Talking Through Los Muertos
This content has been moved and can now be found here.
The second episode back, “Los Muertos” felt like it should have been the first episode back, but I guess you have to get Nick there first. Both of us enjoyed this episode more than the first one, but there are still kinks that need to be worked out. Unfortunately, when a show isn’t doing it for you as much, or any more, the desire to overlook those little inconsistencies goes away. But we are still watching and looking for the good, and I hope we don’t ever get too negative so as to turn off our listeners. If that is ever the case, won’t you please let us know so that we can course-correct?? However, I have a feeling that fewer and fewer of you are also still watching. But, you’re still listening to us, right? Right…?
Anyway, enough of the desperate pleas for listeners, that’s for later! A few things I didn’t mention in the episode. If you have any answers for me, please lemme know! My first thought when watching this episode was, how did that little girl understand Nick when he asked her what was wrong? Was it tone of voice? Or did she really understand English? The latter seems less likely, but maybe she was just telling anyone who was around what was up. Another thing I was wondering was, does Nick actually get his addictive personality from his mother? She seemed to be hitting that bottle pretty hard, which as we all know is completely foolhardy in the zombie-apocalypse. Finally, the last thing I wanted to add was that Nick seemed like he was sitting pretty thinking he was the cock of the walk, so to speak, after “negotiating” for that second cart, but in this instance, I have to agree with Luciana on this one. It wasn’t his place, and he might very well have placed that whole community in danger. Poor Nick is just such an impressionable young lad, he seems to be easily lead to whatever new ideas are spouted in his general direction. I wonder if something will happen to snap him out of his current mentality.
Well, I was having a few technical difficulties with my computer and went almost the entire episode with little access to the show notes, and because of this, I was distracted from finding the correct link for our Geekinomicon podcast charity event. Here it is. I will also post it in our Facebook group, and this will be the place where you can listen in or watch the fun live! Please help us meet our goal so we can do our part to help stamp out MS.
We got one looooong bit of feedback from Kyle, and one from Judii, but the rest of you leave us wanting more!! We are positively dying to hear from all of you, so please, please, PLEASE leave us your feedback!! That is, if you’re still watching. And, honestly, even if you’re not. Tell us what you had for breakfast…or lunch…or whatever else is going on in your life…

“My first thought when watching this episode was, how did that little girl understand Nick when he asked her what was wrong? Was it tone of voice? Or did she really understand English?” – maybe it was a mix of his going down to her level and his tone.
“Another thing I was wondering was, does Nick actually get his addictive personality from his mother? She seemed to be hitting that bottle pretty hard, which as we all know is completely foolhardy in the zombie-pocalypse.” – according to Madison he gets it from his father.
I DEFINITELY agree with Luciana on the whole grocery store incident – Nick could have gotten them in a lot of trouble…given this show there’s no guarantee they won’t attack them at some point as she feared; as Chris Hardwick said on “Talking Dead” it was just a candy bar you could have shoved that in anywhere in that cart.
I definitely enjoyed this episode more than the premiere because it felt like there was more to engage you rather than having missed opportunities with space in which Nick just walks around; I get having a few establishing shots but they it feels they could have done more with the time such as having the two crashed cars trigger Nick’s memory of Madison’s story which would payoff in this episode better. Another reason I enjoyed this episode more is because I enjoy the characters in it more, Nick is an interesting character but I do want to see Alicia’s side of things as she doesn’t often get attention in her family; the Strand-Madison dynamic is just tons of fun to watch as a viewer. I’m excited for next week!
