Follow The White Rabbit is the tale of Jim Gordon following the Mad Hatter’s clues and going down the rabbit hole.  But Wonderland does not await him.  Only pain and hard choices await Jim and everyone he loves!

Follow The White Rabbit:

GU41 - Follow The White Rabbit - Tea Party

The Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel) has not been idol since his sister’s death.  He holds Jim responsible and is going to follow up every lead.  The Hatter has done his homework.  He has researched Jim’s family, career and lovers.  Barbara gave him most all of the info he needed on Valerie and Lee.  Armed with the knowledge about Jim and how he ticks, he draws Jim into the game.

He gives a “white rabbit” (an albino man who has been hypnotized) for Jim to follow.  Jim first faces a no win situation.  Save the hypnotized boy from the truck or save the hypnotized newlyweds from jumping.  Jim saves the boy and is crushed when the couple jump.  Next Jim has to follow the rabbit’s clue to a warehouse.  He and the Hatter again have it out over the phone, but the Hatter has the upper hand and has lured Valerie there, with the promise of a story, and kidnaps her. Jim is on the move had again as to face an on the nose choice, a doctor or a journalist.  Kill one or both are electrocuted.  The GCPD lead by Barnes (not using a crutch anymore) and Bullock show up but not in time to save the victims.

Jim has had a conversation with Barbara a.k.a. Stabby Babs.  She admits that she gave Jervis all the info he needed.  Now the  Mad Hatter now has Lee and Valerie and things are not looking good.

Although Barnes is displaying some troubling signs (facial distortion, eyes changing, and strength enough to leave handprints in a solid metal chair). He is still there, enough to give Jim good advice. Again Jim has to follow the white rabbit’s leading, and He grabs Lee’s fiancé, Mario and they head to Mario & Lee’s house.

Jim finds the tea party already in session.  The Hatter has both of the pieces of Jim’s heart captive and held at gunpoint by the Terrible Tweeds. No matter how hard Jim tries to convince Jervis that Alice died to escape him, the Hatter will not follow.  He is mad and convinced the only payback is the have Jim choose the woman he loves more.  Then the Hatter will kill that one causing Jim to live for a long time in misery.  Mario sneaks in, grabs his gun and comes to the rescue, er not really.  Jervis has thought ahead and switched out the clip for an empty one.  Jim has to choose, but he doesn’t follow his heart, he follows his brain.  He says to kill Lee so the Hatter shoots Valerie, Jim’s “true love.”  The Hatter and the Tweeds escape. Then Jim, Lee and Mario care for Valerie.  Jim followed his brain because he knew that Valerie had a better chance of pulling through with two doctors looking after her.

The questions of Jim’s love life and the Hatter’s power over those people are still hanging in the air.  What will follow next?  We will have to wait and see!

Follow Your Heart:

GU51 - Follow The White Rabbit - Penguin Ed

Oswald has thought long and hard about what Ed has done for him.  He is taking his mother’s advice and trying to follow his heart.  He wants to tell Ed he loves him.  Ed is happily handling Oswald’s mayoral business and the Penguin’s underworld business with great vigor.  Butch is still in the wind and Ed can’t find him.  (He is being hidden by Tabitha, who may or may not be rekindling to him.) He does not realize or guess at Oswald’s true feelings.  Oswald tries to tell Ed but fails.

Later after Oswald endures a long PR visit to a school, he finds a loner student.  He gives him advice to seek out friends and if they don’t like him to push them down the stairs.  He again tries to express his love for Ed but fails.  He does invite him to dinner.  Ed accepts and says he is bringing the wine.

We see Oswald telling Ed his true feelings at the dinner table.  But Ed is not there, it is just rehearsal.  Ed is mulling over the perfect wine to bring.  When a woman strikes up a conversation with him, Ed is stunned.  He can’t follow because he is seeing double.  The woman looks like Ms. Kringle, but it is not her.  Her name is Isabella.  She offers up a riddle to the Riddler and he decides to follow the white haired Isabella instead of being led down the rabbit hole of love with Oswald.

Closing Thoughts:

I (Geoff) will never ship Oswald and Ed as anything other than partners in crime.  So I’m thrilled to see the Riddler led away by new love.  Jim is still not free of the schemes and influence of the Mad Hatter.  Gotham is not safe when he is around!  We don’t have Batman to take him down.  So Jim must gather the forces of good to team up, cancel the tea party and sack the Hatter.  This was a fun episode but not my favorite of the season.

News:

Next Week:  Next week’s ep is “Red Queen”
