In this episode of the Cutting the Cable Podcast, we review the Elgato HDHomeRun and the Roku 2 XS. Both of these bring entertainment into your home in unique ways. The Elgato HDHomeRun offers dual tuners and turns and PC or Mac into a DVR and/or TV. The Roku 2 XS brings the power of streaming content from over 300 channels into your living room. We give a full breakdown and review for each unit and discuss their respective pros and cons.
Hey guys. One thing that is great on Roku & makes it so you can go to other sites to see shows is PlayOn. Also, you can view Hulu without the Plus option. PlayOn does require you to have the app installed on you PC or Mac. Not a great interface but, it does enhance things greatly.
I have a Roku box and the only thing keeping me from dropping my satellite is the lack of tv channels that offer live streaming of their signals to the Roku. As far as I am aware, BYU TV is the only one that does this so you can watch live.
I would love it if a major news channel (CNN, FoxNews…) would offer live streaming.
Everything else I watch I can get over the air or via internet.
Hey guys, I would be interested in a review of Channel Master CM-7000PAL Digital Video Recorder, Black. It is an over-the-air dvr. It sounds really cool but a bit pricy.
OT: Not hardware.
But you guys might be interested in a discussion of cutting the cable (as generic phenomenon, not the podcast) on the latest Gillmor Gang http://techcrunch.com/2011/11/22/gillmor-gang-11-22-11-tctv/
I think around 42:00 in.
You can ask them questions if you have to.
