Kara has returned from the Phantom Zone. It is a place where despair reigns supreme and time doesn’t advance. Lena designed a yellow sun bomb to reinvigorate her best friend and break her out of that dark, hopeless place. Supergirl is home but the Phantom Zone still haunts her. Alex will not leave her side. They are stronger together. As an unstoppable force they will take on whatever National City has to face next.
Andrea is irritated that Kara did not come back to work with a big story. Catco is falling behind the other news outlets and Ms. Rojas is desperate to get back on top. As Acrata she uses her shadow power to get a lead on Supergirl. If she can report on not only the Maid of Steel but her team as well that could put Catco back in the top spot. The Superfriends would be a great cover story. Kara has always been able to talk to Supergirl so Andrea puts her on the case. When Kara reads about the phantoms her team had to deal with in her absence her blood runs cold.
Uncle Archie aka Zor-El is adjusting to life under a yellow sun. He is interested in learning what his daughter has been doing here on Earth. He flies with her to put out a garbage fire before it can become an ecological disaster. Zor-El is concerned because death of the oceans is what spelled doom for Krypton. Kara shows her father the fortress. That is where he develops an idea to modify Kalex to dispose of trash in a nontoxic way. The plan seems successful at first. Then the power core in the droid malfunctions causing the trash to not disappear but pile onto itself. This causes a giant being made of rubbish to form and threaten the city.
The team must work together using their various strengths to vanquish “Bad Trash.” Zor-El decides it is time to head to Argo City to face Allura. Lena wants to go home and explore her roots on her mother’s side. Kara and Alex return to the couch for some dinner and some wine. Alex reiterates to Kara that she will be with her every step of the way as she deals with the trauma caused by the Phantom Zone. Stronger together! Always and forever! This is the strength they will draw on as Nia is awakened by a dream of Nyxly. A maiden sure to cause some mischief as our story continues…

Some blog post comments…
Danvers sisters banner! ?#HeartOfTheSeries I will say this feels like us watching “Supergirl” with me being Kara just upset each week over something they failed to do that would be easy to improve and you two are Alex trying to say it will be better but I know it won’t; the gesture is appreciated though. ? I guess it’s true they could slip up at the end and not have the final suck completely but I won’t be holding my breath.
Okay about the Superfriends files, they came from Lex – they would totally have their real names on them because his whole desire is to destroy them so why not let them be outted?!
I fully support Nxy wrecking havoc as it’s the only fun thing left on the series beyond seeing Kara and Alex together at the apartment!
“Will Kelly’s New Job at Social Services Lead to Her and Alex adopting?” – why not at this point? It seems like if the choice is wrong or fast for a character that’s the one they go with this year. It will also lead her to being Guardian I feel because she’ll say she saw things there she couldn’t imagine even though she’s was in a war zone at one point! ?Kelly is tragically the new James – they refuse to let her do what she’s good at and what she originally came on the series for and now she’s basically a character no one really cares about and is not as memorable as others. Again you could have an extra of the week come in and do Kelly’s job and nothing would change because she’s basically pointless now, she’s just a love interest and we don’t even really get that plot (kisses do not a romance story make writers)…she could have been something and we’d be saying “remember when that shrink came in and we learned…” but no she has to be in a suit because comic book show and everyone wants fights and oh yeah we don’t care anymore so forget what you want fans. ? I feel for Azie as she got robbed; you tried girl, we’ll now add you to the list though of aspects of this series which lead to saying its legacy is now that of wasted potential.
In regards to the video clip you posted, “Something I learned from “Supergirl” is that you don’t need super powers to be super powerful” – this would be more impactful if she wasn’t in a suit when she said it; okay you don’t need actual powers clearly but apparently you still need a suit, that’s mandatory even though for 4 years a black polo worked just fine. *hard angry sigh* This was bittersweet to me because it’s nice what they said but it’s annoying they’re saying it now because they shouldn’t have to – they should still be going; also we’re getting these which is great but it’s all online so you have to actively seek out content for your series and again her fans shouldn’t have to do this because it should be on air during commercials like everyone else gets! ?
On to the podcast…
“a podcast dedicated to “Supergirl”” – at least the fans still care about the show!
