New Day Rising and new changes ahead for Gotham! Jim as a new break through with Lee. Oswald is the new mayor of Gotham and the Court of Owls have a new toy to play with! What will this new day bring for Gotham Undercover?
New Day Rising:
It is a new day in Gotham and a new day in Gotham Undercover land. Karen is back with her new mixer and she and I (Geoff) had a great time discussing this episode!
Gotham is unsafe with the Jervis a.k.a. The Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel) on the loose and this new day has him searching out help. He is in the market for thugs with flair to help him steal Alice (Naian Gonzalez Norvind) from the GCPD. After talking with Barbara, he finds the Terrible Tweed’s. Five Luchador wrestling brothers vs the GCPD is not a fair fight. Jervis grabs Alice and almost has Jim dead, but Barnes knocks Jim out.
Two Tweed’s are dead and a third in custody. Harvey knows their history and plays on that and the honor of Luchadores to get the location of the Hatter’s hideout. Harvey springs Jim and they converge on the warehouse. Jervis has dressed up Alice like Alice in Wonderland and put a tea party at her feet. He strong arms her compliance by taking her blood. He says he will use it if she does not comply. We learned earlier that Jervis became the Mad Hatter to control Alice and has an incestual love for her. Harvey and Jim take out the Tweed’s and go after the Hatter, but Alice falls to her death. She is impaled on a pipe and her blood later infects Barnes.
New Day New Jim:
Jim is still under the Mad Hatter’s spell. He wants to help but any ticking sets off Jervis’ programing to make Jim want to kill himself. He almost walks into traffic to kill himself but is stopped by a bystander. He realizes that he needs this programing broken. Jim has to go to see stabby Babbs for a lead on the Jervis. She calls it desperate but she saviors every second and now he owes her one.
He appeals to Barnes. Barnes gives him some good advice about letting go and then gives him time to talk with Alice. She shares her story but also the fact the the Hatter’s programing takes root due to sadness, loss, and grief. Jim talks with Lee when he is recovering from Barnes knockout blow. Thanks to Lee Harvey is able to spring him.
Jim in confronted by the Hatter and everything begins to skink in. A new day dawns as he lets go of Lee and his pain. He is able to break the Hatter’s spell and come back to fight.
Later he gets to talk with Lee and let her know how he feels. They truly have positive movement and he is happy that she is happy. It is a good start and hopefully we can soon see a return to the Jim we know and love.
New Day New Mayor & Chief of Staff:
Oswald & Ed are working together to help Oswald win the mayoral race. Butch wants to help Oswald and himself. Here we see the divide between an equal helping an equal and a underling trying to make a path for his boss. Butch has been bribing the election officials, but Ed sees it. The two play cat an mouse around the Penguin.
Butch convinces the criminals that Oswald’s mayorship will be a boon for them all. But Ed has gone and taken back all the bribe money. He knows that Oswald can win clean and it will make him that much more secure. Oswald does win and Ed comes out on top. Oswald makes Ed his chief of staff and Butch gets bumped down to doing the dirty work. Ed will need to stay on his toes. Butch is not a genius, but he is a powerful man.
New Day New Trouble:
5 and Selina have crashed Bruce’s Rolls and are hoofing it. Selina goes to a gambling parlor to steal some money, but she gets caught and is about to loose her fingers when 5 steps in and takes out the bad guys. They escape but 5 is winded, because he has been cut badly. He has to reveal his true identity to Selina.
He confesses that he was a blank slate and seeing the love between she and Bruce caused a longing in him. She calls it friendship but 5 knows better. She talks about how she has no family and the fact Bruce is pretty messed up. 5 steals a kiss from her and has her contact Bruce.
Bruce and Alfred show up and he confesses it all to them. He gives Bruce a wake up call about his thoughts for Selina. He then jumps several stories down and walks off intending to leave Gotham. But he is captured by Kathryn and the Talon. Kathryn claims that the Court of the Owls are 5’s parents. They have been looking for him for a long time. He is in their clutches now and that is bad news!
Closing Thoughts:
This week was very positive in so many ways it was a new day for our Gothamites. We saw Jim start to move out of his funk. Oswald wins the election fair and square and has a true friend in Ed. 5 holds a mirror up to Selina & Bruce and shows that they have more than a friendship. We however do have darkness lingering, is it ever truly sunny in Gotham. Alice is dead and her blood has infected Captain Barnes. Butch is angry because Ed has separated him from Penguin. Plus the Court now has 5 and that is not good news. Over all a great episode. (Thanks again to John McGrail who helped us out the last two weeks. Next Week: Next week’s ep is “Anything for you” Crime in Gotham is at an all-time high, as Penguin struggles to uphold his promises to the city. Meanwhile, Butch goes down a dark path with the infamous Red Hood Gang and Bruce begins to investigate Ivy’s whereabouts in the all-new “Mad City: Anything for You” episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, Oct. 17 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
