Nyssa, aka Oliver’s wife…how weird is it to say that out loud!, is in Star City and she’s brought some of her “friends” and that creates all kinds of problems for our heroes this week. The Shadow and Podcast Overload are here to discuss Season 4 Episode 13 “Sins Of The Father” which originally aired on February 10, 2016. That title is very appropriate as there are all kinds of “daddy issues” for all kinds of characters in this episode.

Shadow didn’t talk about Snowmeggedon, I’m sad. I was looking forward to hearing what new nicknames he came up with for it this week. The Great Northern Ice Rink I guess will have to wait until next week.
I don’t think they would have gotten the Lotus if Nyssa got hurt, she would have destroyed it in her dying act saying Malcolm doesn’t deserve Thea and she can grant her peace; she would have made some epic comment IF she lost which I’m not sure she would have because she could have cut his hand off as well and then killed him because Nyssa wasn’t into no violence for Malcolm, that’s not happening. I agree with Overlord and this may be an unpopular opinion, but I’m actually enjoying the teases regarding who’s in the grave, it’s like “You think it’s (name), maybe because look at what’s happening, no they’re fine. You think it’s (name), we’re close to the reveal so, oh there’s this person too…who is it? It’s (name)! See you after the hiatus. Enjoy speculating about how dark Oliver and Felicity are going to be!”. This is actually a fun yo-yo handled plot for me. That was a great scene between Donna and Felicity; I definitely think she’s smarter than she acts at times.
Does Felicity know about Oliver being married to Nyssa? If not, that could play into her taking off the ring as well. Nyssa disbanding the League was a surprising move because she could have kept it intact but with different rules, given she worked so hard to get it it felt strange she would just end it so soon; she could always have her loyal group with her, but it was surprising. I get the idea behind what Laurel told her, but again she could have just changed things within the settings.
I agree with Green Butterfly, having seen the limo scene as perfectly as it was for the episode it aired in, it does take some joy out of the happy moments because we know it’s coming; the grave ratchets up these possible death scenes for characters, but it also zaps some of the joy from the happy moments because you’re wondering what leads to the split. I still enjoy the happy moments and hope we see many more of them because all of the joy is not gone, but you do spend half of it wondering how long it’ll last. Everyone is assuming William will cause the break, but I still feel it’ll be a combination of things that cause Felicity to take her ring off; I can see her having the same reaction to hearing about William now as she had in the “Legends Of Tomorrow” crossover – she’s not mad he exists just that Oliver didn’t tell her and maybe his debatable reason for keeping quite (Sam asked him to) will be enough for her but then Donna dies and she’s sad and she finds out he’s still married to Nyssa and why hasn’t he tried to get a divorce before now especially after he asked her to marry him…it’ll just leave her feeling like she did asking “Do you really love me?” which I think Oliver does he just fails to realize his protection of her can hurt at times. He needs Laurel to follow him around smacking him and going “No! Bad Oliver!” and explaining why his decision is stupid and then showing him a picture of sad Felicity and saying “No one wants this.” and see if does any better because his solo skills aren’t great. Another reason Felicity may be without her ring in the limo might be if it’s Donna in the grave Donna from what I’ve seen has always been a supporter of Oliver and giving him a chance when he screws up and she was arguably more excited about the wedding than Felicity so if she’s dead and the wedding hasn’t happened yet, planning doesn’t equal married – also Oliver has to divorce Nyssa first, Felicity might have called things off because Donna isn’t there to talk her into giving Oliver another chance regarding William and she’s the one who was so happy about them getting married it would be like “She’s not here so who cares?”. I know that seems dark, but Felicity was a darker person in the limo. It depends on how close the wedding and the grave scene take place, if it’s a ways off then maybe she does take the ring off simply because of Oliver lying and Donna dying just adds to her anger and saddness or maybe it’s off because again he hasn’t divorced Nyssa yet so they’re waiting on that and in the meantime Felicity finds out about William and Donna either continues to try and help Oliver or does turn away from him as well and then she dies and so no ring because again dark Felicity. As close as she is to Thea and Laurel they’re not Donna for Felicity so I don’t think they could talk her back to Oliver’s side like she could; she let him into the limo and she is talking to him in a sort so Olicity isn’t dead in the limo scene, but they’re not rushing to the alter either like we saw this episode. We may see a reversal as some have said where post limo Felicity becomes more brooding like Oliver was before and Oliver is her Felicity trying to show her the light. It’s going to be some good stuff; I can’t remember what host said it but I can see the limo scene or the reveal of the name on the grave being the last shot for the season. As Kevin said, so much being built up over these last few episodes! I will not be sad to see Malcolm go, we can keep John in some way but Malcolm has to go.
“Blood Bonds” is my favorite “Legends Of Tomorrow” episode so far. I like some “time auto corrects” stuff, but I also want to see things able to change because otherwise what is the point? If they can never change anything and Savage always wins it’s basically a cool action mash-up which is neat, but not something worth picking over “Grey’s Anatomy” each week. I feel Captain Cold’s father being caught made sense to him because he wasn’t a great thief really so that was believable but for nothing to change each time for me that would get old. I still want to see Sara being presented with a chance to stop her death and does she take it or allow it to happen knowing she comes back and if she does stop it how does that affect things? Just because Captain Cold’s father went to jail doesn’t mean he was as abusive as before so maybe he did change things we just haven’t seen that yet because time is still catching up to him and maybe in future episodes we’ll see him speak better of his father or maybe he no longer has a sister because his dad went to jail sooner than he originally did; it would just again be very dull to me if nothing ever changed…some stuff staying the same is fine but at least 20% should change and at least 50% of that should be big changes not just small stuff. I want to see characters being treated different due to actions in the past or having new/no memories and how do they effect those events to get memories back; what happens if the bad guys do manage to get future technology how does the team deal with that? There needs to be variety I feel or it’ll get boring.
Some blog post comments…
“Nyssa, aka Oliver’s wife…how weird is it to say that out loud!” – extremely! Nyssa Lance sounds much better! 🙂
