Welcome to the Don’t Blink Doctor Who podcast! This week we examine the modern fairytale-ish story set in Norway called “It Takes You Away”.
On the edge of a Norwegian fjord, in the present day, The Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz discover a boarded-up cottage and a girl named Hanne in need of their help. What has happened here? What monster lurks in the woods around the cottage? Is there far more here than it seems?
What the Doctor and Team discover next may be one of their biggest discoveries yet. In an episode that has many divided about it’s ending, we grow ever closer to the end of this series.
Join us as we discuss this and more!

Happy belated 50th episode!!! π
Ha Scott-E vest!
I actually wish we’d spent less time in the anti zone and more time in the mirror land because that stuff was more interesting to me than seeing the tunnel over and over again. Maybe they edit the search of the house some to give us more time in the mirror land but I just wanted more time there.
I have to go with Jada on this one Wayne, it would be better if he was dead because he essentially abandoned his kid on top of scaring her to keep her locked away and he caused all kinds of emotional damage where as if he was dead at least she wouldn’t be tainted in her memories of him.
That’s totally fair Jada to say Grace was fridged because what else does her death provide…weight for a darker season? No one else has died so that can’t be it. I’m still upset they even killed her like they did – had there still been a danger I could get her electrocuting the ball but Tim Shaw was gone so it made no sense to do that.
Completely agree with Geoff except for the rating! π
Here’s another question – why didn’t Yaz and Doctor see someone to keep them there? #Thasmin π
I gave this week a 6 because I didn’t have sympathy for Eric at all thus found him annoying and actually thought Hanna would be better off with some stranger than him. We didn’t get enough time in the mirror world sadly. And again the Doctor felt kind of like a passenger until the last few moments so this episode just left me feeling “Meh” on the first viewing which is when I rate episodes.
I’m still listing my top episodes this season as 1) Rosa, 2) Demons Of The Punjab, and 3) The Woman Who Fell To Earth.
Some good finds connecting certain episodes Neil!
Here’s an interesting video discussing the ratings and how yes from episode to episode there is a drop but not a huge one and as a whole the series is still the third highest, if not second highest, in the modern era – https://youtube.com/watch?v=f49NdLnVRxI . The numbers used as the video maker said are just for BBC One as he couldn’t find BBCAmerica numbers to factor in and so when you do that this could be the highest in the modern era.
Thanks Aaron. Yes, if The Doctor ever hired me on to be a companion, my Scott E-Vest would be loaded with food and drink. π
Great point about the mirror-verse not having a representation of a dead person to try and convince Yaz to stay. Interesting omission to the story.
That’s an excellent top-3 episodes of the season so far (not counting the new one we get tonight). I’d go with 1) The Woman Who Fell to Earth, 2) It Takes You Away, and 3) Rosa.
Also, thanks for the ratings info. Since there are so many tv shows and networks to choose from, and so many methods to watch these days, and so many folks watching later on-demand, getting consistent ratings has got to be maddening.