Happy dog day K Vox! ?:)
I don’t watch LEGENDS as they refuse to acknowledge Nyssa’s effect on Sara’s life and how she was the biggest love in it until Ava so yeah I dropped them after like season one. Also they’re a time show that never really changes stone so boring as you know what will happen each week. Also they balked on doing Charlie and Zari together…it’s just a mess and I can’t with them. Superman is a no because it killed “Supergirl” – I will forever stand by this fact. “Arrow” is over; “Batwoman” I dropped because she’s not Kate. I do watch FLASH on occasion if Nora West-Allen is in it but yeah really it’s just “Stargirl” and “Supergirl” for me and honestly it’s just more “Stargirl” bringing the joy because…the writing is is just garbage now on our series.
OH Leslie I FEEL YOU on the whole being sad “Supergirl” is ending thing while others continue…watch everyone will get 8 years but us! We had the most potential but we’ll be seen as the biggest failure by other shows’ fans I bet. 🙁 MAN WE DESERVED BETTER…at the least to be treated as the same but we can’t get even that in comparison now I’d argue; FLASH will have a big deal made for him when he ends and same for Superman who already has all the attention and I bet even Legends gets promos shown for their next episodes on their final season. The only one who may be treated the same as us will be “Batwoman” because they know they screwed it hard but who knows it may get a spin off just because it’s not us and we can’t even get a tease if one for Alex who’s awesome. *disappointed sigh*
Katie’s accent! ❤️
Couch adjacent. 🙂
I still want Zor to be fake because else it just kills Kara’s origin, she thought everyone died but no turns out aside from Astra they’re fine…some how everyone in that exact family survived a planetary extinction because that’s logical – NOT. There’s just no need for him to also be alive and so I’m hoping he’s still a figment played with by Nxy and that’s why his leaving coincides with Nia getting the drama of her because Nxy is done with toys and she’s ready to play with then big guns as it were. 🙂
Same Justina, character aspects will always be more engaging to me than fancy fights and cool CGI! 🙂
I’ll be honest, watching Lena read a book while she waits to board the plan and then watching her just sleep on said plane and then deboard and spend like a hour trying to find a starting point for her journey would be way more compelling than watching the whole of this season and certainly last season. Ha.
I’m all for characters mixing, don’t be afraid to let your characters talk to each other writers – Lena can bond with Alex and Nia…she doesn’t always have to be with Kara in content!
Exactly Justina – CatCo is all Andrea has left after the Obsidian failure last season (which is apparently still cannon for her) so it actually makes sense she’s getting serious about it now to me John.
True, Andrea was a good aspect to this episode so it didn’t fully suck but still she was a flash of good in an otherwise frustrating to me episode to me once more because everything is overall just so surface level in handling – there’s no meaningful depth to anything right now in my opinion, it’s like they’re just going throw the motions until the end and it sucks to watch knowing what this series once upon a time could do and I don’t just mean in season one but three had some quality stuff with Sam too and now we don’t even have that I feel where yes half the season may be crap but the rest is good. We’re just in coast mode all around I feel and I don’t like it!
So much else has just popped up from Krypton why not another Kalex…there’s probably like a whole shipment of them on Argo, maybe she got it from her mom? ?
No Daryl, they can’t be bothered to interact with us is what you mean to say. *sigh* We only got the network the rights to do your show Superman and we’re like contractually obligated to include your name every other episode I feel but sure never mention us, that’s fair. ? This is just one of the reason why I will never watch that show CW.
“Crisis On Infinite Earths” ??????!
There’s 3 super people on Earth John, don’t forget Sam! 😉
To be fair season four was not that bad, I know you hated t John but it wasn’t that bad to me, not the best but not the worst either so I don’t mind it staying in continuity. Season five is trash because it was just surface material like this except there was no plot to it at all, it was a burnt season in the name of focusing on Crisis so the only way to improve it would be to have a plot; Andrea was cool but Leviathan should have been a company Lillian was mixed up in not ancient aliens because that’s too big for the world as our character isn’t that old so them popping up then just raised more questions to why then than anything. They could have let Kelly be a therapist – that would go a long way given how many characters need it but they refuse to let anyone last named Olsen be a solid character and so yeah they’ve basically killed her off in terms of car from me too. 🙁 Season six could have been improved by not involving Crisis – our characters never cared about it to start with and it’s our last year and the one connection Kara made from it was gone so why even bother? After that just do more character work as I said but they don’t for some reason; Alex should be the DEO director, Lena should be their scientist, Nia is our reporter, Brainy is everyone’s sidekick, and J’onn and Kara are the muscle doing missions which are brought on by Nxy and the whole theme is who are you as a person and what levels are there to someone – just because Lena and Alex act shady are they evil? Just because Kara is a hero does she have to be ultra good or could she let Nxy go because she’s not as bad as she thinks and has legit reasons to be doing what she’s doing? Again little things and it all could be so much better but they don’t put in the effort! I want to see care for this show as it ends because I’d like for the network to miss it as much as we will but it doesn’t feel that way and they’re not even trying to change that feeling so yeah I think it’s too late to be happy with things at this point. An Alex spin off announcement would have me happy about it if they confirmed it would have a full season one but they’ve pretty much crapped so much on poor “Supergirl” that there’s no coming back to full on joy at this point. 🙁
Maid Of Steel definitely makes me happy, but also sad too now in part because I know it’s going to end soon as well. 🙁
Sadly COVID or not Geoff I don’t think they would mix shows because again I don’t think they care about “Supergirl” enough any more to do a crossover even though we did establish their new beloved series focusing on Superman. I’m bitter, I know, but like the network I don’t care so bring on the judgment. ? to Geoff’s feedback!
