Welcome to Stuff I Learned Yesterday. My name is Darrell Darnell, yesterday I learned that my 11 year old son knows more about Super Mario Brothers 2 than I do, and I believe that if you aren’t learning, you aren’t living. In today’s episode of Stuff I Learned Yesterday I’m pleased to bring you another installment of the Friday Forum.
Today’s fun fact:
Tomorrow will be the 110th meeting between the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns, in one of the biggest football rivalries in existence. Since I’m from Oklahoma and an avid Sooner fan, I hope you’ll indulge me today with some fact about the Red River Showdown.
- Texas is ahead in the overall record at 60-44-5
- The series is much closer in the post-WWII era with Texas still edging out OU at 34-33-3
- OU has won 4 out of the last 5 and 10 out of the last 15 games
- With only 3 exceptions, the game has been played at a neutral field in Dallas, TX since 1912
- Ticket sales are split 50/50 between the two schools and the stadium is split at the 50 yard line. OU typically gets the south end zone and Texas gets the north side.
- In 2005 the Dallas Morning News surveyed 119 division 1A football coaches and the OU Texas game was voted the 3rd top rivalry in college football. Ohio State/Michigan was voted #1 and Army/Navy was voted #2.
