Congratulations on your 100th podcast episode!!!
Are we sure Shadow exists still? Maybe he’s suffering from Flashpoint?
A nice comment by Cammie regarding villains. I’m personally ready for Oliver to just hand the Mayor reigns over to Thea because it’s totally her reign more than his given she’s doing most of the work! I agree I did highly enjoy the actor playing Human Target and I’d be fine seeing him back! Yes to Michelle playing Oliver!
I hope there’s a “new team member of the week” episode because Eve’s getting pretty shafted background wise next to the guys it feels like to me; even beyond this fairly centric Wild Dog episode Renee has had some out front moments contrasting with Oliver over mission approaches and going off on his own so it feels like out of all the members he’s getting the most focus currently. Roy is tied to Felicity through Havenrock so any time there’s a similar situation or guilt/reflectiveness over it you’ll have him interacting and Curtis we’ve been following steadily since last season plus we’re seeing him interact through the Team 2.0, or would it be Team 7.0 by now given the team grew with each addition of characters from season one starting with John helping Oliver?, so we have background on him but Eve there’s really nothing so far beyond her introduction in season 4. She’s been quietly working out in the background so I think it would be a great payoff to see her being the best fighter and marksman for the newbies since Roy took time off, Curtis is definitely still learning (as Shadow has said there’s a difference in being an Olympian and being a trained ninja), and Renee is still undisciplined in his actions so he’s more throwing punches to see which land still rather than striking key points. She’s had a few comments here and there and she’s had a few action moments but compared to the guys it feels like she’s not getting equal focus so I’d love to see an Eve centric episode this season because we know Curtis has personal stuff coming and again Wild Dog always seems pretty heavily featured in episodes and Roy has a steady dose of moments so I feel it’s Eve’s turn. Maybe if we saw each member with a centric episode or interacting with original characters more we’d feel more attached to them instead of just be “Neat, but where’s Felicity/Thea/John/Lyla?”…I intentionally excluded Oliver because he’s everywhere given it’s his show.
Granted given the time we’ve spent with the original characters we’re most likely going to be “Where’s (original character)?!” first but it can’t hurt to have Eve asking Thea or Felicity about dating within the team since she posed that question earlier or Curtis asking John what’s the best fighting positions for him given they’re similar in stature height wise; you could have Lyla talking to Renee about how to balance the discipline and undisciplined sides of a fight and why both are important, John isn’t the only solider in the family so that factor shouldn’t just bond he and Renee. Maybe Roy offers some helpful approaches to Quentin for his job to which Quentin will most likely say “Thanks kid. Who’s are you?”; heck you could have Nyssa come in and explain the history behind Roy’s robes, voice her feelings on Eve continuing the Canary legacy even though her nickname is Artemis, tempt Renee to always be on guard of those around him, and banter with Curtis because I’d just like to see that interaction…this is also a shameless plug to have Nyssa on more because she seriously needs to be on “Arrow” and “Legends Of Tomorrow” more! Of course they’d all still have time with Oliver because again he’s the title character, but bottom line if they want to make these characters feel like more than just punching bags and plot devices then we need to see them fleshing out and doing more and being addressed personally more.
Regarding Havenrock, Felicity, and Roy, I’m honestly wondering if that plot is kind of over…by that I mean we’ve seen Felicity admit it was her and Roy forgive her in a way so now that that’s happened is it even going to be touched on beyond an occasional moment here and there in which Felicity or Roy brings it up for all of 30 seconds before the other comforts them over it?
I can understand how for some it seems like the Havenrock plot this season has so far been more about comforting Roy than Felicity dealing with events which clearly shook her last season, but I think they’ve done okay with balancing it so far. Again we saw Roy understandably angry and Felicity saying her peace about what happened so each has had a moment on it. If something happens that causes Felicity to freeze up during a mission because she’s thinking about Havenrock I’d love see Lyla coming in to talk to her about how to work through those moments and focus as a leader because again John and Oliver aren’t the only ones who have fought and had things happen, it would also add history to the Lyla character and enhance her, under their command and Felicity is a team leader – just because she’s behind a screen giving commands doesn’t mean those commands are any less important than the ones Oliver is giving, if anything they’re arguably more important since Felicity can see more of the battlefield, so one leader to another it’d be nice to have a moment between them. Again let the characters mingle; Felicity hasn’t talked to John yet that we know of – what would they say to one another currently?
Now that she’s had a nice starting batch of episodes to check out I’m finally going to put in my comments, for whatever they’re worth, regarding Cammie as the new third host…I’m fine with her joining the hosting squad. She’s more than held her own with you boys and brought some interesting insights to the discussion; I look forward to hearing more. This does make me wonder about the opening though and will it change to reflex the new addition? It would be sad to see Miss Ice’s part come out but you could always keep it and just add in something for Cammie. Again you two are the bosses but as a listener I’m good with more Cammie.
I had commented before last week’s episode that I was really hoping we’d finally get Felicity’s POV after the boyfriend was revealed, but now I’m more discouraged than ever. We know nothing about how they met, why she moved on so fast (not that she’s not allowed to), etc. If anything, it feels like his sole purpose is to allow Oliver to date again. If the audience hates it, the writers can just go “well, she moved on first!”
The lack of Felicity’s POV was super discouraging, coupled with Marc Guggenheim’s tweet mocking shippers, and Stephen Amell’a interview talking about the return of Playboy Oliver and saying that he intended the Oliver/Felicity scenes in Human Target to play like he was hurt because they’re teammates, not because of lingering feelings. I bet Olicity will eventually reunite, but it’s not going to mean much if I don’t understand and/or like the characters by then. It sucks because the show has improved so much in nearly every other area.
