a liability than not so they saved him for the end so he’s in it but he’s not in danger because we just saw that on “Arrow” recently.
I AGREE just do “Arrow” but with married Olicity and save the drama for other plots because if they get divorced at this point it’s going to feel like why should fans even care about their romance given the second we get happy it’s just going to end so why not save ourselves that pain. You can have drama happen around them such as helping the team with personal stuff or how do they deal with William maybe thinking it’s too fast without them being the drama; even if you feel you need them for the drama you can have them fight without splitting them up.
It’ll be interesting to see how they work the DVDs because while it would be cool to have the crossover as a bonus feature on each show’s season DVD I doubt they’ll do it given it’s 3 extra hours to add for each instead of one when it’s just two shows crossing over. The best option would be as you both said to package it as a four hour movie of its own with extras. I wonder if they’ll even have it as a DVD or will they keep it sectioned out in order to make fans buy four DVD sets or watch it online to help the site counter? Business wise it could go either way as with a solo DVD release gets you cash also but granted not as much as saling four DVDs but having an exclusive for your site for a bit gets you numbers there; I hope they’ll go DVD but last year’s wasn’t included so I don’t know. The best option is solo DVD for like $20 because that’s movie DVD equality pricing and this was a movie event as they claimed.
Snart and The Ray were cute. 🙂
I personally didn’t mind the double wedding; I fully get why some fans are mad though because after all you go through with a pairing you want them to have their own moment friends of the other couple be darn, I’ve been there watching shows, but Barry/Iris got everything except the “I do” in the church and they got to be the vows for both couples essentially and there’s was done first so it didn’t feel like a complete moment steal to me. Had Barry and Iris said they were just going to go to the courthouse and finish things in a more clinical atmosphere and then Felicity jumped in for the rest of the episode time to proposed to Oliver and then Barry ran John over to marry them and then went hey while you’re here marry us I could get saying Olicity stole the spotlight but as is it worked for me. It could also be given I don’t watch “Flash” I’m not that connected to Barry/Iris so the offer to share felt realistic to me not knowing if they’ve really be okay with that move or not, but again I get fans being angry they had to share a moment like that. I’m not a fan of double weddings usually even when one of the pairings I like is getting married as well because again each deserves their own moment but this one worked because everything was about WestAllen until that last moment; yes throughout it also about Felicity suddenly not wanting to marry Oliver which was arguably just for drama even though she had a fair point about why she was nervous, but even as a causal “Flash” viewer I didn’t forget the reason they were all there was for the wedding and this was meant to be Barry’s and Iris’s day. It wasn’t a perfect start to end wedding but they got a wedding the way they wanted instead of for them having to settle for a quick courthouse signature just to say it was finished.
A cool Easter egg regarding the password Cammie; here’s another someone found – https://mobile.twitter.com/joeman999/status/936368390603792386 .
A great podcast; Flash you did well off the rails.
