In the movie “The Dark Knight,” the Joker asks “You wanna know how I got these scars?”  It seems like no one in Gotham is immune to scarification.  Some are scarred physically, some scarred mentally and many scarred both ways.  Burns, lost hands, lost eyes, and mental scar-tissue are all dealt out in the process of getting a knife.  It seems fitting, doesn’t it!

We learn that Theo’s quest to take over Gotham and remake it is a family vendetta.  His family was scarred by the Wayne Family.  The Wayne’s cut off Caleb’s hand, banished him and wiped the Dumas family off the map.  Theo and the religious sect, Court of Owls?, are working to take revenge on Bruce and Wayne Enterprises.  I (Geoff) personally think that the telling of the Wayne vs Dumas family drama could have been much longer.  As much as I like the double date story line, I think it could have been sacrificed for the history tale.  I watched that section several times to get it all.

Theo has Penguin as a pawn.  Penguin has no leverage and his old ways of getting close to the boss will not work on Theo.  Theo has him get Bunderslaw, find arsonists and get back the Wayne knife used to scar his ancestor.  Penguin is mentally scarred and ends ups cutting off Butch’s hand to get him into Theo’s camp.

The Pike family of arsonists are still loyal to Fish (imagine that with a name like Pike who would doubt it).  So Selina has to get Butch in the door.  She knows Bridgit the “sister.”  The Pikes take the job.  The youngest brother is surprised by the Strike Force at Merc the Wal-Mart for Gotham’s criminal element.  He is shoplifting C4 and Jim’s bullet blows him away literally.  That leaves the Pike’s with a problem.  But after threatening to throw Bridgit out she agrees to help.  She gets the knife but is burned.  But her scars and the thrill of the heist set her going to become Firebug.  Her brothers use her on the next job but she is stopped by the Strike Force.  She gets away with the help of Selina but not before fatally wounding Garrett.

Barnes and the GCPD are scared by the loss and ready to attack.  Theo comes by and Jim promises to endorse him for mayor if Theo can get the GCPD the support they need.  He agrees.  When He gets home, Father Creel is there waiting for him.  Warriors are on the way to Gotham and Bruce is going down.

No one escapes this episode without any scars, except maybe Theo and Tabitha.  Gotham is no easy place to live.  To survive and thrive you must fight through the pain and endure the scarification!

Karen & Geoff discuss this and much more!
