Agents of SHIELD Season 6 Finale Review: The Sign and New Life
The Agents of SHIELD season 6 finale wrapped things up neatly (perhaps too neatly) but gave us an amazing setup for season 7. “The Sign” and “New Life” may have undone too many deaths, but it gave us plenty of excitement and more unexpected moments than we could count.
Join us for show news, commentary and analysis for the season 6 finale, Faith’s S.H.I.E.L.D.S.A.S.S. feature, and our listener feedback segment! This week we talk about Mack and Daisy’s argument, Yoyo’s powers, Deke’s big confession, May’s surprising end, Sarge’s true nature, and all the many reveals Simmons shared with us in the final moments. Agents of SHIELD Season 6 Finale Show Notes
Agents of SHIELD Final Season May Have Agent Carter Crossover
[sc:sb]
I actually liked “The Sign” better than the second half “New Life” because “New Life” felt kind of like a whole different side plot suddenly becoming a main plot which felt unbalanced where was “The Sign” felt like the season finale to what I had been watching all season. Maybe if they had done more with the Cronicoms through the season it wouldn’t have felt like such a shift but as is I liked part 1 better than part 2.
I rather they just brought back Hayley as Peggy via LMD than do the ending they did or a crossover.
I think it’s fair to argue is Flint real because he has his body and memories and his personality so for all purposes it is Flint, it’s like he was snatched out of time so I think it’s fair to say he’s just as real as anyone because it’s not like he disappeared once Izel was done with him. Also Mack and YoYo treated him as if he was real versus an illusion so that adds to he’s real for them thus they basically baked a Flint.
Given what Mack did with making it personal with YoYo before the end despite him saying it was trusting his team I don’t think Daisy should have said “Don’t, I screwed up”. because she was no more off than he was in choices.
I’ll admit they got me too with the plan reveal; I could believe Sarge would stab one of them because I felt he’d probably bring them back but I didn’t think he’d push May through to do his work on that side while Izel was distracted, that was well done. Now I guess you can ask WAS that the plan the whole time or did Sarge get lucky May went along but still it was well done. You could argue why not just kick Izel back into the whole and slow her down but this was better for action and again applause for it all overall being organic drama and beats and not just drama action scene for the sake of drama or action like some moments can be!
It would have SUCKED HARDCORE to lose May for sure and I know they want the original characters, at least the actors if nothing else, at the end but yeah they’re copping out way too much on death at this point but building it up to the most extreme moments and taking it back at the end so again it’s like why should we believe you writers when you say X is dead. Even if they defend to the end X’s death it’s then like “Okay but why is X dead but Y isn’t because they had similar moments” or “Why is Y more important than X?”; they’ve kind of invalidated that plot for themselves, at the least made it problematic with believability and I can’t feel sorry for them. Dealing with major character deaths, especially some fan favorites, would have definitely given the final seasons a level of drama not recently done on any show but they copped out; you could have had the actors play different characters especially messing with time going forward and they’ve established alternate realities with Deke still being around so you could have them but also the weight of death having a meaning still but characters should have been gone at this point. Fitz, Coulson, May, and YoYo in my opinion all should be dead right now with what’s happened; Coulson arguably still is depending on how you personally see that plot but the rest got off really easy for plot. Sure Daisy, Jemma, and Mack does SHIELD as we know it not make but SHIELD is a unit so they kind of do and it’s been set up for the last few seasons what’s next for these characters well losing those you know would be a moving on factor and how do they deal with it – do they stay with the unit in memory, do they save the Earth one last time and leave, do they survive the final battle as it were and are they ok with that? There’s some really interesting character stuff you could do with death pressing down on them as it were but the writers have just backed off it so much and it’s kind of bringing down the intensity of the plots they’ve built up. Again I admittedly would have been furious if May died because why would you kill May, but it would have worked for the situation to a point I wouldn’t be angry at the handling by the writers and could have overall accepted it; you could have had Ming play someone again in the future who either was related to May’s family or someone who just looked like her, given May is going to be down at least an episode probably did they HAVE to have May still there at that point? No. You can argue that for all the characters true but given situations again it makes more sense May wouldn’t be there than she is. The writers have just done too much that even if they kill half the team in the final season I’m going to be meh I feel because I don’t trust it’ll stick and expect to see them in some spin off show because why not as again who are they at this point to say Y is more important than X and with as many times as they’ve saved someone now why can’t you just save everyone like you have before you know? I realize this is probably bitter sounding but again they brought it on themselves!
“I don’t watch any of the superhero shows” – WHAT?! *pushes “Supergirl” season one Mike’s way*
I definitely think Faith should continue with group sass because it gives you more options and honestly some people are funnier than Coulson each week.
I’m fine with no romantic Fitzsimmons. π
They definitely need to address the Snowflake gap!
Wait Daryl what are the 5 questions?!
What?! No, you can’t quit on the last season! ????? I’m blocking you from leaving your recording spaces! This is definitely worse than the series ending in my opinion. π I get doing you, but I hope you guys know you will definitely be missed and the final season will not be the same without the Sandbox follow up each week!
I know I speak for Dave, too, Aaron, when I say that our podcast would not have been the same without you!
