“The Church on Ruby Road”. What a place to end an era and begin an adventure anew. “The Church on Ruby Road” is the first full story showcasing Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor and Millie Gibson as his companion Ruby Sunday. This is also the final episode of Don’t Blink. Wow, what a mixed bag of emotions this is.
The Christmas Specials have returned! Yes, with the return of Russell T. Davies as showrunner we also get a return to Christmas specials. It kinda feels like coming home. With Gatwa at the Helm of the TARDIS and Gibson by his side, im sure RTD will ignite a fire that will burn bright for a long time in the annals of the Whoniverse. Combining a touch of Christmas horror, excellent acting, and a bright vision for the future, we are given an example of just how good Who can be.
In this introduction to the latest iteration of the Doctor, we see that he has apparently healed much of his past trauma. He now considers himself truly an orphan. Which makes it no surprise when he sets his sights on Ruby Sunday, another orphan left alone in the world as a child. Ruby’s string of bad luck seems to have captured the attention of baby eating Goblins who drift through the eddies of time and steal children to feed to their Goblin King. It is up to the Doctor and Ruby to stop these manicle gremlins from harming anyone else or ruining Christmas.
As usual, we review what was liked and not so liked about the episode, discuss listener feedback and go over unanswered questions and share fan theories. Remember, don’t blink, don’t even blink.
