Supergirl continues to protect the planet. Many miles away in the Arctic, Dr. Jones is researching how to save our planet from a climate catastrophe. He wants to spread a message of conservation. Deep beneath the ice lays an organism that will consume the energy of everything it touches. It leaches all power leaving only empty shells in its wake.
Another thing that can zap energy away from you is the act of keeping a secret. The process of keeping a piece of yourself hidden. Kara Danvers understands that well. Until very recently few people knew of her super powers. What if your secret will cause people to view you in a different way? This is what Alex is thinking about. What will change if she admits she has feelings for Maggie?
In this episode we get a very realistic portrayal of what it feels like to come out as gay. Many of the words the writers use for our heroes match what I said many years ago. I still remember how thankful I was to the writers and our leading ladies for giving us this story. Even though that part of my story has passed I was glad for the next generation to have this story showing a positive and realistic coming out story.
As we move through this rewatch I love to see our team grow in strength together. It was fun to watch Supergirl take down Parasite. I hope you will join Green Butterfly and Silver Vox as we continue this journey with our Super Friends. Please remember donβt let a secret drain the life out of you. It is OK to say what you are feeling out loud. This is your eye in the sky Green Butterfly. Have a super week.

Some blog post comments…
A GREAT choice for banner for this episode!
*stares at you both* I hope you both feel ashamed for the fact you ruined an otherwise perfectly good blog post. You know what you did at the end. NEVER EVER post Guardian content; boo you on, boo on your computers, and boo on your internet connections for letting you post that!
Wish List For S6…
I’ll do the super short version first – I want season one quality writing and care but using some season six characters. By that I mean Lex can beat it I don’t want him anywhere in the final run unless it’s Maxwell Lord appearing because that’s the Lex I can support! π
On an expanded note, I want to still see season one quality writing because I want to know the crew still cares about the story and characters. Season five was rough as we all know and going back even season four was bad so for the final 20 episodes it would be great if we could end on the high quality wise we started with!
I want DEO Director Alex Danvers; it’s been 5 years we’ve been waiting for her and we honestly have yet to see her for a full season so I would love to see her. I would also like to waste an episode setting up her spin off because seriously CW how have you not picked that up yet? First you make the STUPID mistake of cancelling “Supergirl” and now you’re going to risk letting Chyler Leigh as Alex go? That’s just so foolish!
I want the series to end with the Danvers sisters as they are the heart of the series; give me Alex and Kara having a moment before Kara says she has to go and we see her flying off in the sky as the theme music plays because oh my heart there if it could end on a high as good as that. β€οΈ
This one is probably wishful thinking but I would love to see J’onn/Eliza happen because I just feel they would be adorable together. π
I want John’s “Midvale II” storyline to happen because that would be just a treat as an Alex fan to see! I know Dean Cain is problematic but I feel he’d have to come back given it’s the final season. It’s like Andrew Kriesberg, you don’t have to like the man but appreciate the work and Dean is Jeremiah.
Ditch every Lex and Leviathan story and wrap up instead Max and the Omegahedron! Bring back the Bizzaro story and show if Alex ever did try to help her or if that was all talk. Bring back Sam for a time to show her with powers and maybe team a Reign redux before Kara helps her so Kara can finally have the trained she always wanted.
Embrace anti hero Alex Danvers!
Tell me Jimmy is doing well as the newsman he always should have been instead of the tin can.
Give me a deserving end for all my favorite characters!
If they’re going to do Kelly/Alex make it feel like its on thing instead of a consolation prize for Kara/James fans. Don’t be scared to let them argue and show them as a real couple not some perfect pair; if they are a perfect pair then give them something to debate so it’s not all kissy face all the them. Remember they’re individuals too and not just a couple!
Give me therapist Kelly Olsen! Seriously we know everyone in this group could use some work. Ha.
And of course – bring back Cat Grant because it’s not a final run if Cat isn’t there at least once!
On to the podcast…
Kara is an adorable drunk. π
Mon was a child…in behavior of course.
CW is ending the series so smart is no longer in their vocabulary.
“I know I won’t be able to let Alex go in 20 episodes” – SAME!!! I could gush so much about Alex and Chyler. I love Melissa don’t get me wrong and she is my Kara, but Alex is my admitted favorite; given how much Kara loves her sister I think she would understand this choice. π
I’ll be honest and say the only likable part for me of season two was Alex’s journey; her story easily saved season two from being as bad as four or even five! Yes Lena helped but season two to me is about Alex and why I even care to own the season. Again for me the ranking of seasons goes 1, 3, 2, 4, and currently 5.
“And the shaping of Mon El” – *snores*.
*checks in only to hear John mentioning Guardian – snoring continues*
*Justina begins talking about her personal experiences that mirror Alex’s* Oh we’re back to important things now; I’m up! π Thanks Justina for sharing your peace! I was SO happy when Alex came out because I felt like if anyone was going to be able to allow the story time it would be her as a lead; again all respect to the first Sara Lance but she was always part of an ensemble and never really the lead so while we had Nyssara first we never got this story because Sara wasn’t the lead like Alex is. Also Alex bucked a lot of stereotypes that came with queer women and queer people in general so ever since season one I was hoping it would be her and when they announced a character would be coming out pre season two I was hoping even more it would be her and so to have Alex be this person and for the plot to be done SO well it really was perfection and I don’t think we could have asked for anything better to watch. I know it’s not the same as a title character like Batwoman but it’s pretty freaking close and definitely deserves all the awards and respect this subject got attention wise. Thank you Chyler and writers for handling it all so amazingly!
Is Green Butterfly’s SCIENCE NITPICKS going to become a segment now? I feel it should be a segment. π
“we’re just going to wander around in our puffy coats” – lol!
To be honest, Winn trained Mon more than Kara ever did so again I say if Sam returned she would be Kara’s first trainee because Winn did Mon and Clark never needed her help and Brainy did Nia so al the people she was suppose to train she really didn’t, ha. Again all the more reason to bring back Sam! π I TOTALLY agree though Daryl in that Kara/Mon was toxic for each other! Again I agree – James should have stayed a newsman only! Great feedback Daryl!
It’s called budget as to why J’onn looked like Hank in the bar. π
My tolerance for Mon lasted all of 5 episodes I think and then they screwed him up much like they did Guardian so yeah I’m not a Mon fan because of the cliche handling of him. Ha.
I love hearing you talk about the sisters Leslie. π
“Poll: Do you miss James?” – I didn’t see poll this week in the post Justina. π I am going to smash C repeatedly though as the option of course! Ha. I’ve been missing James since the end of season one because the guy we got from 2×01 on was not the James Olsen I liked in season one. I’m very much with Daryl in that they should have kept him a newsman only because especially in the last few years James could have been important to talk about disinformation and how ratings are important but so are facts and you have Lena or Andrea with the money side saying you can’t get facts to people if they aren’t tuning in as if were and there’s that to mirror the real world as they liked to do at times and again he could have held characters accountable and what organic drama would have come from that so yeah I definitely miss season one James but the James that came after that no.
The sisters are the most important!
Adding to the wishlist – more seasons of course!
