Welcome to Stuff I Learned Yesterday. My name is Darrell Darnell, I am now over halfway through with my complete X Files series rewatch, and I believe that if you aren’t learning, you aren’t living. In today’s episode of Stuff I Learned Yesterday we’re taking a look back at an episode about childhood.
Today fun fact is: Today is Friday the 13th! Is this a day that freaks you out makes you superstitious, or does it make you want to put on a hockey mask and walk slowly through the woods? Here are some random facts about the original 1980 movie, Friday the 13th.
- The movie was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in New Jersey. The camp is still in operation, and it has a wall of Friday the 13th paraphernalia to honor that the movie was set there.
- The film made $39,754,601 and had a budget of $550,000.
- The filmmakers never intended to make this the launching pad for the series that followed. According to
- Victor Miller, Jason was only meant as a plot device and not intended to continue on his mother’s grisly work.
- Jason didn’t have a hockey mask until the third movie.
- Composer Harry Manfredini’s film score is meant to sound like young Jason’s voice saying “kill, kill, kill; mom, mom, mom,” inspiring her to go on a killing spree. Manfredini created the effect by speaking the syllables “ki” and “ma” into a microphone running through a delay effect.
