What is worse than a crime?  Missing out on this season of Gotham! This mid-season finale brought us Theo’s chess game put in checkmate, an uneasy alliance of Jim & Penguin, Bruce finally with the upper hand, and the rise of Mister Freeze!  We can’t wait for the second half of the season, can you?

I have loved this season of Gotham.  I cannot wait to see what the second half brings us.  This episode was very good, but I will not say the best of the season so far, but good.  The reason I say that is the editing.  It felt a little forced with cutting between the story lines.  But other than that it was great.

Theo is back in his quarters but still uneasy.  He takes it out on those close to him.  He is mad at Tabitha because she and her crew let Alfred get away in the junkyard.  She tries to talk about their history together and how she know Theo, but it just will not cut it.  Next Silver tries to pull a sick day so she will not have to see Bruce sacrificed.  Theo knows she developed feelings for Bruce and tells her she is not worthy.  He issues a challenge.  Make Bruce fall back in love with you and kiss you or you are out of the family or dead.  To Silver who has no family but Theo they are the same.  Silver gets dolled up and heads to Bruce’s cell.  She tries her best to sweet talk him, but sees it is not working.  She tries to draw sympathy with them both being orphans but it is still not working.  So she stages a break-out.  But Theo and the brothers recapture them and throw her in the cell with Bruce.  With no hope she tells her whole story and Theo’s conditions to Bruce.  She loves him, but he does not love her.  He is the stronger of the two and even facing death he does what is best to help her.  He confesses love and kisses her in front of Theo. He knows it would be worse than a crime to let her be killed.

Jim awakens to the newly minted duet of Ed & Oswald in Ed’s apartment. Oswald shifts immediately into Penguin mode telling Jim he owes him his life.  Then pushes the need for an alliance to stop Theo.  Jim has seen that law enforcement alone can’t take Theo down and neither can the criminal element.  A wary alliance has to be forged to bring Theo down.  Meanwhile, Ed is at the station where Barnes is grilling Leslie about her connection and the location of the fugitive James Gordon.  He slips her his address, in riddle form, so she can meet with Jim.  She arrives to find Jim & Penguin’s forces getting ready.  She does her best to talk him out of it but to not effect.  Until she announces to Jim that they are expecting.  He is set to leave with her and leave the job to Penguin.  Alfred escaped Tabitha but was taken in by the cops.  Mr. Fox is there as well trying to convince them Theo kidnapped Bruce & Alfred.  Even with Alfred’s story, Barnes does not have the evidence he needs.  But Bullock, Fox and Alfred are ready to go after Theo but they need Jim.  Ed’s riddle is easily figured out by Fox and off they go to Ed’s.  They arrive in time to prevent Jim from leaving.  Leslie gives her begrudging leave for Jim to help.

The Gray Posse (made up “bad” (black hats) and “good” (white knights) members) heads out when Selena tells them she can get them in.  They make it in and up ALL those steps in time to spar off with the Brotherhood.  Bullock saves the day and stops Brother Creel from killing Bruce.  Theo, Tabitha and Sliver escape in the madness.  Theo and Tabitha are going to parachute out to safety but there is no chute for Silver.  Theo knew Bruce was playing when he kissed her and is going to leave her.  Tabitha snaps and she takes out Theo.  She and Silver escape and Theo is left.  Jim is set to finish off Theo but Barnes stops him.  Penguin knocks out Barnes.  Jim and Penguin kill Theo.  Jim you crossed the line, would it be worse that a crime to let Theo live?  I don’t know but you evidently thought so!

We close the episode with Alfred and Selena forming an uneasy alliance of protection over Bruce.  Jim and Leslie meet and he tells her Theo is dead and ask her to marry him.  Meanwhile Theo’s body, complete with the Penguin’s umbrella in his mouth, is taken to Indian Hill where Professor Strange has great plans for him.  Lastly we see Mister Freeze on the loose in Gotham.

This episode closed one great arc of story and opened the door for the next arc.  I have been well pleases with how the characters have been handled this season and have enjoyed the twists and turns the writers have given us.  Karen and I enjoyed talking about this episode.  We have enjoyed your feedback (written and spoken) so far this season.  This podcast cannot succeed without YOU, our Undercover Agents!  We have a hiatus ahead of us.  So let’s take the time to do some Batman reading.  Also use the Facebook group to speculate on what will happen in the second half of the season.  We are a community, so let’s keep the conversation going!  Also share how good the season is so folks will catch up.  It would be worse that a crime 🙂 to have them miss this season.
