A couple of odd-duck episodes this week. “Tina, is that you?” sees our favourite StarLabs employee have her mind altered because of a $5 part that should have been replaced and “Be My Baby” sets up Barry Allan as the nicest human being on planet earth. But is their run-of-the-mill nature enough to get us excited, or do we find a couple of hidden gems?

Tina, Is That You?:

Barry Allen, tormented by recurring nightmares about anxieties regarding his uncertain relationship with Tina, turns to her for help which comes in the form of an experiment in biofeedback. Unfortunately the machine backfires and Tina awakens as a different woman, a sinister version of herself, bitter and hell-bent on destroying Barry Allen. She quickly turns Barry’s love life on its head and then proceeds to join a gang called the Black Rose Gang who recently lost their leader in an altercation with the Flash.

The gang manages to get the jump on Barry using his date as bait but before they can skip town, the Flash manages to escape and capture them, bringing Tina back to Star Labs for a repeat of the procedure that caused the personality change, and finally Tina reverts to her old self.

“Tina, Is That You?” Flash Points:

So, if you remember, last week Barry dropped a line about Tina being in an all girl gang. This episode was played out of order for reasons we were unable to uncover, but that at least explains why that line is odd.

We both agree that the bio-feedback machine is nonsense and just bad sci-fi writing.

The love interest in this episode, Lisa March, is played by Yvette Nipar. She played a reassuring character in 21 Jump Street as Johnny Depp’s girlfriend. But will we ever see her again?

Be My Baby:

One night on the streets of Central City, Barry Allen encounters Stacy,, a troubled young woman on the run with her baby, Lillian, attempting to get away from the baby’s germaphonic and criminal father, Philip Moses and his cronies. Barry helps by taking the young runaways in and setting them up at a shelter for women that his mother happens to be a volunteer worker at.

Stacy ends up getting captured by Moses, but not before leaving her baby safe at Barry’s apartment, which is where she heads right to after escaping her captivity, unfortunately leading Moses right to the baby. The Flash shows up and a showdown ensues resulting in Moses’s cronies being taken down, and Moses’s financial assets being shredded to pieces.

“Be My Baby” Flash Points:

Poor Tina, gets a back hand again! But this time it’s from cameo actor Bryan Cranston! This is well before his huge breakouts in Malcolm In The Middle and Breaking Bad but about the time he was voicing monsters in the original Power Rangers TV Series. We also spotted Robert Z’Dar and his legendary chin who played Maniac Cop just a few years before this episode!
