The Machine has to rescue its “acolytes” (as Greer put it) from a Samaritan trap. And it has to choose between hundreds of thousands of potential scenarios in its head; hence the episode title “If-Then-Else.” That, a truly stunning development for our heroes, and a 2003 game of chess with Mr. Finch is part of this second installment of a POI trilogy. Makes me worry for part three.
