Gonzales’ team continues to pick away at Coulson’s secrets, giving Bobbi doubts and inspiring Fitz and Simmons to enact a brilliant con in Afterlife. With Skye figuring out her “gift” and Mike Peterson back in business, will powered people be instrumental in Coulson getting his team back?

SHOW NOTES:
S.H.I.E.L.D. Spinoff in the Works
It depends on what the spin off is about whether or not I’ll watch it. I hope it won’t be Simmons leaving, although that would be a great showing of support for her character, because of her relationship with Skye and Bobbi who I think will stay around longer because AP just got her bump; I can see Fitz maybe starting it with his mission to find Fury but I don’t see him really leaving, maybe it’s “real S.H.I.E.L.D.” since some fans have voiced displeasure about the new super-powered Skye and how they miss the spy versus spy of season one and agents reacting to those with powers instead of being super-powered themselves. Even though they do have powers in their own rights through training; they are not the Avengers but they’re still heroes too just lesser known than Black Widow. I’m not sure about the spin-off completely yet, there’s a lot of questions for sure and how that affects the universe.
Lincoln’s “Oh, you mean you didn’t know?” repetition did get old. I wonder why Skye’s mom didn’t look for her as an adult; was she putting it just on Cal because of his volunteer for it and if that’s the case, why deny him the chance to see Skye? It did feel like an “if ever, probably not if there’s a vote” case; still why put it on just him, she could have saved Skye from being changed if that’s something she wanted. I think Lincoln could be a little naive about the whole situation with Skye in regards to Raina, yes Raina is now one of them and she’s capable of good things as well but she’s also capable of being her old bad guy self; it goes for anyone with powers in their ranks, they train them to control their powers but not how to use them if you will. It’s like the mutants in “X-Men”, some use their powers for good and others for evil and the same could be debated with the Inhumans; I get Lincoln feels a bond with Raina because of their powers but they don’t know each other and while Raina could turn into a force of good she could not as well just like he can seem like a good guy but not be too. Calderon thinks he’s a good guy, same as Ward, but that’s not exactly true.
I think Bobbi didn’t want Mack to see her watching the interrogation with May because he might question her loyalty again. Bobbi is definitely not feeling the same as she first did; she can’t have Mack drawing attention to her because then she can’t help Coulson’s team like she most likely is planning. I definitely believe May would use her board position to help Coulson. Gonzales’s loaded gun move was cool.
I can buy the cube that Fitz flipped was fake already, but how did Jemma make the switch from real to fake with the cube always being watched? Did the guards ever question her scans? How did she pocket the cube to switch later without being caught? About the only way I can see her getting away with that is if Bobbi helped her and thus allowed the real cube to leave which I’m not sure at that point she would without Jemma convincing her it was the right thing, in which case I would to see that scene; otherwise I’m not sure how Simmons made that first switch.
The sandwich and Fitz showing trust of Jemma was a nice scene, but I still think she made the sandwich just as a friend or sibling who cares about him and it was the start of the rebuilding of that friendship. Jemma does love Fitz but she’s not in love with Fitz romantically. I do like that it took awhile for them to reconnect because it feels organic to the moments, they tried to connect earlier but had disagreements so them working together here was made sweeter by the buildup.
I can see Skye crying when she learns that Jaiying is her mom, but it would be tears of anger; as Dave said on the one hand she’d understand being left when she was a baby but on the other she was a baby and Jaiying was alive so where was she? I agree with Mike it’ll be like meeting her father where she’s happy to have found them but then things will change, Jaiying’s yelling will come from her not looking for Skye hard enough for Skye. I like the idea one fan came up with in regards to how Jaiying could be alive, they said Cal could have killed those in the village to get parts for her and he’s the one who put her together which makes you question Jaiying’s attitude towards him in the cell since he did everything he promised; her DNA was still in her cells so if he could get them restarted she could heal herself and it’s possible her DNA over wrote the DNA of the replaced parts so that’s one possible way. Being a slow process it would explain the scars still on her face to a point and possibly why she didn’t rush to find Skye herself, because she was still healing, though depending on her state you still wonder why didn’t look because if she could walk then Skye may have a point she should look.