Even if they did air the cousins together I would still care more about Kara because while I like certain versions of Clark (JLU cartoon by Bruce Timms, Henry Cavill, and Dean Cain as examples) I’ve seen his story a hundred times before so by being someone we know less on Kara is automatically more interesting. Also no offense to anyone playing Superman on TV but also you can’t out charm Melissa so visually she’s also going to be more appealing. 🙂 Again John they don’t respect us anymore.
I agree Leslie, yay to no William/Kara! 🙂 Only if Kara works promotions would I accept her running a part of CatCo. Don’t be mean to Bad Trash like that. Ha. To be fair Leslie, even under the DEO banner you’re sometimes going to get shady stuff because Alex just be shady sometimes, ha; I love her but she is an antihero and that needs to be embraced more! So true, you know Alex knows how to open booze. Ha!
She wants to adopt someone…she can co-parent Ruby Arias – I’m just saying! 😀 Listen I want to like Kelly and I did in season four but I can’t do Kelly/Alex, they just remind me so much of James and Kara and how badly that got messed up so for a good 50% that’s why I can’t ship them. Other reasons include that Kelly has no personality now and the fact the writers think kissing equals a relationship that’s long term and that’s not the case. They try but I can’t do Alex/Kelly as more than just friends; which is okay as Alex could use of those! 🙂
Woo Nxyly! 🙂 The fact the kid is in multiple episodes just screams adoption at the end, probably with the brother also. It would make sense to get siblings given both are siblings.
A great sign off but arguably should have been saved to play for the final MOS new episode recap.
Had a super busy week last week and sending in feedback on time completely alluded me for all of the shows.
While this episode was certainly better than the Phantom Zone disaster that was the beginning of this season, the story and plot (aside from the actual exploration of Kara’s PTSD) still feels very uninspired. I know you affectionately call the antagonist BadTrash, but it’s still, just kind of… bad.
At least Kara is back with everyone, Zor-El is leaving (but why were you here in the first place? Just for that conversation on the balcony this episode?), and there was at least semblance of a coherent and put together episode here.
Andrea suddenly cares about Catco being hard-hitting journalism? The Central City Citizen is ranked #4 for national news source whilst being less than 2 years old and having 3 employees?? Catco is an entire skyscraper of employees and products!!
While a nice trajectory for Lena in facing her trauma surrounding her mother, I hope Lena heading to Ireland does not spell Katie being absent for a few episodes. Can we follow Lena to Ireland? That would be something worth watching.
Yay to no William & Kara! I already need a longwinded chat with the writers for what they’ve done the past few seasons, but if they had tried to shove that into this final season, the chat would be extremely one-sided.
I’m loving that they are at least bringing some sort of continuation and closure with Nia and her mother in the coming episodes.
Hey, I’m getting an episode named after me this week, so I am ready to tune into that!

Well this review is short and sweet. It was a garbage episode full of garbage writing and it did not work at all.
As Shaun the Sheep would say, “It was that BAAAAAAD.”
Monty
Points for using “Shaun The Sheep” in something; if you can come up with a “Timmy Time” connection you get double points. 🙂
*proceeds to hum the theme to ‘Shaun The Sheep’ and some of ‘Timmy Time’*
I forgot to rate it. Acting, directing, writing. = 0/0/0 out of 5/5/5.
