Welcome to Stuff I Learned Yesterday. My name is Mandy Wichert. I discovered today that dilating your eyes at the optometrist can leave you with a nasty migraine, and I believe if you aren’t learning you aren’t living! Happy New Year!!! If I had a noise maker, I’d use it, but I don’t so…You’re welcome! Let me just say Happy 2015!

Friday Forum
I want you to be a part of the Friday Forum! Friday Forum is your opportunity to Share what YOU’VE learned, so that other listeners and I can learn from YOU. It can be a message as short as 30 seconds or several minutes long. It really doesn’t matter just as long as it’s something that will benefit others. What I Learned Yesterday:
When I was about 12 I got the best invitation in the mail. I opened up the envelope and confetti and glitter popped out! I had been invited to a birthday party on New Year’s Eve! I was elated. Nothing sounded better than the promise of shenanigans, pot banging, dancing and loud celebrations into the wee hours of the morning with friends. There was all kinds of fun promised and I was pretty happy my mom agreed to let my younger sister and I both go!

When I arrived, everyone was fired up and excited about the evening to come! There were about 10 of us in total. The music was blaring, there were tons of delicious treats created just for the party and of course, the New Year’s standard black eyed peas. I arrived around 6:00pm, hungry and we all ate sandwiches then started playing games and grazed on the table adorned with sweets and snacks when we felt the urge. After board games, we sang karaoke, and then hide and seek, followed by jumping on the trampoline. Around 9:00pm things turned South, as my “energetic” friends and I snuggled in to watch “Back to the Future”. I looked around the room and saw a lot of yawning and stretching, but we were all determined to stay up to midnight. Following the show, my friend’s mom suggested we watch the sequel. So, we popped it in to the VHS. I remember nothing after this point. I apparently drifted off somewhere in the middle of the second movie and apparently so did all but one of my cohorts. New Year’s Day was celebrated without much fanfare, but we all got a good night’s rest!

The next morning we were all disappointed that we hadn’t celebrated in the way we had hoped to, so my mom’s friend allowed us to gather up all the noise machines and instruments and head outside at noon to ring in the Noon Year. After that, missing out on staying up late didn’t seem like such a bad thing, because we got two full days of celebrating.

What Did I Learn?
Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and plans don’t go as expected. You can either let that circumstance rain on your parade, or you can party like it’s 1999 at noon the next day. This little lesson helped me to see the bright side to my circumstance and my friends and I were able to enjoy the same celebration in a different way. We didn’t need midnight to have fun, the fun was enjoying the moment with each other. Hope you are enjoying your time with friends and family! Happy New Year!
