Welcome back to “Don’t Blink”. This week we examine “Rosa”, the third episode of season 11. In this story we find the Doctor and friends in Montgomery Alabama, face to face with Rosa Parks herself. Quickly it becomes apparent that the Doctor must work to keep the timeline intact. To make matters worse, there is a time traveling racial supremacist fresh out of Stormgate to deal with as well.
This may well be the first “classic” story offered to us from this new Chibnall era. The story was handle with just the right amount of respect and gravitas needed. Malorie Blackman has written a poignant and moving tale of “what if?” Rosa, is a wonderful take on the events of 1955 in Montgomery Alabama when the Civil Rights Movement kicked off.
Join us as we discuss all this and more!

I’m rating this 10 amazingly casted historical fighters out of 10!
EASILY the best part of this episode to me was Vinette Robinson who played Rosa Parks! I also really loved how they didn’t shy away from the tough subjects in this timeframe. It was a great episode!
Krasko was my least favorite part but not enough I would rate it below a 10 because everything else was so good! I’m still unclear on who he meant by “your people” as it could be in reference to skin color or it could be about humans in general. How did he feel this time in particular was the tipping point to whatever effects him centuries for now; yes it’s a big event but surely there were others that lead to even this moment that had he changed them this wouldn’t have gone the way it did if that makes sense? He was just vague to me on his motives so while neat looking I did have some issues with him but again still not enough to rate this anything less than a 10.
Again I’m a newbie to Who really but this may be my favorite episode ever! Before this I was a big “A Good Man Goes To War” fan because 1) Jenny Flint, 2) Amy, and 3) that ending with River was well done plus the other good stuff in the episode but I think now “Rosa” has topped it on the rewatch scale.
If they’re going to bring in anyone from the recurring character list I want it to be Jenny Flint because I feel she deserves expanding on and I think she really get on with this Doctor as she’s fun but also responsible and that’s Jenny’s wheelhouse. I just want more Jenny Flint though; she may not fit in this season but I hope we see more of her in the future. 🙂
Krasko could definitely come back or create issues for Doctor given Ryan zapped him to somewhere new versus killing him! He could encounter Jodie’s Doctor at least 3 times through her run before she takes him down.
I’m not really into Ryan/Yaz personally; I definitely get where some fans are seeing it and it would be a nod to Amy/Roy but I’m just not sold on them myself. Honestly I lean more towards wanting to see Yaz/Doctor than Ryan/Yaz then again something really new would be seeing no romances in this first season so we get to know everyone and how they might fit together. If they did go Yaz/Doctor though I’d want there to be a mutual spilt between them because Yaz either wants to go home and Doctor can’t stay before anything happens to Yaz because love interests of Doctor don’t have the best safety history, then again being a companion is risky also so it doubles her chances thus split one episode before she could be seriously hurt but until that point flirt on! 🙂
