The Sandbox Episode 73 – Self Control Review
Another midseason finale of sorts for Agents of SHIELD with Self Control, and we have a LOT of questions, especially with the vignettes we saw of those who are living their lives in The Framework. A trio of heart-wrenching emotional scenes really had the waterworks going for most of the audience, and the next “pod” is sure to be something completely unexpected, not the least of which is the return of a certain twice-dead character.
Join us for show news, commentary and analysis for Self Control, a week off from Faith’s CoulSass moments (no sass!), and our listener feedback segment! This week we talk about Aida’s reasons for wanting emotions, the regrets that may be determining the shape of The Framework, the great fight scene between Daisy and Mace, the suspicions about who was an LMD and who wasn’t, and the possible future for many characters from Ivanov in his new body to Simmons in her possibly dead avatar!

Nice blog post photo.
“a week off from Faith’s CoulSass moments (no sass!)” – there was a little sass just in such a heavy episode it doesn’t feel as sassy as it might otherwise. Granted there weren’t a lot of choices but there was still some good comebacks in this episode I feel.
Embrace the Skimmons boys! 😀
I could see half of the season being in the framework as long as outside of it just a little time has past because Jemma said they can only stay inside so long so they can’t stay hooked up all season as cool as Dave’s idea was I’ll admit.
I debate about the LMDs having powers if they’re copies of Inhumans, given they’re tech you could argue Aida could replicate certain powers so in a sense they’d have them but if there’s not a tech copy for them they wouldn’t display abilities; Daisy is just frequency based really and you can recreate that to a point with pressure waves so I think some LMDs could mimic select powers arguably.
Yeah Jemma and Daisy were moving around great to be stabbed and shot in their legs. Ooh bad guy Fitz…yes, bring on that acting performance from Iain! Definitely a great episode!!!
I view the Fitzsimmons comment as pushing in the scene with Jemma and Daisy because it felt SO out of place from everything else and if Daisy wanted to motivate her she could have used the team as family because Jemma would want to help them as well. I can see how you could argue for it being motivation, but again I feel they could have had a more organic thing be the motivation rather than Fitzsimmons especially since 99% of that scene was Daisy-Jemma however you see their relationship.
Maybe Ward brought Daisy into Hydra if he’s still an agent for them and it was May talking to them?
“Love of Jemma’s life?” – Daisy’s fine so she’s good. 😉 So much smiling from me with this episode Peter. 🙂 The Mayettes were definitely on the plane at the end with the group. Aida scarier than Ultron…that’s a fair statement!
Great scene picks by Faith.
