Welcome to Stuff I Learned Yesterday. My name is Darrell Darnell, Christopher Nolan is my favorite film director, and I believe that if you aren’t learning, you aren’t living. In today’s episode of Stuff I Learned Yesterday we’re back with another installment of the Friday Forum.
Today’s Fun Fact:
Today, October 14 is International Top Spinning Day. My favorite movie to watch over and over again is Inception starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, and Ken Watanabe. If you’ve seen the movie, you know that a top is an important element in the film. So in honor of International Top Spinning Day, here are some fun facts about the movie Inception.
- In the city scene on the first level of the dream with Fischer, the state motto on the license plates of the cars reads “The Alternate State.”
- The name of the character Cobb references Henry N. Cobb, an American architect notable for designing skyscrapers. The world Cobb and Mal made in Limbo consists mostly of skyscrapers.
- The character Saito was written just for Ken Watanabe. Nolan felt that he didn’t receive enough screen time in Batman Begins and wanted to give him a larger role.
- When Cobb is on the plane and is given his passport, the face seen in the photograph is actually that of Christopher Nolan
- If you take the first letter of the main characters Dom, Robert, Eames, Arthur, Mal and Saito you get DREAMS.
Incidentally, I got to see some of the places where Inception was filmed and some of the props from the movie when I was in Los Angeles last month…but more on that coming up on Monday’s episode.
