All is quiet at the tower. Brainy and Lena have secured the courage and humanity totems with a combination of Earth magic and Coluan calculations. This leaves Kara to focus on the interview of a lifetime. The leaders of Kaznia and Corto Maltese have agreed to sit down and decide on terms of a peace agreement. Kara has secured access for Catco in this historic event. Needless to say, Andrea is over the moon about the news.
Nia has returned empty handed from Parthas. Maeve took all their mother’s books and research and fled to parts unknown. Brainy suggests that Nia have a healthy breakfast including her greens, give her mind over to her dream powers and let her visions lead the way. Meanwhile, Nyxly is also looking for the dream totem. She breaks into a research facility where a scientist has built a machine to harness dream power. She uses the gauntlet from her secret admirer to open a portal to the dream realm. What escapes in the interim will cause much havoc in the city and will need to be contained.
Nia’s dreams lead her to a university to speak to a professor there. Upon her arrival at the office door from her dreams, Nia comes face to face with her sister Maeve. This is the first time the girls have been together since Maeve insulted Nia at their mother’s funeral. Despite the pain that has been caused the sisters set out to the dream realm to save the next totem from Nyxly’s grasp.
Downtown a nightmare monster is tormenting National City. Lena reprograms some of Lex’s old satellites to project a dome over half the city. This is necessary to contain the creature who was steps away from causing a nuclear catastrophe. The Super Friends have saved the city, but the Governor does not see it that way. She sees a group of people who leap into action before consulting those in charge. She only sees a large barrier that is separating people from their homes and jobs. Also, parents from their children. The National Guard mobilizes against the dome nearly causing the monster to not be vanquished back to its realm.
Nia and Maeve are still working to decode which path leads to the totem. Maeve’s jealousy takes hold again for what she feels is a birthright lost. I am glad to see that after such a deep hurt on both sides the healing is not instantaneous. However, their lack of solidarity in this moment cost them the dream totem.
Needless to say, when a quiet day turned into chaos Kara missed her interview. William reminded her of advice from Cat Grant. “You can have it all but not necessarily all at the same time “. Maybe right now is the season for Supergirl to shine. Kara turns in her resignation to Andrea. Nyxly’s suit is badly damaged from her battle with Dreamer. The AI within the suit asks to hold the dream totem. A few seconds later Lex Luthor materialized in the room. What is he doing here? What is his role in the story? Will he ever pay for sending our beloved Maid of Steel to the Phantom Zone?

Imagine if …
After listing Kara’s repeated failures of late at Catco, Andrea added, “Since this job doesn’t seems to be a distraction to whatever it is that causing your absences, which you haven’t even tried to explain, I’m going to do you of favor of removing this distraction so you can focus on whatever is really important to you–because being a reporter clearly is not. Cat Grant had high praises for you. While I didn’t always see eye to eye with her, her professional judgement on talent was top notch. I cut slack for you. You have talent, Kara, but lately you’ve been wasting it so goodbye. I’ll have Security escort you out and send you your things.”
After getting home, Kara talked over her future, not with William, but with Alex. Alex mentions Esme overheard her on the phone and said to tell Aunt Kara to cheer up. That sometimes went stayed at a place that wasn’t a good fit but ultimately ended up in the best place with her new mom. Kara and Alex both cry and hug of Esme’s precocious wisdom.
Nyxly, while tinkering with some alien gear on Mitch’s ship, in order to unlock the powercuff, accidentally established a link to the Dream dimension and discovered Lex had gotten stuck there in an experiment gone wrong. Together they work out a way for her to enter the Dream dimension, get the Dream totem and rescu-er assist Lex free himself from the dimension. And THAT leads to Lex having a crush on Nyxly.
The giant cat kept trying to play with the giant dome.
Maeve explained to Nia that to truly Dream requires an enhanced mind that is able to tap dormant mental abilities like telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation and clairvoyance. That’s why Nia’s powers are more than just being able to Dream the future. Also, with training, you can control your dreams even stay awake so dreams don’t control you.
Some blog post comments…
First of all, I love you used the best part of the episode to promote this week’s podcast. 🙂
“Nia’s dreams lead her to a university to speak to a professor there.” – if they hadn’t of spoiled Maeve was coming back the professor reveal may have worked more but since we know all I could think is ‘How did you not see this coming Nia? M. Raeve is clearly Maeve’. 🙂
“She sees a group of people who leap into action before consulting those in charge.” – which they’ve never taken issue with before this year but whatever, continuity is MIA because there was a Crisis. *sigh*
“William reminded her of advice from Cat Grant…” – which he knew Cat said to Kara how? Must be because of all the magic in the world now. *eye roll*
*sees the pets banner* LOOK AT K-Vox SHE IS SO CUTE!!! Sorry Justina, your babies are cute also but I feel like they’re conspiring against me so yeah stop team K-Vox more. 🙂
Yes to this week’s poll, they’ll either get it back physically or get in back in terms of beating Nxy; everything will be fine in the end either so the answer is still “yes”.
