This content has been moved and can now be found here.
On this episode 59 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Kyle, Mark and I talk through Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 8, which is titled, Is Anybody Out There? This was written by co-executive producer Michael Alaimo, and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis.
We have a very important announcement!
We thought, after five years, we were ready to strike out on our own, and as a result, we are leaving the Golden Spiral Media network. We would like to thank Darrell for the opportunity to podcast with GSM over the last five years, and thank him for allowing us to take our podcasts with us. Going forward, the podcasts that we do will be a part of our new network, which is called Talk Through Media, and will consist of the following podcasts:
- The Walking Dead Talk Through and Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, hosted by Mark, Kyle (Fear only) and me;
- The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, hosted by Ruthie and me;
- A new podcast, The Star Trek: Picard Cast, hosted by Ruthie and me, coming soon!
- And⦠more podcasts to come!
We are excited to start our new endeavor, and we hope to have everything set up by the time we return in three weeks for the FTWD mid-season premiere!
If you are listening to us via our TWDTT/FTWDTT feed on whatever podcast app you choose, you should be OK going forward. When we make the change, it should be transparent, and the feed should continue to work. However, if you don’t see an episode from us in about three weeks, several days after the mid-season premiere, then there might be an issue.
If you listen to us via the goldenspiralmedia.com website, the episodes will no longer appear here. Just go to walkingdeadtalkthrough.com and you will be redirected to the new location from there!
We have more feedback for last week’s episode… S5E8 coverage starts at :…
Now that we have our announcement out of the way, we have to share more feedback we received for last week’s episode, S5E7 Still Standing. Discussion on last week’s episode starts at 34 minutes and 22 seconds into the podcast and ends at into the podcast.
A better episode!
It seems that most people agree that this episode was better than the last several episodes, although Kyle didn’t like it as much as Mark or I did.
Ratings went up!
Wondering about the ratings for S5E8 Is Anybody Out There? Well, they were up this week! got a 0.48 in the 18-49 demographic with 1.599 million viewers, which is up from the last week’s all-time low of 0.34 and 1.393 million viewers. Talking Dead, on the other hand, after weeks of not being on, came back to what might be the lowest ratings of that show. It only got a 0.07 in the 18-49, with only 373,000 viewers.
That’s it for Is Anybody Out There?
So Is Anybody Out There? We think so! We’ll be busy over the next three weeks getting our podcasts set up at their new home, and we’ll post a link to them here once we have everything finalized. I’m fine with new people, I just HATE the Morgan takeover.
Daniel is definitely an OG, but because of Ruben’s outside schedule I place him as the number 1 recurrer more than not.
I saw Michonne is leaving TWD so they could use the merger for help too now it seems!
Team Dungeons & Dragons! π
WOAH Brian, Morgan will NEVER fill in for Madison! He is not ambiguous enough in his actions, he is not conflict creating enough when the plot needs it, he does not lead to others having moments to shine or reveal backstory, he’s not tactical enough to create good believably action moments…ok he’s more supportive arguably than Madison but he is no where near the level of Madison when it comes to this series! Gimple wishes he was as good as Madison but he’s not!
I don’t fault Lennie James, if you’re offered the lead of a series of course you’ll probably take it, I fault whoever made the stupid decision to kill Madison and it seems they killed her just to bring him on because this wasn’t like Frank who wanted to leave – they just took the job from Kim basically; I fault Morgan because he’s the face of the takeover and again brings nothing interesting to the series in my opinion. As a side character maybe he would work because he has some Nick like qualities but as the lead he just does not work for me at all. Also again I don’t like the fact a TWD character is leading FEAR yet no FEAR person has been on TWD, that’s why I say this was a takeover not a crossover. As you said I just do not like Morgan at all! Lennie is just an actor though so no shade at him unless he did have a hand in saying it’s the lead or nothing so he kind of had a hand in all of this but you can’t say for sure he did so I give him the benefit of the doubt and he thought it was co-lead maybe and Gimple and company went full on stupid to get rid of Kim for some reason; Lennie has been playing Morgan this way for years I would assume so it’s his deal but again the thing is the character just doesn’t work for me certainly in the leader spot and honestly even on the series as just a character I don’t think he would be someone I like because Morgan is bland to me kind of like I never got the appeal of Nick. That said I do get Nick a bit more than I did because of the whole drug survivor thing and how he’s used that to survive all of this as long as he did but still he’s meh to me. I stand by my stance of Morgan (and all he represents with the takeover) is one of the worst things ever to happen to this series as it has not been the same since he joined in.
