In episode 7 of The Revolution Podcast, we discuss the 4th episode of Revolution titled, “The Plague Dogs.” We share our opinions on the episode, how the series is progressing, the death and backstory of Maggie and the ongoing evolution in the relationship between Charlie and Miles. We talk about the revelation that Miles knows that Rachel is alive and how Charlie might react when she finds out. We talk about the pacing of the series and how they are answering significant questions each week, and what types of things we are personally willing to over look. And, of course, we also discuss the revelation that Ben had DOD and SAP security clearance and the fact that Rachel insists he was an algebra teacher.
In our feedback portion we discuss Miles relationship with Rachel, whether or not our opinion has changed on Danny possibly joining the militia, how magnetism might be behind the blackout, Ben and Rachel’s relationship and much more.

Hey…that DEF is a bare hand, not a glove. However, there HAS to be a reason why they only shot her from the neck up in the scene after the torture. Those kinds of things don’t happen by accident.
Hi Guys,
I just wanted to leave a comment regarding why bullets would become so precious if the power went out. I actually went to a friend of mine who is knowledgeable about firearms and asked him this question when the show first aired. From what he told me, while most parts of a modern bullet can be made and assembled by hand – the one part that would pose a problem is the primer. Basically, it creates a small chemical reaction (using explosive chemicals like lead azide, potassium perchlorate, or diazodinitrophenol) that allows the bullet to fire. Even hunters and gun enthusiasts who make their own bullets need to purchase primers and without factories to make them I’d guess they’d be in a limited / finite supply.
Here’s a link to a wikipedia entry that goes into more detail on how the mechanism works. Perhaps Cliff could make a special guest appearance on the podcast and fact check the science? I’d be interested in whether my friend was correct.

Hi guys. I tried posting a comment yesterday but it never showed up. I had link in it and maybe I formatted the href tag incorrectly. I really enjoyed listening to your podcast and already look forward to the next one. I have a few comments about some things mentioned in the podcast that I thought I’d inflict upon you. Here goes..
1) The official recap on the NBC web page says Charlie was 12 (not 11) when Rachel left them. This adds one more year to the number of years Miles was in the militia and one less year the Rachel has been a captive.
2) The NBC interactive map says the Mathesons were already living in Sylvania Estates when Rachel left. Although I don’t know how much to trust the interactive map now because it also shows that Maggie tried to find a ship in Duluth, MN but the subtitle/caption seen on the show said it was Buffalo, NY. Duluth actually makes more sense for someone walking eastward from Seattle. Maybe the subtitle was wrong.
3) One of you was surprised that Maggie ran into Ben and girls in WI (because you thought they were in Illinois just outside of Chicago at the start of the series) but the interactive map shows that Sylvania Estates is in the south eastern corner of WI.
4) The diagram we see in Rachel’s journal looks a lot like the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Here is a picture of that:
ATLAS detector
There is a large particle accelerator just outside of Chicago (Fermilab) and it just so happens that the University of Chicago has ties to it. Maybe Ben and/or Rachel was working with Fermilab in collaboration with CERN and either caused the blackout or detected it was imminent. The resemblance of the drawing to the ATLAS detector indicates to my that a particle accelerator is going to play a role in the story eventually.
5) My personal feeling about ‘Nate’ is that he is actually working for Rachel. She met him while a captive and ‘turned’ him and sent him out to find and protect her children. Alternatively, she sent him out to find and kill Miles for breaking his promise that she would be able to see her children again someday. There is no evidence for any of this yet, but Nate’s vague statements/answers to Charlie when he was chained to the pole indicates he has a hidden agenda. I think Nate is a good guy with a secret mission.
Well, that’s it for now. I hope this time my post doesn’t go poof when I click the ‘Submit Comment’ button.

Darrell, I’ll take you up on the banana bet. But I’m only up for one banana, not three. I can’t have much potassium… but I think I’m right anyways. π
A little behind in the podcasts – it may be a power generator, but my first thought seeing Rachel’s drawing was Dharma π
It reminded me of that too. We also had someone write in and say it looked like one of the parts of the Hadron Collider. After comparing the drawing to a picture of the Hadron Collider, I agree!
