Some information about this episode
Our heroes didn’t actually visit a historical event, but I thought I’d point out most of the 80s references featured in this episode.

Mirror Mission
We talk about Wyatt’s plan to steal the Lifeboat to change history in order to stop the murder of his wife, and how it almost literally copies the way Flynn started his mission in the show’s pilot. All the way down to the scene where Wyatt fake-forces Rufus into the time-pod for the cameras sake.
I mention how I learned how to watch television from the TV show Farscape, and it’s 100% true. I can’t talk that show up enough – I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a show to binge and enjoy Sci-Fi. That show, start to finish, was an elaborate story – and it contained a lot of symbolism and brilliant directing.
The R-Dad
We’ve started calling the “R-Dude” the “R-Dad” for reasons that are apparent. Lucy sees a picture of the guy behind the team’s manipulation, and she knows him as her father. She confronts him near the end of the episode, and his response is enigmatic and fairly sinister. We can’t wait to see how things progress with this dynamic, and what this means for Lucy and Rufus.
A Strange Bruhl
Anthony decides that he’s gone as far as he can go with Flynn, and he wants to put an end to Flynn’s madness. It doesn’t seem to matter that he hasn’t really fleshed out his plan, but he recruits Lucy to help him – at gunpoint – and then he goes off to do it by himself. *headtilt*
Oh Anthony… Flynn has a new pilot. Have you not learned ANYTHING from all those genre shows on which Matt Frewer has starred? tsk tsk. Expiration date anyone? Although it is a time-travel show. Dead doesn’t necessarily mean dead.

My Spidey senses, along with the conspiracy theory engrams implanted in my cerebellum by multiple non-Terran alien species over the past four decades, tells me we have not seen the last of Anthony Bruhl.
I think the ending to the show was WAY TOO convenient regarding Bruhl’s death in the Oakland warehouse.
We never saw if Flynn had anything to do with it. The pod is gone and we got an explosion without pod debris. Plus, Bruhl received a ‘double-tap’ assassination effort. Anything we assume about the Bruhl death is subject to rebuttal by the writing staff. Fool me once…? Fool me twice…!
Bruhl had time to sway Rufus and Lucy toward the greater good he was working toward and his testimony was heavy and foreboding about just how bad the Rittenhouse Clan will be if they achieve their goal – the complete manipulation of mankind and human civilization. He may just have been dropping chum in the water to keep them close to Flynn’s stern, and supportive or open-minded.
My theory is that Bruhl knew he was meant to die. He probably agreed to it. Flynn does have Lucy’s Silver-Lining Playbook (journal). Maybe everyone on Team Flynn knew that Bruhl had to perish in the warehouse to keep the grander scheme running, where Bruhl was a sacrificial pawn, like in Chess. And Bruhl probably agreed – knowing that he would be reinstated to life once the timeline had been corrected according to Flynn’s plan and Lucy’s testimony in her journal. Flynn has his new pilot, fresh off a 10 year layover in the past on Aboriginal North American tribal grounds, and she may have unique skills needed to continue the mission.
Extrapolation: When (if) we get a second season – do not be surprised when Bruhl resurfaces in a major timeline reset. The question will be – ‘did he resurface as a result of a ‘Flynn Win’ or a ‘Rittenhouse Victory’?

(Hint: Maybe the whole “Karma” connection was nothing more than a reference to Anthony “Workman” Bruhl wallowing in his own pot of Dharma Initiative Stew with a dollop of lead poisoning in the back of the head, ala LOST. As I remember, Pilots didn’t fair too well on that show, either. What next? The Timepod has a corporate logo for Ajira Airlines on the Hatch? Namaste.)

Man I like how you thing Doc!
Great podcast! Just wanted to let you know, the episode with the other soldier that Wyatt knows is the Alamo episode. I haven’t gone back to check and see if it’s the same guy from next week though.
I knew that too, Kim. But – Karen likes to do her homework and figure things out for herself.
but for you, he is Victor Zinck Jr. at IMDb

and The Alamo

and in the ‘promo pic’ here for The Lost Generation

He played Baumgardner in “The Alamo” ep1-05. Wyatt’s Special Forces buddy who (loudly-all caps) just happened (less loudly) to be in the building after the Alamo return. Foreshadowing! FYI – He is a Marine, not a Soldier.
I was the one who ‘hung a lantern’ on his character in the feedback portion of the podcast as a probable recur.
I wonder if Matt Lanter contracted for a project immediately after the 13 episode initial order, then, when Timeless discovered they had an additional three orders, about the time Zinck appeared, they wrote Baumgardner into the show as a “Just-In-Case” character, if Lanter could not satisfy enough ‘days-on-set’ for the extra episodes.
Whoops. (Doctor Evil pinkie to corner of lips) I just did all of Karen’s homework for her.

Tomorrows lesson:
Q: ‘When does two minutes before a deadline not qualify as meeting a deadline?’
A: Apparently when you contribute to ‘Remaking History’.
Discussion seminars will follow each of your 5 minute presentations.
Hey now, just so you know, I *also* knew he’d be back when he “just happened” to be around to see Wyatt after The Alamo mission.
However, I appreciate all the homework! I haven’t had any spare time to do the looking up of all that info, and I’m eternally grateful. Or as eternally as we un-time-teamers can be at least. 🙂
Whoops! Editing to add that Wyatt is appearing in the episode as well, so he may have been contracted to appear in the original episodes, but he’s not going away in these last few. In fact, there are some pretty awesome scenes coming up that feature him.
Core Actors get credits in all episode, regardless if they appear, or not. But yes, Lanter is in the next episode. However I did mention that “IF he could not satisfy enough ‘days-on-set’..”
Lanter could have easily have shot his segments for s1-14/15/16, well before he was released to his next scheduled job. He may also have had some flex in delaying his first full week of commitment to his next project.
Still, what is the secret handshake on the deadline? We out West need to beat it by 3PM or 4PM, depending on your 6PM Virginia/Georgia line in the sand. I can’t do anything at work other than write notes on a paper pad aka no PC time for personal concerns at work. I currently have to rush home to get my inputs to you. If traffic is slow… bam! no input.
===Marketing Comment===
Put the actual title of the episode on these episode pages. Use the the cutesy made-up titles, but add the actual episode titles to the meta-data, or some smaller place in the label/header. This will bring more folks to the web page as most ‘searchers’ only know to look for actual title – not the cutesy made-up podcast title.
Ummm… did you search for an episode by the title? I put each title in the keywords for searching, and I tried it for Karma Chameleon – it worked fine. You should be able to do that with the Remaking History ‘casts.
And you can get your comments in a little after 6pm Eastern, but we don’t record much later than that. If it’s text, you have a bit of leeway. Audio is different, it requires some editing and that may not make it to post time if it’s not in before 6pm.
If text comes in between 6pm and 8(ish)pm and we see it, it will probably be included. So does that help? We’d love to get your comments in every week if we could.
