[sc:wptop]Hello, SleepyHeads! This week on Witness Prophecies, we discuss Sleepy Hollow Season 3 Episode 14, entitled “Into the Wild” which originally aired on March 11, 2016. Abbie Mills confronted her monsters in the wild, both the Verslinder and her emotions, as she continued to deal with her rune symbol obsession and time in the catacombs.
It is clear that Abbie is beginning to open up, trusting more people, and sharing her emotions. We see at the outset that she has confided her fears about the rune symbol and Danny Reynold’s confession of love to her sister, Jenny. These two women have built their relationship in a very real way during the past two years, moving past their long time estrangement, and into a genuinely caring sisterhood. This week, we saw Abbie and Sophie Foster begin to move from a fledgling friendship to a partnership, as together they fought a new monster in the wild of the forest during their FBI Survival Training weekend exercise. Sophie told Abbie about the positive impact that discovering and exploring the supernatural had on her life – how she believed she would ultimately get answers about her parents deaths. Abbie felt that she had suffered personal loss and heartache, and that those around her had suffered, but by the end of their wild adventure, she realized the good that had come of her experiences, particularly meeting Ichabod Crane. This was the first time that we saw Abbie and Sophie actually working together, and I think the writers wanted us to watch them bond, as we previously saw Jenny, Joe and Sophie bond as they tried to find Abbie. Team Witness will need all hands on deck as they prepare to fight the wild creatures that Pandora is summoning to Sleepy Hollow!
Corey Castellano brought us two monsters this week – the creepy Verslinder, which seemed to be a cross between maggots and intestines, and our own wild man, Joe Corbin, who began transforming into the Wendigo again when he touched a fragment of Pandora’s box. Pandora taunted Joe, telling him that deep within himself, he was a monster, playing on his fears. Will Joe distance himself from Jenny, thinking that he could harm her or will he be the thing we think may hurt our Witnesses, but it will actually save them?
Speaking of Pandora, she had wild eyes again, flashing with anger at The Hidden One who cares only about restoring his own power. Pandora is becoming a bit “whiney” and is clearly fixated on her box and her power, and The Hidden One isn’t showing her any appreciation and love by telling her she is a failure! After all, she brought him back from the catacombs where he spent the last 4000 years!
One of the most interesting and wild discoveries this week was that the rune symbol is helping and not hurting our witnesses. Crane’s stone tablet which was retrieved from his ancestral home in the first episode of Season 3, was the perfect fit for the two rune halves, and enabled Crane to see that Abbie, his partner, his bond, needed his help immediately. So, why then did Abbie tell Danny Reynolds that she did not and never would think of Danny in the past tense?! Abbie – the shippers are upset!
History Lesson of the Week – The Founding of Rochester, New York
Nathaniel Rochester was born in Virginia, in 1752, and moved to North Carolina with his family at a young age. He was a delegate to North Carolina’s first Provincial Congress, and was appointed a Major, but ultimately resigned due to a physical breakdown. When he recovered, he was appointed a Colonel in the militia, where he was also in charge of an arms factory. He resigned again from his duties, and moved to Maryland, in 1780. He build up various businesses in the area, and in 1803, he purchased 100 acres in New York state, along the Genesee River, for about $1750. He moved his family to the area in 1810, and became a businessman and leading citizen. In 1811, he began to build his town, laying out streets and plots of land for various uses. He named the area, “Rochesterville,” which was ultimately shortened to Rochester. He died in 1831, and the inscription on his gravestone reads: “If you seek his monument, look around you.” (in Latin).
Rochester is on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, in the western portion of the state, and has been known as “The Gateway to the Northeast, Heaven’s Outpost.” The Seneca tribe of Native Americans lived in the area until about 1797. At the time of the 2010 census, it was the third largest city in New York. It was one of America’s first “boomtowns,” and originally had many flour mills along the river. By 1838 it was the largest flour producing city in the United States. In 1847, Frederick Douglass founded the abolitionist newspaper, The North Star, In Rochester, and the city was home to Susan B. Anthony. A number of new industries were founded there, including Eastman Kodak and Bausch & Lomb.
