Other Voices, Other Rooms Look Back
In the third episode of 11.22.63 entitled “Other Voices, Other Rooms”, Bill Turcotte decides he is going to travel with our man from the future to Dallas, Texas. Bill gets to see first hand how the choices Jake is making is beginning to creep up on him. After a chat about how the assassination may or may not go down in front of the book depository, our two future changing compadres land in the town of Jodie, Texas.
Jodie sees Jake landing a teaching gig for 2 school years as he bides his time til Lee Harvey Oswald returns to the US from Russia. (Just what was Bill doing this whole time anyway?) After a real cool time transition from 1960-1962, Jake finds himself to one Sadie Clayton, now Sadie Dunhill who stresses that she has no husband. Sadie and Jake chaperone a school dance where they show off their moves which sparks a love interest for Jake, only further complicating is mission.
As Jake and Bill spy on Oswald with some very sophisticated audio equipment thanks to Japan, we begin to see Jake Epping realize the toll this change will take on his life as he deals with civil rights issues and may even begin to wonder if Lee Harvey Oswald isn’t so wrong in some of his claims. This culminates at a rally for General Walker where Lee shows his true colors and just how against “This America” he is.

The opening Credits from week to week appear to be affected by Jake’s presence in the past, and as predicted the clock is moving ahead 5 minutes per episode ever closer to that fateful hour of 12:30 PM on 11.22.63. But this week the only noticeable change was again the record on the record player which now has the song “Water and Wool”
We also really loved the passage of time in the scene where Jake walks down the hallway like he owns the school smiling at the students all the while the dance banners change to reflect the passage of time. Notice the Jake does indeed change clothes in each time period, ok maybe just his tie. NEAT STUFF!
We also know that this episodes title “Other Voices, Other Rooms” was an homage to the novel of the same name written by Truman Capote, sharing themes of feeling like a fish out of water resembling Lee Harvey Oswald, and also the theme of being alienated and alone much like Jake Epping himself.