In terms of the cover art for the comic this week – Batman is holding Wonder Woman’s hand…WonderBat vibes. 🙂
“When Lex Luthor appears by Nyxly’s side, Supergirl and team must deal with the emotional fallout of facing their two biggest foes at the same time.” – ?? you writers Lex is NOT Supergirl’s biggest villain, he’s her cousin’s – the guy you keep confusing her for! ???SO insulating! This just keeps confirming to me “Supergirl” ended after season three and this other series is just the testing ground for Superman’s plot for that series; if people like it they’ll move it to the main show but if they don’t they’ll leave it in this garbage pile…or throw it in the sun since that’s how you destroy things according to this series logic.
On to the podcast…
Sadly I’m not holding my breath for Alex to be in the Flash mini crossover a lot, I would love it if she was but I don’t think she’ll get a lot of time compared to the others. 🙁
Title – “Nightmare In National City”
Me – this episode; appropriate title!
We were clearly watching two different episodes John. Ha
Brainy was green with blonde hair in the Bruce Timms’ animated series when he meets Kara in her future episode.
*listens to Justina’s pick* Woo Nia! *listens to John’s pick* *sigh* SHUT UP Kara also, ha to her being a great reporter because no; Andrea you are awesome – keep up the good work. 🙂
Why would you talk about Lena John when there’s Lex in the world! ?
Kara Danvers would not just up and quit CatCo because she had a bad day so no John it wasn’t organic, it was forcing another check on the list speeding towards the end because they don’t care about this series anymore; Klark Danvers I don’t know – it could be organic for them, I’m not into their character I’ll be honest so I felt nothing when they said they were quitting over a hissy fit essentially because they think they have to do it alone despite having everyone they know in a suit and didn’t they just merge Earths so it’s not like they don’t have extra back up a call away…shut up Klark. Again I hated every scene Melissa was in this week as both Kara and Supergirl.
If we’re talking wishes for this series I wish Superman was never on it beyond a few text in season one or talk of how he wasn’t perfect starting out either – the Superman obsession (writing her like him and doing his plots more than hers) killed “Supergirl”. I wish the writers had more care for “Supergirl” and did little details which would have made the episode each detail was in better. I wish the network promoted is better in later years and not just content wise but also if they want a character from our series in a crossover they is them to do more than fill the background essentially. I wish our legacy wasn’t that of wasted potential, but that’s tragically all we are now; we’re the joke so many other fandoms mocked us over earlier even though they’d committed crimes far worse at a point.
If Kara was going to quit she should have done it in season five when Andrea was over the paper or season two with Snapper in charge…this is just checking off a box and destroying more things fans care about so they’ll never want to speak of the series again. There’s no reason for Kara to quit when she could have asked for a break but she did because the writers are out to kill this series as much as possible. Nothing else makes sense; it’s CERTAINLY no homage to a beloved season like season one or even a liked season like season three.
J’onn probably did investments…he’s been on Earth for awhile, that’s got to lead to some good interest.
“They just don’t have time for it” – they’ll make time for Lex. ?
“We get a scene with Superman…excuse me Supergirl” – no you had it right the first time John, this is Klark Dent’s show not Kara Danvers’. ?
Maid Of Steel, Chyler’s face, and Nicole killing it often weekly as Nia are still things I enjoy with this series but yeah I haven’t fully enjoyed an episode really since like season 3 and certainly whole seasons haven’t been good since season three. Again the most annoying part is they don’t seemingly care and I’m just like left asking “Why?!” and yeah no you can’t say you care and put out this garbage, you know what fans want because we tell you and this ain’t it so don’t try and say you’re giving fans what they want…no one ever asked for Guardian as prime example. They’re not even trying a little bit this season and it sucks; we were an awesome series and we could have been arguably the greatest of the superhero shows but they got obsessed with some dude who can do the sane things as Kara and ran her show into the ground because of it and I HATE that! All I can think of is how awesome these actors would have been as these characters in plots that focused on Kara Danvers instead of Klark Dent and how we might have gone 8 years too or more but we’ll never get that now and it’s just SUCH a bummer. ?
NO, no to Kara being apart of the Legion! ?
Oh man they better no out Alex, Kara will have to be a full time bodyguard if that happens; forget the whole Sentinel crap Alex as just a DEO agent and former people held by her finding that out and then knowing how to get to her – so many people want her dead to injured…that would just not be good. It could be an interesting post series though but that would mean care for the “Supergirl” world and they don’t anymore. Even if they did Barry would probably erase it with Armageddon anyways so.
Here’s one in turn Leslie, why is it Esme can meet James and company and we hear about it but not her meeting grandma Eliza off screen?
“I feel the ending will be an epic fail” – seconded!
Eliza owns that apartment so I feel Kara is good. Ha. A GREAT point about putting the dome around the nuclear planet instead of the city…now I’m thinking about “Warehouse 13” and their bomb debate in season 3 – why not just forcefield it instead of the team beyond drama.
