Season three is okay, but I have to say I liked season two more myself. I’m okay with the push for “Agent Carter”, it’s not like it’s a month(s) push.
I loved the discussion about the trope; I agree. I really hope they don’t do that to Felicity on “Arrow”; you can have her causing Oliver pain without killing her – him having to face her every day after the truth comes out would be more fitting than her dying. If they can’t think of anything else to do with her currently just send her out of town. Rosalind could have been sent out of town or folded into S.H.I.E.L.D. without having to hire Constance full time; let her go work on the Secret Warriors project while Daisy is still with S.H.I.E.L.D..
I definitely believe Ward wants nothing to do with Malick’s plans. I would be sad to see Ward go because I like him as a bad guy, but I can understand the arguments towards it; maybe they’ll have him for one more season and then take him out. I’d miss Brett’s chemistry with the group. I was okay with how they did the Jemma torture scene.
I agree with you on all points, Aaron (except for season 2’s superiority). Rosalind could easily have been removed from the board without killing her. Like maybe making Coulson (and the audience) think she was dead for awhile but bringing her back later.

I have to say I felt Rosalind would be shot when she said she planned to go back in, but I thought it would be at the ATCU or somewhere not her apartment; I actually would have been more forgiving of her death if that happened because it was her choice and something that occurred outside of Coulson you know? I’d still understand arguments for her not having to die at all, but it wouldn’t have seemed as tropey because it was her decision; killing her in this episode feels like a trope because it was more for causing a change in Coulson than anything. Had they had Ward make a comment about taking out spies even that would have made the scene better because she’s again dying for more than just manpain as some say; true Ward would have to be listening in which isn’t impossible but I could see fouls cried about this as well because when would he have set up the devices? Again they could have had Rosalind live after being shot as well because as another listener suggested, I can’t remember who said it currently – sorry for blanking original idealist, maybe she was changed by the fish oil somehow because I can totally see them testing it on their people secretly.
Another way for Rosalind to exit, have Bobbi and Hunter take her with them in a sense; they’re suppose to be getting their own spin-off so she could be their Coulson or just say “I know some people who might have a job/need help.” to them with a smile and set up their first mission. If they didn’t want to hire Constance for that show or if she didn’t want to do it full time they could have Bobbi or Hunter in one of the first few episodes comment that Coulson called Rosalind back to help with the Secret Warriors or to head work on a cure for those who wanted it, that way she’s around but again they don’t have to show her each week; she could return later or just not at all but at least she’s in the world. As you said, it’s really unfair to Rosalind she has to die just to effect Coulson; again it would be one thing if she died going back into ATCU but to go out this way feels tropey.
Like the Will/Jemma-Inhuman discussion timing really had an effect on this scene. Maybe that’s just me though; how would you have felt if Rosalind died later in the season because Malick or Ward discovered she was working with Coulson? I know ideally you wouldn’t want her to die at all and I can fully understand that, but if she did would her death then been better overall or would it have left you feeling the same as this scene?
I’m definitely going to miss Rosalind’s banter and Constance’s performances.
Rosalind was always going to leave the show Constance Zimmer has commencements to Lifetimes’s UNreal. killing her was at least a dramatic way for her to leave the show.
Okay, well there is that then I suppose. Sometimes outside commitments kill characters (like Roger Cross in Arrow season one).
Thanks for the information Ralph. I figured given her popularity there would come a time when we see Rosalind go while Constance was playing her, however, given recasting is an option they could have still had Constance leave as Rosalind and then Rosalind returns played by another actor. I don’t see why death of the character was a must unless they said this was going to be Constance’s character alone. Even then Rosalind is a recurring character so they could have worked with Constance regarding scheduling.
As I said it’s one thing if Rosalind died for more reasons than just to cause Phil pain, but because that seemed like the only reason at the time I disliked the death. I’m just not convinced the character had to die; yes it’s a dramatic exit but was it really necessary for the character? Couldn’t she have had just as dramatic an exit being a part of the big battle and leaving afterwards with maybe Bobbi and Hunter for their spin-off? Dramatic is a pretty broad word. It’s not like Ward who’s not going to be welcomed back on the team and who’s pretty happy as a bad guy to where death is one of his two exit options; even still he could be locked up and that be the end of his character, because I don’t think he’d just walk away.
Again I can understand her dying as an exit, but I’m not sure why, beyond her being created specifically for Constance and she was done, she had to you know? I hope I’m making sense. And I still dislike them killing her simply to cause Phil pain. If she died because they found out she was spying for Coulson or she sacrificed herself to save another person that would have been thing, but just to provoke Coulson no.