Even I can admit Grace makes Morgan somewhat watchable so awesome job there Grace! Still outside of that he wouldn’t be someone I care about I feel.
I definitely sweated Wendell surviving Mark; I’m kind of surprised everyone survived so far given all they’ve been doing but they could be gearing up to red wedding this season for all we know so we’ll see, sadly no one said everyone had to be in S6 or in it for long so. I was also kind of sweating John getting sucked out of the back of the plane when he stood up; I didn’t think they’d do it because he’s popular but they’ve killed popular people before so.
Unsurprisingly I am going to HARD disagree with you Steve on Morgan offering to train Alicia because again – butterfly knife. Also if Nick couldn’t get her to zen I don’t but Morgan can. π
Ha, Kyle did you give this episode 7 points alone for the gas and batteries? π I knew he was going to love that.
Can you watch those episodes on YouTube or stream via AMC without signing in because I’m not going to go out of my way for Morgan Brian to watch stuff I’ll be honest. Also I kind of feel like you shouldn’t have to watch TWD to appreciate a character who’s suppose to be interesting you know; it would be like requiring someone who watches just TWD to watch Alicia centric episodes if she showed up over there and they didn’t get her. If a character is interesting show me on my show, don’t make me have to watch or read 20 other things to find out about them – I should want to do that after seeing them on my show not doing it to understand them on my show you know? It’s like “Iron Man 3” making you watch “Avengers” to fully get what’s going on – you shouldn’t have to do that. It’s only 3 episodes though so I am up for trying but I’ll be real honest again and say if they’re hard to find to watch I’m not going to do it for him because he is the face of the takeover and I’m pissed over that, they’re making him the go to person and that doesn’t work logically for me, and again I find him boring so I’m not going to work for him.
I took the tree message as from a stranger.
A lot of “plot for the sake of plot” writing this season; thankfully it isn’t as bad as S4B but there is a lot of dropped topics. Again good ideas arguably, bad execution/follow through.
Also how did Daniel know where they would be? Is that the only landing strip around? How did he know they’d be there that day? I like Daniel there don’t get me wrong but it’s so many “What?”s to the end of this episode.
Speaking of Dwight, this just adds to my Morgan issues because how is it I know nothing on him also but don’t find him annoying yet Morgan I do? It’s because they use Dwight like a typical new character coming in with one person and working into the group and not having his way be the gospel as it were; the mishandling of Morgan has just hurt him so much so again I doubt I will ever like him, at least not this FEAR version. Maybe Morgan was more interesting on TWD but here he just a dud to me; I take it back some maybe if they had Morgan come in like Dwight and just been a new character to us with Alicia as the lead I wouldn’t hate Morgan as much, I still can’t say he’d be my favorite but I could take him better but instead they killed Madison and gave Morgan her spot and they have everyone look to him like he knows it all instead of the group mingling or disagreeing and it just makes everything stale, predictable, and not as enjoyable to watch compared to seasons without Morgan.
The “feedback first” format does work well I think because usually fans touch on most episode high points in their comments so you know out most things there but you still allow yourself time to touch on parts that weren’t mentioned in feedback so it feels like on the whole the episode got talked about well. It also makes your podcast unique because usually it’s recap and then feedback so it kind of makes you stand out in that regard. π
As you’ve all said it doesn’t help TD that it’s on after another show instead of being paired with FEAR like it always has; if you’re a live viewer you’re not going to want to always sit up that late to see it and if you DVR it has been off for so long you may have deleted that spot for another timer. I doubt they’ll get back to pairing it in 5B but it really does better as a set instead of having to wait it out.
Are you thinking of the Dark Universe Brian?
No Danya? Another “OG” gone. π
BOO “Endgame”! π‘π‘π‘
“Morgan and the gang” π€’π€’π€’!
