Did you know that Dell is making a TV show? I discovered it while browsing Hulu. The title intrigued me. “What Lives Inside”. That could be just about anything. I was fascinated. I had to learn more.
The story began with Taylor, played by Colin Hanks, returning home after the death of his father. His father was a famous puppeteer who created a children’s television show. Taylor seemed disenchanted as he arrived home. His father’s career had monopolized much of his attention.
Taylor’s attention was drawn to his father’s workshop. He thought he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. When he entered the workshop everything seemed in order. Puppets and half finished projects laid neatly around the room
When he turned around Taylor discovered a small door marked knock. This took me back to Alice in Wonderland and the bottle marked “drink me”. It is human nature you are going to knock on that door. Taylor was taken aback when the door opened to reveal darkness. After he went through the door spotlights began to turn on as if by magic.
Everything was black and white and one dimensional as if the death of the master had sucked the life from this world. When Taylor came closer to look at the pictures his touch painted them in vivid color. Does the magic possessed by his father now live inside Taylor?
As a member of the generation that grew up with the Muppets I am really excited about this show. The acting is wonderful and it is cinematically beautiful. It left me on the edge of my seat wanting more. The episode was only fifteen minutes long but it was dense with a great plot and beautiful imagery.
Upon researching this project I discovered that Dell asked artists to submit art pieces. These drawings are now coming to life on the screen as characters in the show. Join me and let’s see where this fantastic journey takes us. New episodes are available exclusively on Hulu every Wednesday. The series will be available on youtube later in the year.
