A darker tone suits the new season of [[[Agents of SHIELD]]] in the opening episode, Shadows. Director Coulson is more reclusive like Fury used to be; the mercenaries add a devil-may-care attitude to the team; and the all-or-nothing plan is appropriately desperate and exacts the expected price.

SHOW NOTES:
Season 2 Spoilers from EW
“Continuum” fan checking out this podcast; I recently started this series and look forward to hearing your thoughts on this show.
Starting question for you, did you watch the series from the start or did you jump into it and do a binge watch when Golden Spiral approached you with the idea?
I have to say before I forget, I loved this episode’s ending; when they revealed Jemma wasn’t there…such a cool reveal. Her in the field is interesting, but I hope they keep her safe. I like the Jemma character.
To be fair, Peggy never seemed to trust Howard Stark fully; at least that’s how it seems in the Captain America movie. She needs his mind and resources at times but she definitely thinks he should be watched too.
As much as they talked about biotics and Hartley near the end, I hope we see a slightly biotic Hartley again because she went out way too soon.
Maybe something happens, something which could be revealed in the Agent Carter series, between the end of Cater’s SSR group and the beginning of S.H.I.E.L.D. that causes Peggy to try and erase SSR files from history because it’s the only way she knows how to protect the information. It’ll be interesting to see if they touch on that subject in either show since you’d think their end/beginning would overlap to a degree. Maybe an older Peggy Carter even recruits/recommends a young Nick Fury.
Dave, we have yet to agree on shipping pairs for a show; granted I just started watching the series this season (plus the Sif episode from season one and the season one finale) but as far as romantic pairings go I like Skye and Simmons together. Also May and Phil I’m okay with as a romance possibility. FRIENDship wise I really like Fitz and Simmons; parental ship like I like Coulson being this sort of father to Skye like.
There’s definitely a lot theories about Skye and the GH serum.
Skye’s being trained by May so her attitude is going to change I feel to a degree because May isn’t going to let her joke around like she normally would; she’s very serious about operations going well and she’ll want Skye trained up for that so the regimen will be intense, plus Jemma isn’t there and that makes Skye cranky. She needs her girl around and for her to be safe.
Fitz was so sad in this; Ian did a great job with this episode and this aspect.
I like Skye wanted nothing to do with Ward. He willingly betrayed the group, he wasn’t brainwashed like other agents, and he tried to intentionally kill people she cares about; regardless of what he says later on he tried to kill Fitzsimmons so her being done with him I found to be refreshingly real. It wasn’t a case of debatable motives so she should give him a shot to at least hear him out, he admitted he did everything of his own will so her not pitying his victim act I love; I’m all for her treating him as an asset only because you can’t redeem that. I really hope they don’t redeem Ward, he’s interesting now to me; though I could do without the “poor me” act he’s trying to pull off, he’s not the victim.
I think Ward was trying to guilt Skye some during the session; it kind of goes back to the end of season one where Raina makes the comment “then you and Skye can be monsters together” because she thinks Skye is dark and Ward thinks she’ll never forgive him so he might as well continue being bad, he’ll take Skye no matter how he can get her even if that means turning her. I can see a good guy/bad guy fight for Skye between Ward and Jemma in the sense Ward tries to bring out her dark side so she’ll want him again and Jemma tries to help Skye hold on to who Skye wants to be which isn’t a bad person. The way everyone keeps talking Skye is kind of like their own personal Hulk and something is just waiting to come out of her either because someone brings it out (her father) or because they accidental woke it up with the GH dose in attempt to save her because Coulson got really hardcore on watching after that and that’s when he put her kind of on her own little mission saying not to tell anyone even though Jemma kind of suspects it might have done something to her based on the quick conversation she and Coulson had about using it to save Skye. So I could see a little battle for Skye possibly if they went there; it’s one of the many possibilities with the Skye character and who exactly she is.
Was there any episode discussion after talking about the infinity serum? It sounded like an audio jump between it and the declassified segment.
