Blog Bottom:
As Coulson put it, [[[Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.]]] has turned from a land grab into a talent grab. Making Friends and Influencing People featured a “gifted” Donnie Gill and an embedded Jemma Simmons, and the race is on! How will S.H.I.E.L.D. compete when they’re so outnumbered?
Join us for show news, episode analysis, our “Declassified” segment, and the “Sandbox Mailbox” for listener feedback! This week we talk about Skye’s ability to control hear heart rate, the continued recovery of Fitz, and the unfolding of secrets about assets and family.

I loved this episode; it was really nice as a Jemma fan to see her getting a solo episode as you will.
It would be fun to see RDJ on AoS as Tony Stark; I enjoyed the banter between he and Coulson in the “Iron Man” series so it’d be fun watching that again and Tony trying to fix things Coulson tells him not to touch and maybe Fitz getting frustrated a bit that he’s touching things but still excited because it’s Tony Stark. Skye too might be excited technology link wise. Hunter would enjoy hearing the playboy stories and Tony could always leave them with a nice piece of tech as a parting gift. I’d take him being on; I’d also like to see Maria Hill back a time or two.
Here’s a bit of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. news for you if you haven’t heard already, there’s a comic book coming soon for the series.
No brainwashing Simmons please. Though if they do, Skye helps bring her back to her true self. Thank you.
In regards to the lyrics in the song playing during Simmons morning scene, I like the line “there’s no way I’m looking for a boyfriend”. I like Fitzsimmons but as friends only so I’m hoping that part’s true.
I love the promo for this episode, but I never thought Jemma would hurt Coulson. I liked daddy Coulson with the groceries and making dinner for her.
Skye totally missed on purpose. I don’t think though she had that pre planned out because they didn’t even know Jemma was going to be there; May shot Hunter because Hunter doesn’t know Jemma so he thought she wasn’t on their side, it’s only when May makes that announcement and Coulson tells them to protect her cover that I think Skye thought up that plan (because had she shot the guy it could out Jemma and she wants her safe) so her missing helps build Simmons’ cover and that’s again what Skye wants Jemma back safe.
I’m fine with Skye’s anger attitude towards Ward, he deserves it; you can’t even debate some of the things he’s done and he admitted he did them under his own free will so her being done with him I don’t fault her for.
The monitoring of the heart rate was so Hulk like to me.
I like Hunter more than I liked Ward in season one, but I’m not a big fan of his either. I don’t see him staying on the team, maybe he leaves in the season finale, but I can see him as a recurring character; he has his moments after all like getting Hartley the honor burial and giving her sister the necklace but he is annoying at times too. But maybe like Mike said we’re not suppose to like him fully because he’s the one who’s going to be used to create conflict in places until the end of the season at least. I don’t think Hunter will rat out the team, if nothing else because of how Hartley felt about them, but I don’t think he’s going to be playing fully by their rules either; he’ll have his soft sides but overall he’s more small group oriented (I know the group is small but even smaller than the 6 of them) and we’ll see him keeping that merc spirit about him because he thinks it’s the only way for him to stay safe. Even if he doesn’t follow his own rules at times, he’ll get close to them but not like he was close with Hartley and Idaho.
I can see Dave’s point about Skye always being the one to go talk to Ward, it does get stale always having it be her; yes he just wants to talk to her, which jerk (how about an apology to Fitz and Simmons), but it shouldn’t always be her down there. She doesn’t want to be down there, but it does set up her snapping and that inner personality some fear could come out but still make him listen if nothing else (like Fitz did). That was a great scene with Fitz I thought, nicely dark; I don’t fault him at all for what he did.
You can’t fault Fitz for being angry at some people, he has every right to be angry at Ward and I’m sure he’ll be upset with Jemma for various reasons even if she has valid arguments (Coulson ordered her undercover and she couldn’t risk communications) so I wouldn’t be surprised if we see broody Fitz in more episodes. He’ll probably be upset for awhile over Jemma not loving him the same way he loves her but I hope they don’t force that issue too much, I understand him being heartbroken but she has a right to only love him as a friend brother, I’d rather see him angry she didn’t find some way to contact him or at least tell him that she was leaving. I’m sure Skye will be moody with her too over the no contact thing, but I can see her forgiving her before Fitz forgives Simmons; I wouldn’t be surprised if he buddies up to Mac more when she returns just to try and give her a sense of how he felt isolated when she was on assignment.
I think Ward thinks Skye will let him out because he says he can take her to her father and because he’s been so truthful she’ll pull him out to meet her father and then he’ll be out possibly with her. Ward is trying to get Skye even though she wants nothing to do with him; again it goes back to the season one conversation “you can be monsters together” and him buying into that speech Raina said about it.
As much as Hunter talks about his ex-wife I’d hope we get to meet her even if it’s briefly; yes she could also be someone major in the comic book series but if she’s an original character that works too. He mentions her in every episode at least once so I agree I’d like to at least see a picture of her. Maybe she’ll be pro-S.H.I.E.L.D. helping them even if she’s anti-Hunter.
Fitz stopped he said himself because he’s not a killer; if he was he could have finished Ward off after he got the information about Donnie but it’s not who he is. He wanted Ward to know what it was like in that box because he didn’t buy Ward’s line about trying to help them, which he didn’t. But he’s not a killer.
