Dear Diary, things have been pretty complicated here in Mystic Falls since The Travelers put an anti-magic border around the town.  Elena  hasn’t been the same since she lost Damon and Bonnie.  The magic of The Travelers caused The Other Side to collapse. Elena, Stefan, and Caroline believed that Damon and Bonnie were lost forever.  Elena felt Damon’s loss most deeply.  She requested her memories of Damon be erased so that she could have a fresh start. We soon discovered that Bonnie and Damon were not gone.  They were in a magical parallel universe where the same day May 10, 1994 was repeated over and over.

Bonnie and Damon found out they were not alone. There was also another witch there named Kai. Kai did not have his own magic but he stole it from others. They discovered that Kai was there in this magical prison because he killed four of his family members.  Bonnie was afraid to do the spell that would take them home because it would allow Kai his freedom. In the end, Bonnie sacrificed herself to send Damon home and keep Kai there. Stefan was relieved to have his brother back.

Since Elena’s memories had been erased the reunion that Damon was hoping for was not quite as sweet.  Meanwhile Kai found a magical knife and used Bonnie’s blood to complete the spell and released himself from prison. He immediately begun stalking his remaining siblings to try to complete his Coven’s Twin Merge Ceremony.  The Ceremony would allow him to absorb his twin sister’s power and become the leader of his Coven. Bonnie was left in the parallel universe all alone. Kai found a huge source of power. The good news is the anti-magic border was removed from Mystic Falls. The bad news is Kai had all the power that it contained. Elena  agreed to meet with Damon to start making new memories in attempt to start over. She never made it for her moment under the mistletoe however, because Kai put a cloaking spell on her and took her away. Damon would not stop meddling with Kai’s plan now he planned to make him pay. Will Bonnie ever get home?  What will happen to Elena? Find out of this and much more on January 22 at 8/7c when the Vampire Dairies returns to the CW.
